Romains 1
1 Paul, serviteur du Christ-Jésus, apôtre par son appel, mis à part pour annoncer l’Evangile de Dieu,
Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, an Apostle by the selection of God, given authority as a preacher of the good news,
2 Evangile que Dieu avait promis auparavant par ses prophètes dans les saintes Ecritures,
Of which God had given word before by his prophets in the holy Writings,
3 touchant son Fils (né de la postérité de David selon la chair,
About his Son who, in the flesh, came from the family of David,
4 et déclaré Fils de Dieu miraculeusement, selon l’Esprit de sainteté, par une résurrection d’entre les morts), Jésus-Christ Notre-Seigneur,
But was marked out as Son of God in power by the Holy Spirit through the coming to life again of the dead; Jesus Christ our Lord,
5 par qui nous avons reçu la grâce et l’apostolat, pour amener en son nom à l’obéissance de la foi tous les Gentils,
Through whom grace has been given to us, sending us out to make disciples to the faith among all nations, for his name:
6 du nombre desquels vous êtes, vous aussi, par appel de Jésus-Christ, —
Among whom you in the same way have been marked out to be disciples of Jesus Christ:
7 à tous les bien-aimés de Dieu, les saints appelés par lui, qui sont à Rome: grâce et paix à vous de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
To all those who are in Rome, loved by God, marked out as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
8 Et d’abord je rends grâce à mon Dieu, par Jésus-Christ, au sujet de vous tous, de ce que votre foi est renommée dans le monde entier.
First of all, I give praise to my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because news of your faith has gone into all the world.
9 Dieu m’en est témoin, ce Dieu que je sers en mon esprit par la prédication de l’Evangile de son Fils, sans cesse je fais mémoire de vous,
For God is my witness, whose servant I am in spirit in the good news of his Son, that you are at all times in my memory and in my prayers,
10 demandant continuellement dans mes prières d’avoir enfin, par sa volonté, quelque heureuse occasion de me rendre auprès de vous.
And that I am ever making prayers that God will give me a good journey to you.
11 Car j’ai un grand désir de vous voir, pour vous communiquer quelque don spirituel, capable de vous affermir,
For I have a strong desire to see you, and to give you some grace of the spirit, so that you may be made strong;
12 je veux dire, de nous encourager ensemble au milieu de vous par la foi qui nous est commune, à vous et à moi.
That is to say, that all of us may be comforted together by the faith which is in you and in me.
13 Je ne veux pas vous laisser ignorer, frères, que je me suis souvent proposé d’aller vous voir, — mais j’en ai été empêché jusqu’ici, — afin de recueillir aussi quelques fruits parmi vous, comme parmi les autres nations.
You may be certain, my brothers, that it has frequently been in my mind to come to you (but till now I was kept from it), so that I might have some fruit from you in the same way as I have had it from the other nations.
14 Je me dois aux Grecs et aux Barbares, aux savants et aux ignorants.
I have a debt to Greeks and to the nations outside; to the wise and to those who have no learning.
15 Ainsi, autant qu’il est en moi, je suis prêt à vous annoncer aussi l’Evangile, à vous qui êtes à Rome.
For which reason I have the desire, as far as I am able, to give the knowledge of the good news to you who are in Rome.
16 Car je n’ai pas honte de l’Evangile; c’est une force divine pour le salut de tout homme qui croit, premièrement du Juif, puis du Grec.
For I have no feeling of shame about the good news, because it is the power of God giving salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first, and then to the Greek.
17 En effet, en lui est révélée une justice de Dieu qui vient de la foi et est destinée à la foi, selon qu’il est écrit: « Le juste vivra par la foi. »
For in it there is the revelation of the righteousness of God from faith to faith: as it is said in the holy Writings, The man who does righteousness will be living by his faith.
18 En effet, la colère de Dieu éclate du haut du ciel contre toute impiété et toute injustice des hommes, qui, par leur injustice, retiennent la vérité captive;
For there is a revelation of the wrath of God from heaven against all the wrongdoing and evil thoughts of men who keep down what is true by wrongdoing;
19 car ce qui se peut connaître de Dieu, est manifeste parmi eux: Dieu le leur a manifesté.
