Psaumes 94
1 Dieu des vengeances, Yahweh, Dieu des vengeances, parais!
A Psalm of David for the fourth [day] of the week. The Lord is a God of vengeance; the God of vengeance has declared himself.
2 Lève-toi, juge de la terre, rends aux superbes selon leurs œuvres!
Be thou exalted, thou that judgest the earth: render a reward to the proud.
3 Jusques à quand les méchants, Yahweh, jusques à quand les méchants triompheront-ils?
How long shall sinners, O Lord, how long shall sinners boast?
4 Ils se répandent en discours arrogants, ils se glorifient, tous ces artisans d’iniquité.
They will utter and speak unrighteousness; all the workers of iniquity will speak [so].
5 Yahweh, ils écrasent ton peuple, ils oppriment ton héritage,
They have afflicted thy people, O Lord, and hurt thine heritage.
6 ils égorgent la veuve et l’étranger, ils massacrent les orphelins.
They have slain the widow and fatherless, and murdered the stranger.
7 Et ils disent: « Yahweh ne regarde pas, le Dieu de Jacob ne fait pas attention. »
And they said, The Lord shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob understand.
8 Comprenez-donc, stupides enfants du peuple! Insensés, quand aurez-vous l’intelligence?
Understand now, ye simple among the people; and ye fools, at length be wise.
9 Celui qui a planté l’oreille n’entendrait-il pas? Celui qui a formé l’œil ne verrait-il pas?
He that planted the ear, does he not hear? or he that formed the eye, does not he perceive?
10 Celui qui châtie les nations ne punirait-il pas? Celui qui donne à l’homme l’intelligence ne reconnaîtrait-il pas?
He that chastises the heathen, shall not he punish, [even] he that teaches man knowledge?
11 Yahweh connaît les pensées des hommes, il sait qu’elles sont vaines.
The Lord knows the thoughts of men, that they are vain.
12 Heureux l’homme que tu instruis, Yahweh, et à qui tu donnes l’enseignement de ta loi,
Blessed is the man whomsoever thou shalt chasten, O Lord, and shalt teach him out of thy law;
13 pour l’apaiser aux jours du malheur, jusqu’à ce que la fosse soit creusée pour le méchant.
to give him rest from evil days, until a pit be digged for the sinful one.
14 Car Yahweh ne rejettera pas son peuple, il n’abandonnera pas son héritage;
For the Lord will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance;
15 mais le jugement redeviendra conforme à la justice, et tous les hommes au cœur droit y applaudiront.
until righteousness return to judgment, and all the upright in heart shall follow it. (Pause)
16 Qui se lèvera pour moi contre les méchants? Qui me soutiendra contre ceux qui font le mal?
Who will rise up for me against the transgressors? or who will stand up with me against the workers of iniquity?
17 Si Yahweh n’était pas mon secours, mon âme habiterait bientôt le séjour du silence.
If the Lord had not helped me, my soul had almost sojourned in Hades.
18 Quand je dis: « Mon pied chancelle, » ta bonté, Yahweh, me soutient.
If I said, My foot has been moved;
19 Quand les angoisses s’agitent en foule dans ma pensée, tes consolations réjouissent mon âme.
thy mercy, O Lord, helped me. O Lord, according to the multitude of my griefs within my heart, thy consolation have soothed my soul.
20 A-t-il rien de commun avec toi le tribunal de perdition, qui fait le mal dans les formes légales?
Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frames mischief by an ordinance?
21 Ils s’empressent contre la vie du juste, et ils condamnent le sang innocent.
They will hunt for the soul of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood.
22 Mais Yahweh est ma forteresse, mon Dieu est le rocher où je m’abrite.
But the Lord was my refuge; and my God the helper of my hope.
23 Il fera retomber sur eux leur iniquité, il les exterminera par leur propre malice, il les exterminera, Yahweh, notre Dieu!
And he will recompense to them their iniquity and their wickedness: the Lord our God shall utterly destroy them.
