1 Alors le roi Salomon assembla près de lui à Jérusalem les anciens d'Israël et tous les chefs des tribus, les princes des familles des enfants d'Israël, pour transporter de la cité de David, c'est-à-dire de Sion, l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh.
Then Solomon assembled the elders of Israel with all the heads of the tribes, the princes of the fathers’ households of the children of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD’s covenant out of David’s city, which is Zion.
2 Tous les hommes d'Israël se réunirent auprès du roi Salomon, au mois d'éthanim, qui est le septième mois, pendant la fête.
All the men of Israel assembled themselves to King Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.
3 Lorsque tous les anciens d'Israël furent arrivés, les prêtres portèrent l'arche.
All the elders of Israel came, and the priests picked up the ark.
4 Ils transportèrent l'arche de Yahweh, ainsi que la tente de réunion et tous les ustensiles sacrés qui étaient dans la tente; ce furent les prêtres et les lévites qui les transportèrent.
They brought up the LORD’s ark, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent. The priests and the Levites brought these up.
5 Le roi Salomon et toute l'assemblée d'Israël convoquée auprès de lui se tenaient avec lui devant l'arche. Ils immolèrent des brebis et des bœufs, qui ne pouvaient être ni comptés ni nombrés à cause de leur multitude.
King Solomon and all the congregation of Israel, who were assembled to him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and cattle that could not be counted or numbered for multitude.
6 Les prêtres portèrent l'arche de l'alliance de Yahweh à sa place, dans le sanctuaire de la maison, dans le Saint des saints, sous les ailes des Chérubins.
The priests brought in the ark of the LORD’s covenant to its place, into the inner sanctuary of the house, to the most holy place, even under the cherubim’s wings.
7 Car les Chérubins étendaient leurs ailes sur la place de l'arche, et les Chérubins couvraient l'arche et ses barres par-dessus.
For the cherubim spread their wings out over the place of the ark, and the cherubim covered the ark and its poles above.
8 Les barres avaient une longueur telle que leurs extrémités se voyaient du lieu saint devant le sanctuaire, mais on ne les voyait point du dehors. Elles ont été là jusqu'à ce jour.
The poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place before the inner sanctuary, but they were not seen outside. They are there to this day.
9 Il n'y avait dans l'arche que les deux tables de pierre, que Moïse y avait déposées sur le mont Horeb, lorsque Yahweh conclut une alliance avec les enfants d'Israël à leur sortie du pays d'Egypte.
There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt.
10 Au moment où les prêtres sortirent du lieu saint, la nuée remplit la maison de Yahweh.
It came to pass, when the priests had come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the LORD’s house,
11 Les prêtres ne purent pas y rester pour faire leur service, à cause de la nuée; car la gloire de Yahweh remplissait la maison de Yahweh.
so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the LORD’s glory filled the LORD’s house.
12 Alors Salomon dit: « Yahweh veut habiter dans l'obscurité.
Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
13 J'ai bâti une maison qui sera votre demeure, un lieu pour que vous y résidiez à jamais. »
I have surely built you a house of habitation, a place for you to dwell in forever.”
14 Puis le roi tourna son visage et bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et toute l'assemblée d'Israël était debout.
The king turned his face around and blessed all the assembly of Israel; and all the assembly of Israel stood.
15 Et il dit: « Béni soit Yahweh. Dieu d'Israël, qui a parlé par sa bouche à David, mon père, et qui a accompli par sa main ce qu'il avait déclaré en disant:
He said, “Blessed is the LORD, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David your father, and has with his hand fulfilled it, saying,
16 Depuis le jour où j'ai fait sortir d'Egypte mon peuple d'Israël, je n'ai point choisi de ville, parmi toutes les tribus d'Israël, pour qu'on y bâtisse une maison où réside mon nom, mais j'ai choisi David pour qu'il règne sur mon peuple d'Israël.
‘Since the day that I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house, that my name might be there; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.’
17 David, mon père, avait l'intention de bâtir une maison au nom de Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël;
“Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
18 mais Yahweh dit à David, mon père: Puisque tu as eu l'intention de bâtir une maison à mon nom, tu as bien fait d'avoir eu cette intention.
But the LORD said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart.
19 Seulement, ce ne sera pas toi qui bâtiras la maison; ce sera ton fils, sorti de tes entrailles, qui bâtira la maison à mon nom.
Nevertheless, you shall not build the house; but your son who shall come out of your body, he shall build the house for my name.’
20 Yahweh a accompli la parole qu'il avait prononcée: je me suis élevé à la place de David, mon père, et je me suis assis sur le trône d'Israël, comme Yahweh l'avait dit, et j'ai bâti la maison au nom de Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël.
