1 Samuel 30
1 Lorsque David arriva avec ses hommes le troisième jour à Siceleg, les Amalécites avaient fait une invasion dans le Négéb et à Siceleg; ils avaient frappé Siceleg et l'avaient brûlée;
It came about, when David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had made a raid upon the Negev and on Ziklag. They attacked Ziklag, burned it,
2 et ils avaient fait prisonniers les femmes et tous ceux qui s'y trouvaient, petits et grands, sans tuer personne, et ils les avaient emmenés, et s'étaient remis en route.
and captured the women and everyone who was in it, both small and great. They killed no one, but carried them off as they went on their way.
3 Lors donc que David et ses gens arrivèrent à la ville, ils virent qu'elle était brûlée, et que leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs filles avaient été emmenés captifs.
When David and his men came to the city, it was burned, and their wives, their sons, and their daughters were taken captive.
4 Et David et le peuple qui était avec lui élevèrent la voix et pleurèrent jusqu'à ce qu'ils n'eussent plus la force de pleurer.
Then David and the people that were with him raised their voices and wept until they had no more power to weep.
5 Les deux femmes de David avaient été aussi emmenées captives, Achinoam de Jezraël, et Abigaïl de Carmel, femme de Nabal.
David's two wives were taken captive, Ahinoam the Jezreelite woman, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.
6 David fut dans une grande angoisse, car la troupe parlait de le lapider, parce que tout le peuple avait de l'amertume dans l'âme, chacun au sujet de ses fils et de ses filles. Mais David reprit courage en Yahweh, son Dieu.
David was greatly distressed, for the people were talking about stoning him, for all the people were bitter in spirit, each man for his sons and daughters; but David strengthened himself in Yahweh, his God.
7 David dit au prêtre Abiathar, fils d'Achimélech: « Apporte-moi l'éphod. » Abiathar apporta l'éphod à David.
David said to Abiathar son of Ahimelech, the priest, “I beg you, bring the ephod here for me.” Abiathar brought the ephod to David.
8 Et David consulta Yahweh en disant: « Poursuivrai-je cette bande? L'atteindrai-je? » Yahweh lui répondit: « Poursuis, car certainement tu atteindras et tu délivreras. »
David prayed to Yahweh for direction, saying, “If I pursue after this troop, will I overtake them?” Yahweh answered him, “Pursue, for you will certainly overtake them, and you will surely recover everything.”
9 Et David se mit en marche, lui et les six cents hommes qui étaient avec lui. Lorsqu'ils furent arrivés au torrent de Bésor, les traînards s'arrêtèrent.
So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him; they came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.
10 Et David continua la poursuite avec quatre cents hommes; deux cents hommes s'étaient arrêtés, trop fatigués pour passer le torrent de Bésor.
But David kept pursuing, he and four hundred men; for two hundred had stayed behind, who were so weak that they could not go over the brook Besor.
11 Ils trouvèrent dans les champs un Egyptien, qu'ils amenèrent à David. Ils lui donnèrent du pain qu'il mangea, et ils lui firent boire de l'eau;
They found an Egyptian in a field and brought him to David; they gave him bread, and he ate; they gave him water to drink;
12 ils lui donnèrent une tranche d'un gâteau de figues sèches et deux gâteaux de raisins secs. Dès qu'il eut pris de la nourriture, ses esprits lui revinrent, car il n'avait mangé de nourriture ni bu d'eau depuis trois jours et trois nuits.
and they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. When he had eaten, he gained strength again, for he had eaten no bread nor drunk any water for three days and three nights.
13 David lui dit: « A qui es-tu et d'où es-tu? » Il répondit: « Je suis un esclave égyptien, au service d'un Amalécite, et voilà trois jours que mon maître m'a abandonné, parce que j'étais malade.
David said to him, “To whom do you belong? Where do you come from?” He said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite; my master left me because three days ago I fell sick.
14 Nous avons fait une incursion dans le Négéb des Céréthiens, et sur le territoire de Juda, et dans le Négéb de Caleb, et nous avons brûlé Siceleg. »
We made a raid on the Negev of the Kerethites, and what belongs to Judah, and the Negev of Caleb, and we burned Ziklag.”
15 David lui dit: « Veux-tu me conduire vers cette bande? » Il répondit: « Jure-moi par le nom de Dieu que tu ne me tueras pas et que tu ne me livreras pas aux mains de mon maître, et je te conduirai vers cette bande. »
David said to him, “Will you bring me down to this raiding party?” The Egyptian said, “Swear to me by God that you will not kill me or betray me up into the hands of my master, and I will bring you down to this raiding party.”
