2 Samuel 10
1 Après cela, le roi des fils d’Ammon mourut, et Hanon, son fils, régna à sa place.
Forsothe it was doon aftir these thingis, that Naas, kyng of the sones of Amon, diede; and Anoon, his sone, regnede for hym. And Dauid seide,
2 David dit: « Je montrerai de la bienveillance à Hanon, fils de Naas, comme son père m’a montré de la bienveillance. » Et David l’envoya consoler au sujet de son père, par l’intermédiaire de ses serviteurs. Lorsque les serviteurs de David furent arrivés dans le pays des fils d’Ammon,
Y schal do mercy with Anon, the sone of Naas, as his fadir dide mercy with me. Therfor Dauid sente coumfortynge hym by hise seruauntis on the deeth of the fadir. Sotheli whanne the seruauntis of Dauid hadden come in to the lond of the sones of Amon,
3 les princes des fils d’Ammon dirent à Hanon, leur maître: « Penses-tu que ce soit pour honorer ton père que David t’envoie des consolateurs? N’est-ce pas pour reconnaître et explorer la ville, afin de la détruire, que David a envoyé ses serviteurs vers toi? »
princes of the sones of Amon seiden to Anon, her lord, Gessist thou that for the onour of thi fadir Dauid sente coumfortouris to thee; and not herfor Dauid sente hise seruauntis to thee, that he schulde aspie, and enserche the citee, and distrie it?
4 Alors Hanon, ayant saisi les serviteurs de David, leur rasa la moitié de la barbe et coupa leurs habits à mi-hauteur, jusqu’aux fesses, et il les renvoya.
Therfor Anoon took the seruauntis of Dauid, and schauyde half the part of `the beerd of hem, and he kittide awey the myddil clothis of hem `til to the buttokis; and lefte hem.
5 On informa David, et il envoya des gens à leur rencontre, car ces hommes étaient dans une grande confusion; et le roi leur fit dire: « Restez à Jéricho jusqu’à ce que votre barbe ait repoussé, et vous reviendrez ensuite. »
And whanne this was teld to Dauid, he sente in to the comyng of hem, for the men weren schent ful vilensly. And Dauid comaundide to hem, Dwelle ye in Jerico, til youre beerd wexe, and thanne turne ye ayen.
6 Les fils d’Ammon virent qu’ils s’étaient rendus odieux à David; et les fils d’Ammon envoyèrent prendre à leur solde les Syriens de Beth-Rohob et les Syriens de Soba, soit vingt mille hommes de pied, puis le roi de Maacha, soit mille hommes, et les gens de Tob, soit douze mille hommes.
Sotheli the sones of Amon sien, that thei hadden do wrong to Dauid, and thei senten, and hiriden bi meede Roob of Sirye, and Soba of Sirie, twenti thousynde of foot men, and of kyng Maacha, a thousynde men, and of Istob twelue thousynde of men.
7 David l’apprit et il fit partir contre eux Joab et toute l’armée, les hommes vaillants.
And whanne Dauid hadde herd this, he sent Joab and al the oost of fiyteris.
8 Les fils d’Ammon sortirent et se rangèrent en bataille à l’entrée de la porte; les Syriens de Soba et de Rohob, ainsi que les hommes de Tob et de Maacha, étaient à part dans la campagne.
Therfor the sones of Amon yeden out, and dressiden scheltrun bifor hem in the entryng of the yate. Forsothe Soba, and Roob of Sirie, and Istob, and Maacha weren asidis half in the feeld.
9 Lorsque Joab vit qu’il y avait un front de bataille devant et derrière lui, il choisit parmi toute l’élite d’Israël un corps qu’il rangea en face des Syriens;
Therfor Joab siy, that batel was maad redi ayens hym, bothe euene ayens and bihynde the bak; and he chees to hym silf of alle the chosun men of Israel, and ordeynede scheltrun ayens Sirus.
10 et il mit le reste du peuple sous le commandement de son frère Abisaï, qui les rangea en face des fils d’Ammon.
Forsothe he bitook to Abisai, his brothir, the tother part of the puple, which dresside scheltrun ayens the sones of Amon.
11 Il dit: « Si les Syriens sont plus forts que moi, tu viendras à mon secours; et si les fils d’Ammon sont plus forts que toi, j’irai te secourir.
And Joab seide, If men of Sirie han the maistrie ayens me, thou schalt be to me in to help; sotheli if the sones of Amon han the maistrie ayens thee, Y schal helpe thee;
12 Sois ferme et combattons vaillamment pour notre peuple et pour les villes de notre Dieu, et que Yahweh fasse ce qui semblera bon à ses yeux! »
be thou a strong man, and fiyte we for oure puple, and for the citee of oure God; forsothe the Lord schal do that, that is good in his siyt.
13 Joab s’avança donc, ainsi que le peuple qui était avec lui, pour attaquer les Syriens, et ceux-ci s’enfuirent devant lui.
Therfor Joab and his puple that was with hym, bigan batel ayens men of Sirie, whiche fledden anoon fro his face.
14 Les fils d’Ammon, voyant que les Syriens avaient pris la fuite, s’enfuirent aussi devant Abisaï, et rentrèrent dans la ville. Et Joab s’en retourna de la guerre contre les fils d’Ammon et rentra dans Jérusalem.
Forsothe the sones of Amon sien, that men of Sirie hadden fled; and thei fledden also fro the face of Abisai, and entriden in to the citee; and Joab turnede ayen fro the sones of Amon, and cam in to Jerusalem.
15 Les Syriens, voyant qu’ils avaient été battus devant Israël, se réunirent ensemble.
Forsothe men of Sirye sien that thei hadden feld bifor Israel, and thei weren gaderid to gidere.
16 Hadadézer envoya des messagers pour faire venir les Syriens qui étaient de l’autre côté du fleuve, et ils vinrent à Hélam, et Sobach, chef de l’armée d’Hadadézer, marchait devant eux.
And Adadezer sente, and ledde out men of Sirie that weren biyende the flood, and he brouyte the oost of hem; sotheli Sobach, mayster of the chyualrie of Adadezer, was the prince of hem.
17 David en reçut la nouvelle et, ayant assemblé tout Israël, il passa le Jourdain et vint à Hélam. Les Syriens se rangèrent en bataille contre David, et engagèrent le combat contre lui.
And whanne this was teld to Dauid, he drow togidere al Israel, and passide Jordan, and cam in to Helama. And men of Sirie dressiden scheltrun ayens Dauid, and fouyten ayens hym.
18 Mais les Syriens s’enfuirent devant Israël, et David tua aux Syriens les chevaux de sept cents chars et quarante mille cavaliers; il frappa aussi le chef de leur armée, Sobach, qui mourut là.
And Sireis fledden fro the face of Israel; and Dauid killide of Sireis seuene hundrid charis, and fourti thousynde of knyytis; and he smoot Sobach, the prince of chyualrie, which was deed anoon.
19 Tous les rois vassaux de Hadadézer, se voyant battus devant Israël, firent la paix avec Israël et lui furent assujettis; et les Syriens craignirent de porter encore secours aux fils d’Ammon.
Forsothe alle kyngis, that weren in the help of Adadezer, siyen that thei weren ouercomun of Israel, and thei maden pees with Israel, and serueden hem; and Sireis dredden to yyue help to the sones of Amon.