The LORD has established his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
21 J'y ai établi un lieu pour l'arche où se trouve l'alliance de Yahweh, alliance qu'il a conclue avec nos pères quand il les a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte. »
There I have set a place for the ark, in which is the LORD’s covenant, which he made with our fathers when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.”
22 Salomon se plaça devant l'autel de Yahweh, en face de toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et, étendant ses mains vers le ciel,
Solomon stood before the LORD’s altar in the presence of all the assembly of Israel, and spread out his hands towards heaven;
23 il dit: « Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, il n'y a point de Dieu semblable à vous, ni en haut dans les cieux, ni en bas sur la terre: à vous, qui gardez l'alliance et la miséricorde envers vos serviteurs qui marchent de tout leur cœur en votre présence;
and he said, “LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; who keeps covenant and loving kindness with your servants who walk before you with all their heart;
24 comme vous avez gardé à votre serviteur David, mon père, ce que vous lui avez dit; ce que vous avez déclaré par votre bouche, vous l'avez accompli par votre main, comme on le voit en ce jour.
who has kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him. Yes, you spoke with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is today.
25 Maintenant, Yahweh, Dieu d'Israël, observez en faveur de votre serviteur David, mon père, ce que vous lui avez dit en ces termes: “Il ne te manquera jamais devant moi un descendant qui siège sur le trône d'Israël, pourvu que tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, en marchant devant moi comme tu as marché devant moi.”
Now therefore, may LORD, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail from you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk before me as you have walked before me.’
26 Et maintenant, Dieu d'Israël, qu'elle s'accomplisse donc la parole que vous avez dite à votre serviteur David, mon père!
“Now therefore, God of Israel, please let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David my father.
27 « Mais est-il vrai que Dieu habite sur la terre? Voici que le ciel et le ciel des cieux ne peuvent vous contenir: combien moins cette maison que j'ai bâtie!
But will God in very deed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house that I have built!
28 Cependant soyez attentif, Yahweh, mon Dieu, à la prière de votre serviteur et à sa supplication, en écoutant le cri joyeux et la prière que votre serviteur prononce devant vous aujourd'hui,
Yet have respect for the prayer of your servant and for his supplication, LORD my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you today;
29 en tenant vos yeux ouverts nuit et jour sur cette maison, sur le lieu dont vous avez dit: Là sera mon nom, en écoutant la prière que votre serviteur fait en ce lieu.
that your eyes may be open towards this house night and day, even towards the place of which you have said, ‘My name shall be there;’ to listen to the prayer which your servant prays towards this place.
30 Ecoutez la supplication de votre serviteur et de votre peuple d'Israël, lorsqu'ils prieront en ce lieu; écoutez du lieu de votre demeure, du ciel, écoutez et pardonnez.
Listen to the supplication of your servant, and of your people Israel, when they pray towards this place. Yes, hear in heaven, your dwelling place; and when you hear, forgive.
31 « Si quelqu'un pèche contre son prochain et qu'on lui fasse prêter un serment, s'il vient jurer devant votre autel, dans cette maison,
“If a man sins against his neighbour, and an oath is laid on him to cause him to swear, and he comes and swears before your altar in this house,
32 écoutez-le du ciel, agissez, et jugez vos serviteurs, condamnant le coupable et faisant retomber sa conduite sur sa tête, déclarant juste l'innocent et lui rendant selon son innocence.
then hear in heaven, and act, and judge your servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way on his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.
33 « Quand votre peuple d'Israël sera battu devant l'ennemi parce qu'il aura péché contre vous, s'ils reviennent à vous et rendent gloire à votre nom, s'ils vous adressent des prières et des supplications dans cette maison,
“When your people Israel are struck down before the enemy because they have sinned against you, if they turn again to you and confess your name, and pray and make supplication to you in this house,
34 écoutez-les du ciel, pardonnez le péché de votre peuple d'Israël, et ramenez-les dans le pays que vous avez donné à leurs pères.
then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bring them again to the land which you gave to their fathers.
35 « Quand le ciel sera fermé et qu'il n'y aura pas de pluie parce qu'ils auront péché contre vous, s'ils prient dans ce lieu et rendent gloire à votre nom, et s'ils se détournent de leurs péchés, parce que vous les aurez affligés,
“When the sky is shut up and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray towards this place and confess your name, and turn from their sin when you afflict them,
36 écoutez-les du ciel, pardonnez les péchés de vos serviteurs et de votre peuple d'Israël, en leur enseignant la bonne voie dans laquelle ils doivent marcher, et faites tomber la pluie sur la terre que vous avez donnée en héritage à votre peuple.
then hear in heaven, and forgive the sin of your servants, and of your people Israel, when you teach them the good way in which they should walk; and send rain on your land which you have given to your people for an inheritance.