Because the knowledge of God may be seen in them, God having made it clear to them.
20 En effet ses perfections invisibles, son éternelle puissance et sa divinité sont, depuis la création du monde, rendues visibles à l’intelligence par le moyen de ses œuvres. Ils sont donc inexcusables, (aïdios g126)
For from the first making of the world, those things of God which the eye is unable to see, that is, his eternal power and existence, are fully made clear, he having given the knowledge of them through the things which he has made, so that men have no reason for wrongdoing: (aïdios g126)
21 puisque, ayant connu Dieu, ils ne l’ont pas glorifié comme Dieu et ne lui ont pas rendu grâces; mais ils sont devenus vains dans leurs pensées, et leur cœur sans intelligence s’est enveloppé de ténèbres.
Because, having the knowledge of God, they did not give glory to God as God, and did not give praise, but their minds were full of foolish things, and their hearts, being without sense, were made dark.
22 Se vantant d’être sages, ils sont devenus fous;
Seeming to be wise, they were in fact foolish,
23 et ils ont échangé la majesté du Dieu incorruptible pour des images représentant l’homme corruptible, des oiseaux, des quadrupèdes et des reptiles.
And by them the glory of the eternal God was changed and made into the image of man who is not eternal, and of birds and beasts and things which go on the earth.
24 Aussi Dieu les a-t-il livrés, au milieu des convoitises de leurs cœurs, à l’impureté, en sorte qu’ils déshonorent entre eux leurs propres corps,
For this reason God gave them up to the evil desires of their hearts, working shame in their bodies with one another:
25 eux qui ont échangé le Dieu véritable pour le mensonge, et qui ont adoré et servi la créature de préférence au Créateur, (lequel est béni éternellement. Amen!) (aiōn g165)
Because by them the true word of God was changed into that which is false, and they gave worship and honour to the thing which is made, and not to him who made it, to whom be blessing for ever. So be it. (aiōn g165)
26 C’est pourquoi Dieu les a livrés à des passions d’ignominie: leurs femmes ont changé l’usage naturel en celui qui est contre nature;
For this reason God gave them up to evil passions, and their women were changing the natural use into one which is unnatural:
27 de même aussi les hommes, au lieu d’user de la femme selon l’ordre de la nature, ont, dans leurs désirs, brûlé les uns pour les autres, ayant hommes avec hommes un commerce infâme, et recevant, dans une mutuelle dégradation, le juste salaire de leur égarement.
And in the same way the men gave up the natural use of the woman and were burning in their desire for one another, men doing shame with men, and getting in their bodies the right reward of their evil-doing.
28 Et comme ils ne se sont pas souciés de bien connaître Dieu, Dieu les a livrés à leur sens pervers pour faire ce qui ne convient pas,
And because they had not the mind to keep God in their knowledge, God gave them up to an evil mind, to do those things which are not right;
29 étant remplis de toute espèce d’iniquité, de malice, [de fornication], de cupidité, de méchanceté, pleins d’envie, de pensées homicides, de querelle, de fraude, de malignité,
Being full of all wrongdoing, evil, desire for the goods of others, hate, envy, putting to death, fighting, deceit, cruel ways, evil talk, and false statements about others;
30 semeurs de faux bruits, calomniateurs, haïs de Dieu, arrogants, hautains, fanfarons, ingénieux au mal, rebelles à leurs parents,
Hated by God, full of pride, without respect, full of loud talk, given to evil inventions, not honouring father or mother,
31 sans intelligence, sans loyauté, [implacables], sans affection, sans pitié.
Without knowledge, not true to their undertakings, unkind, having no mercy:
32 Et bien qu’ils connaissent le jugement de Dieu déclarant dignes de mort ceux qui commettent de telles choses, non seulement ils les font, mais encore ils approuvent ceux qui les font.
Who, though they have knowledge of the law of God, that the fate of those who do these things is death, not only go on doing these things themselves, but give approval to those who do them.
