1 Samuel 31
1 Les Philistins ayant livré bataille à Israël, les hommes d’Israël prirent la fuite devant les Philistins, et tombèrent blessés à mort sur la montagne de Gerboé.
Forsothe Filisteis fouyten ayens Israel, and the men of Israel fledden bifor the face of Filisteis, and felden slayn in the hil of Gelboe.
2 Les Philistins s’attachèrent à la poursuite de Saül et de ses fils, et les Philistins tuèrent Jonathas, Abinadab, et Melchisua, fils de Saül.
And Filisteis hurliden on Saul, and on hise sones, and smytiden Jonathas, and Amynadab, and Melchisua, sones of Saul.
3 L’effort du combat se porta sur Saül: les archers l’ayant découvert, il eut grandement peur des archers.
And al the weiyte of batel was turned `in to Saul; and men archeris pursueden hym, and he was woundid greetli of the archeris.
4 Alors Saül dit à son écuyer: « Tire ton épée et m’en transperce, de peur que les incirconcis ne viennent me transpercer et m’outrager. » Son écuyer ne le voulut pas faire, car il était saisi de crainte; alors Saül prit son épée et se jeta dessus.
And Saul seide to his squyer, Drawe out thi swerd, and sle me, lest perauenture these vncircumcidid men come, and sle me, and scorne me. And his squyer nolde, for he was aferd bi ful grete drede; therfor Saul took his swerd, and felde theronne.
5 L’écuyer, voyant que Saül était mort, se jeta aussi sur son épée et mourut avec lui.
And whanne his squyer hadde seyn this, `that is, that Saul was deed, also he felde on his swerd and was deed with hym.
6 Ainsi périrent ensemble dans cette journée Saül et ses trois fils, son écuyer et tous ses hommes.
Therfor Saul was deed, and hise thre sones, and his squyer, and alle his men in that dai togidere.
7 Les hommes d’Israël qui étaient de ce côté de la Plaine et ceux qui étaient de ce côté du Jourdain, voyant que les enfants d’Israël s’étaient enfuis, et que Saül et ses fils étaient morts, abandonnèrent leurs villes et prirent aussi la fuite; et les Philistins vinrent et s’y établirent.
Forsothe the sones of Israel, that weren biyendis the valei, and biyendis Jordan, sien that the men of Israel hadden fled, and that Saul was deed, and hise sones, and thei leften her citees and fledden; and Filisteis camen, and dwelliden there.
8 Le lendemain, les Philistins vinrent pour dépouiller les morts, et ils trouvèrent Saül et ses trois fils gisant sur la montagne de Gelboé.
Forsothe in `the tother dai maad, Filisteis camen, that thei schulden dispuyle the slayn men, and thei founden Saul, and hise thre sones, liggynge in the hil of Gelboe; and thei kittiden awei the heed of Saul,
9 Ils lui coupèrent la tête et lui enlevèrent ses armes; puis ils envoyèrent publier cette bonne nouvelle par tout le pays des Philistins, dans les temples de leurs idoles et parmi le peuple.
and dispuyliden hym of armeris; and senten in to the lond of Filisteis bi cumpas, that it schulde be teld in the temple of idols, and in the puplis.
10 Ils déposèrent les armes de Saül dans le temple d’Astarté, et ils attachèrent son cadavre aux murailles de Bethsan.
And thei puttiden hise armeris in the temple of Astoroth; sotheli thei hangiden his bodi in the wal of Bethsan.
11 Les habitants de Jabès en Galaad ayant appris ce que les Philistins avaient fait à Saül,
And whanne the dwellers of Jabes of Galaad hadden herd this, what euer thingis Filisteis hadden do to Saul,
12 tous les vaillants hommes se levèrent et, après avoir marché toute la nuit, ils enlevèrent des murailles de Bethsan le cadavre de Saül et les cadavres de ses fils, puis ils revinrent à Jabès, où ils les brûlèrent.
alle the strongeste men risiden, and yeden in al that nyyt, and token the deed bodi of Saul, and the deed bodies of hise sones fro the wal of Bethsan; and the men of Jabes of Galaad camen, and brenten tho deed bodies bi fier.
13 Ils prirent leurs os et les enterrèrent sous le tamarisque, à Jabès; et ils jeûnèrent sept jours.
And thei token the boonus of hem, and birieden in the wode of Jabes, and fastiden bi seuene daies.