37 « Quand la famine sera dans le pays, quand il y aura la peste, quand il y aura la rouille, la nielle, la sauterelle, le hasil; quand l'ennemi assiégera votre peuple dans le pays, dans ses portes; quand il y aura fléau ou maladie quelconques,
“If there is famine in the land, if there is pestilence, if there is blight, mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemy besieges them in the land of their cities, whatever plague, whatever sickness there is,
38 si un homme, si tout votre peuple d'Israël fait entendre des prières et des supplications, et que chacun, reconnaissant la plaie de son cœur, étende ses mains vers cette maison,
whatever prayer and supplication is made by any man, or by all your people Israel, who shall each know the plague of his own heart, and spread out his hands towards this house,
39 écoutez-les du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, et pardonnez; agissez et rendez à chacun selon toutes ses voies, vous qui connaissez son cœur, — car seul vous connaissez les cœurs de tous les enfants des hommes, —
then hear in heaven, your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to every man according to all his ways, whose heart you know (for you, even you only, know the hearts of all the children of men);
40 afin qu'ils vous craignent tous les jours qu'ils vivront sur la face du pays que vous avez donné à nos pères.
that they may fear you all the days that they live in the land which you gave to our fathers.
41 « Quant à l'étranger, qui n'est pas de votre peuple d'Israël, mais qui viendra d'un pays lointain à cause de votre nom,
“Moreover, concerning the foreigner, who is not of your people Israel, when he comes out of a far country for your name’s sake
42 — car on entendra parler de votre grand nom, de votre main forte et de votre bras étendu, — quand il viendra prier dans cette maison,
(for they shall hear of your great name and of your mighty hand and of your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays towards this house,
43 écoutez-le du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, et agissez selon tout ce que vous demandera l'étranger, afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent votre nom, pour vous craindre, comme votre peuple d'Israël, et qu'ils sachent que votre nom est appelé sur cette maison que j'ai bâtie.
hear in heaven, your dwelling place, and do according to all that the foreigner calls to you for; that all the peoples of the earth may know your name, to fear you, as do your people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by your name.
44 « Quand votre peuple sortira pour combattre son ennemi, en suivant la voie dans laquelle vous les aurez envoyés, et qu'ils adresseront des prières à Yahweh, le visage tourné vers la ville que vous avez choisie et vers la maison que j'ai bâtie à votre nom,
“If your people go out to battle against their enemy, by whatever way you shall send them, and they pray to the LORD towards the city which you have chosen, and towards the house which I have built for your name,
45 écoutez du ciel leur prière et leur supplication, et rendez-leur justice.
then hear in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.
46 « Quand ils pécheront contre vous, — car il n'y a pas d'homme qui ne pèche, — et quand, irrité contre eux, vous les livrerez à l'ennemi, et que leur vainqueur les emmènera captifs au pays de l'ennemi, lointain ou rapproché,
If they sin against you (for there is no man who doesn’t sin), and you are angry with them and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive to the land of the enemy, far off or near;
47 s'ils rentrent en eux-mêmes dans le pays de leurs vainqueurs, s'ils se convertissent et vous adressent des supplications dans le pays de leurs tyrans, en disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons fait l'iniquité, nous avons commis le crime;
yet if they repent in the land where they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication to you in the land of those who carried them captive, saying, ‘We have sinned and have done perversely; we have dealt wickedly,’
48 s'ils reviennent à vous de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leurs ennemis qui les ont emmenés captifs, s'ils vous adressent des prières, le visage tourné vers leur pays que vous avez donné à leurs pères, vers la ville que vous avez choisie et vers la maison que j'ai bâtie à votre nom,
if they return to you with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their enemies who carried them captive, and pray to you towards their land which you gave to their fathers, the city which you have chosen and the house which I have built for your name,
49 écoutez, du ciel, du lieu de votre demeure, leur prière et leur supplication, et faites-leur droit;
then hear their prayer and their supplication in heaven, your dwelling place, and maintain their cause;
50 pardonnez à votre peuple ses transgressions et tous ses péchés qu'il a commis contre vous; faites-en un sujet de compassion devant leurs tyrans, afin qu'ils aient pitié d'eux;
and forgive your people who have sinned against you, and all their transgressions in which they have transgressed against you; and give them compassion before those who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them
51 car ils sont votre peuple et votre héritage, que vous avez fait sortir d'Egypte, du milieu d'une fournaise de fer:
(for they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out of Egypt, from the middle of the iron furnace);
52 afin que vos yeux soient ouverts à la supplication de votre serviteur et à la supplication de votre peuple d'Israël, pour les écouter en tout ce qu'ils vous demanderont.
that your eyes may be open to the supplication of your servant and to the supplication of your people Israel, to listen to them whenever they cry to you.
