1 Lorsque Yahweh fit monter Elie au ciel dans un tourbillon, Elie s'en allait de Galgala avec Elisée.
And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2 Elie dit à Elisée: « Reste ici, je te prie, car Yahweh m'envoie jusqu'à Béthel. » Elisée répondit: « Yahweh est vivant et ton âme est vivante! Je ne te quitterai point! » Et ils descendirent à Béthel.
And Elijah said to Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Beth-el. And Elisha said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Beth-el.
3 Les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Béthel sortirent vers Elisée, et lui dirent: « Sais-tu que Yahweh enlèvera aujourd'hui ton maître de dessus ta tête? » Il répondit: « Je le sais aussi; tenez-vous en paix. »
And the sons of the prophets that [were] at Beth-el came forth to Elisha, and said to him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to-day? And he said, Yes, I know [it]; hold ye your peace.
4 Elie lui dit: « Elisée, reste ici, je te prie, car Yahweh m'envoie à Jéricho. » Il répondit: « Yahweh est vivant et ton âme est vivante! Je ne te quitterai point! » Et ils arrivèrent à Jéricho.
And Elijah said to him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 Les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho s'approchèrent d'Elisée et lui dirent: « Sais-tu que Yahweh enlèvera aujourd'hui ton maître de dessus ta tête? » Il répondit: « Je le sais aussi; tenez-vous en paix. »
And the sons of the prophets that [were] at Jericho came to Elisha, and said to him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to-day? And he answered, Yes, I know [it]; hold ye your peace.
6 Elie lui dit: « Reste ici, je te prie, car Yahweh m'envoie au Jourdain. » Il répondit: « Yahweh est vivant et ton âme est vivante! Je ne te quitterai point! » Et ils s'en allèrent tous deux.
And Elijah said to him, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, [As] the LORD liveth, and [as] thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
7 Cinquante hommes d'entre les fils des prophètes allèrent après eux et se tinrent à distance, à l'opposé, et eux deux s'arrêtèrent au bord du Jourdain.
And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
8 Alors Elie, prenant son manteau, le roula et en frappa les eaux, qui se partagèrent d'un côté et de l'autre, et ils passèrent tous deux à sec.
And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped [it] together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
9 Lorsqu'ils eurent passé, Elie dit à Elisée: « Demande ce que tu veux que je fasse pour toi, avant que je sois enlevé d'avec toi. » Elisée répondit: « Que vienne sur moi une double portion de ton esprit? »
And it came to pass, when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I am taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 Elie dit: « Tu demandes une chose difficile. Si tu me vois pendant que je serai enlevé d'avec toi, il t'arrivera ainsi; sinon, cela n'arrivera pas. »
And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: [nevertheless], if thou shalt see me [when I am] taken from thee, it shall be so to thee; but if not, it shall not be [so].
11 Ils continuaient de marcher en s'entretenant, et voici qu'un char de feu et des chevaux de feu les séparèrent l'un de l'autre, et Elie monta au ciel dans un tourbillon.
And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, [there appeared] a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 Elisée regardait et criait: « Mon père! mon père! Char d'Israël et ses cavaliers! » Et il ne le vit plus. Il saisit alors ses vêtements et les déchira en deux morceaux,
And Elisha saw [it], and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 et il releva le manteau d'Elie qui était tombé de dessus lui. Puis, étant revenu au Jourdain, il s'arrêta sur le bord;
He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 et, prenant le manteau d'Elie qui était tombé de dessus lui, il en frappa les eaux et dit: « Où est Yahweh, le Dieu d'Elie? Où est-il? » Lorsqu'il eut frappé les eaux, elles se partagèrent d'un côté et de l'autre, et Elisée passa.
And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where [is] the LORD God of Elijah? And when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 Les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho, à l'opposé, le virent et dirent: « L'esprit d'Elie repose sur Elisée; » et, allant à sa rencontre, ils se prosternèrent contre terre devant lui.
And when the sons of the prophets who [were] to view at Jericho, saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
16 Ils lui dirent: « Voici qu'il y a parmi tes serviteurs cinquante hommes vaillants: qu'ils aillent donc chercher ton maître. Peut-être que l'Esprit de Yahweh, l'ayant emporté, l'a jeté sur une des montagnes ou dans une des vallées. » Il répondit: « Ne les envoyez pas. »
And they said to him, Behold now, there are with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest perhaps the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
17 Mais ils le pressèrent jusqu'à le couvrir de confusion, et il leur dit: « Envoyez-les. » Ils envoyèrent cinquante hommes, qui cherchèrent Elie pendant trois jours, sans le trouver.
And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
18 Lorsqu'ils furent de retour auprès d'Elisée, — car il demeurait à Jéricho, — il leur dit: « Ne vous avais-je pas dit: N'allez pas? »
And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho, ) he said to them, Did I not say to you, Go not?
19 Les gens de la ville dirent à Elisée: « Le séjour de la ville est bon, comme le voit mon seigneur; mais les eaux sont mauvaises et le pays est stérile. »
And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city [is] pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water [is] bad, and the ground barren.
20 Il dit: « Apportez-moi une écuelle neuve, et mettez-y du sel. » Et ils la lui apportèrent.
And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought [it] to him.
21 Il alla vers la source des eaux et, y ayant jeté du sel, il dit: « Ainsi dit Yahweh: J'assainis ces eaux; il n'en proviendra plus ni mort, ni stérilité. »
And he went forth to the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren [land].
22 Et les eaux furent assainies jusqu'à ce jour, selon la parole qu'Elisée avait dite.
So the waters were healed to this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke.
23 Il monta de là à Béthel; et comme il montait par la route, des petits garçons sortirent de la ville et se moquèrent de lui; ils lui disaient: « Monte, chauve! monte, chauve! »
And he went up from thence to Beth-el: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, thou bald-head; go up, thou bald-head.
24 Il se retourna pour les regarder, et il les maudit au nom de Yahweh. Et deux ours sortirent de la forêt et déchirèrent quarante-deux de ces enfants.
And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tore forty and two children of them.
25 De là il alla sur la montagne de Carmel, et de là il revint à Samarie.
And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