16 Lorsqu'il l'eut conduit, voici que les Amalécites étaient répandus sur toute la contrée, mangeant, buvant et dansant, à cause de tout le grand butin qu'ils avaient enlevé du pays des Philistins et du pays de Juda.
When the Egyptian had brought David down, the raiders were spread out over all the ground, eating and drinking and dancing because of all the booty they had taken out of the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.
17 David les battit depuis le crépuscule du soir jusqu'au soir du lendemain, et aucun d'eux n'échappa, excepté quatre cents jeunes hommes, qui s'enfuirent, montés sur des chameaux.
David attacked them from the twilight to the evening of the next day. Not a man escaped except for four hundred young men, who rode on camels and fled.
18 David sauva tout ce que les Amalécites avaient pris, et David sauva ses deux femmes.
David recovered all that the Amalekites had taken; and David rescued his two wives.
19 Il ne leur manqua personne, ni petit ni grand, ni fils ni fille, ni aucune partie du butin, ni rien de ce qu'on leur avait enlevé: David ramena tout.
Nothing was missing, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither booty, nor anything that the raiders had taken for themselves. David brought back everything.
20 Et David prit tout le menu et le gros bétail, et ils se mirent en marche devant ce troupeau, en disant: « C'est le butin de David. »
David took all the flocks and the herds, which the men drove ahead of the other cattle. They said, “This is David's booty.”
21 David revint vers les deux cents hommes qui avaient été trop fatigués pour suivre David, et qu'on avait laissés au torrent de Bésor; ils s'avancèrent au-devant de David et au-devant du peuple qui était avec lui. S'approchant d'eux, David les salua amicalement.
David came to the two hundred men who had been too weak to follow him, the ones the others had made to stay at the brook Besor. These men went ahead to meet David and the people who were with him. When David came to these people, he greeted them.
22 Tout ce qu'il y avait d'hommes méchants et vils parmi les gens qui étaient allés avec David prirent la parole et dirent: « Puisqu'ils ne sont pas venus avec nous, nous ne leur donnerons rien du butin que nous avons sauvé, sinon à chacun sa femme et ses enfants; qu'ils les emmènent et s'en aillent. »
Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows among those who had gone with David said, “Because these men did not go with us, we will not give them any of the booty that we have recovered. Except that each man may take his wife and children, lead them away, and go.”
23 Mais David dit: « N'agissez pas ainsi, mes frères, avec ce que Yahweh nous a donné; car il nous a gardés, et il a livré entre nos mains la bande qui était venue contre nous.
Then David said, “You must not act like this, my brothers, with what Yahweh has given to us. He has preserved us and given into our hand the raiders who came against us.
24 Et qui vous écouterait dans cette affaire? La part doit être la même pour celui qui est descendu au combat et pour celui qui est resté près des bagages: ils partageront ensemble. »
Who will listen to you in this matter? For as the share is for anyone who goes into battle, so also will the share be for anyone who waits by the baggage; they will share and share alike.”
25 Il en fut ainsi dès ce jour et dans la suite, et David a fait de cela une loi et une règle qui subsiste jusqu'à ce jour.
It has been so from that day to this day, for David made it a statute and a decree for Israel.
26 De retour à Siceleg, David envoya une partie du butin aux anciens de Juda, ses amis, en disant: « Voici un présent pour vous sur le butin des ennemis de Yahweh. »
When David came to Ziklag, he sent some of the booty to the elders of Judah, to his friends, saying, “See, here is a present for you from the booty from Yahweh's enemies.”
27 Il fit ces envois à ceux de Béthel, à ceux de Ramoth du Négéb, à ceux de Jéther,
He also sent some to the elders who were in Bethel, and to those who were in Ramoth of the South, and to those who were in Jattir,
28 à ceux d'Aroër, à ceux de Séphamoth, à ceux d'Estamo,
and to those who were in Aroer, and to those who were in Siphmoth, and to those who were in Eshtemoa.
29 à ceux de Rachal, à ceux des villes de Jéraméélites, à ceux des villes des Cinéens,
He also sent some to the elders who were in Rakal, and to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,
30 à ceux d'Arama, à ceux de Cor-Asan, à ceux d'Athach,
and to those who were in Hormah, and to those who were in Bor Ashan, and to those who were in Athak,
31 à ceux d'Hébron et dans tous les lieux où David et ses gens avaient passé.
and to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men habitually went.