53 Car vous les avez séparés de tous les peuples de la terre pour vous, pour en faire votre héritage, comme vous l'avez déclaré par Moïse, votre serviteur, quand vous avez fait sortir nos pères d'Egypte, ô Seigneur Yahweh. »
For you separated them from amongst all the peoples of the earth to be your inheritance, as you spoke by Moses your servant, when you brought our fathers out of Egypt, Lord GOD.”
54 Lorsque Salomon eut achevé d'adresser à Yahweh toute cette prière et cette supplication, il se leva de devant l'autel de Yahweh, où il était à genoux, les mains étendues vers le ciel.
It was so, that when Solomon had finished praying all this prayer and supplication to the LORD, he arose from before the LORD’s altar, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread out towards heaven.
55 S'étant levé, il bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël à haute voix en disant:
He stood and blessed all the assembly of Israel with a loud voice, saying,
56 « Béni soit Yahweh qui a donné du repos à son peuple d'Israël, selon tout ce qu'il a dit! De toutes les bonnes paroles qu'il a fait entendre par l'organe de Moïse, son serviteur, aucune parole n'est restée sans effet.
“Blessed be the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel, according to all that he promised. There has not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by Moses his servant.
57 Que Yahweh, notre Dieu, soit avec nous, comme il a été avec nos pères; qu'il ne nous abandonne point et ne nous délaisse point,
May the LORD our God be with us as he was with our fathers. Let him not leave us or forsake us,
58 mais qu'il incline nos cœurs vers lui, afin que nous marchions dans toutes ses voies, et que nous observions ses commandements, ses lois et ses ordonnances, qu'il a prescrits à nos pères.
that he may incline our hearts to him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, which he commanded our fathers.
59 Que mes paroles de supplication que j'ai prononcées devant Yahweh soient proches de Yahweh, notre Dieu, nuit et jour, pour que, selon le besoin de chaque jour, il fasse droit à son serviteur et à son peuple d'Israël,
Let these my words, with which I have made supplication before the LORD, be near to the LORD our God day and night, that he may maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as every day requires;
60 afin que tous les peuples de la terre sachent que Yahweh est Dieu, qu'il n'y en a point d'autre.
that all the peoples of the earth may know that the LORD himself is God. There is no one else.
61 Que votre cœur soit tout à Yahweh, notre Dieu, pour marcher selon ses lois et pour observer ses commandements, comme nous le faisons aujourd'hui. »
“Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as it is today.”
62 Le roi et tout Israël avec lui offrirent des sacrifices devant Yahweh.
The king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD.
63 Salomon immola vingt-deux mille bœufs et cent vingt mille brebis pour le sacrifice pacifique qu'il offrit à Yahweh. C'est ainsi que le roi et tous les enfants d'Israël firent la dédicace de la maison de Yahweh.
Solomon offered for the sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered to the LORD, twenty two thousand head of cattle and one hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the LORD’s house.
64 En ce jour, le roi consacra le milieu du parvis qui est devant la maison de Yahweh; car il offrit là les holocaustes, les oblations et les graisses des sacrifices pacifiques, parce que l'autel d'airain qui est devant Yahweh était trop petit pour contenir les holocaustes, les oblations et les graisses des sacrifices pacifiques.
The same day the king made the middle of the court holy that was before the LORD’s house; for there he offered the burnt offering, the meal offering, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the bronze altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offering, the meal offering, and the fat of the peace offerings.
65 Salomon célébra la fête en ce temps-là, et tout Israël avec lui, grande multitude venue depuis l'entrée d'Emath jusqu'au torrent d'Egypte, — devant Yahweh, notre Dieu, — pendant sept jours et sept autres jours, soit quatorze jours.
So Solomon held the feast at that time, and all Israel with him, a great assembly, from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days and seven more days, even fourteen days.
66 Le huitième jour il renvoya le peuple. Et ils bénirent le roi, et s'en allèrent dans leurs demeures, joyeux et le cœur content pour tout le bien que Yahweh avait fait à David, son serviteur, et à Israël, son peuple.
On the eighth day he sent the people away; and they blessed the king, and went to their tents joyful and glad in their hearts for all the goodness that the LORD had shown to David his servant, and to Israel his people.
