Psaumes 89
1 Cantique d’Ethan l’Ezrahite. Je veux chanter à jamais les bontés de Yahweh; à toutes les générations ma bouche fera connaître ta fidélité.
An Instructive Psalm, by Ethan the Ezrahite. The lovingkindnesses of Yahweh, age-abidingly will I sing, To generation after generation, will I make known thy faithfulness with my mouth.
2 Car je dis: La bonté est un édifice éternel, dans les cieux tu as établi ta fidélité.
For I said, To times age-abiding, shall lovingkindness be built up, As for the heavens, thou wilt establish thy faithfulness therein.
3 « J’ai contracté alliance avec mon élu; j’ai fait ce serment à David, mon serviteur:
I have solemnised a covenant, for my chosen one, I have sworn unto David my servant:
4 je veux affermir ta race pour toujours, établir ton trône pour toutes les générations. » — Séla.
Unto times age-abiding, will I establish thy seed, And will build up, unto generation after generation, thy throne. (Selah)
5 Les cieux célèbrent tes merveilles, Yahweh, et ta fidélité dans l’assemblée des saints.
So shall the heavens praise thy wondrousness, O Yahweh, —Yea, thy faithfulness, in the convocation of holy ones.
6 Car qui pourrait, dans le ciel, se comparer à Yahweh? Qui est semblable à Yahweh parmi les fils de Dieu?
For whom, in the skies, can one compare unto Yahweh? [Or] can one liken unto Yahweh, among the sons of the mighty?
7 Dieu est terrible dans la grande assemblée des saints, il est redoutable pour tous ceux qui l’entourent.
A GOD inspiring awe in the circle of the holy ones, exceedingly, And to be reverenced above all who are round about him.
8 Yahweh, Dieu des armées, qui est comme toi? Tu es puissant, Yahweh, et ta fidélité t’environne.
O Yahweh, God of hosts! Who, like thee, is mighty, O Yah! With thy faithfulness round about thee:
9 C’est toi qui domptes l’orgueil de la mer; quand ses flots se soulèvent, c’est toi qui les apaises.
Thou, rulest over the swelling of the sea, When the rolling waves thereof lift themselves, Thou, dost bid them be still:
10 C’est toi qui écrasas Rahab comme un cadavre, qui dispersas tes ennemis par la force de ton bras.
Thou, hast crushed—as one slain—Rahab, With thy strong arm, hast thou scattered thy foes.
11 A toi sont les cieux, à toi aussi la terre; le monde et ce qu’il contient, c’est toi qui l’as fondé.
Thine, are the heavens, Yea, thine, the earth, The world and the fulness thereof, Thou, didst found them;
12 Tu as créé le nord et le midi; le Thabor et l’Hermon tressaillent à ton nom.
The north and the south, Thou, didst create them, —Tabor and Hermon, with thy Name, shall shout for joy:
13 Ton bras est armé de puissance, ta main est forte, ta droite élevée.
Thine is an arm with might, Strong is thy hand, High is thy right hand;
14 La justice et l’équité sont le fondement de ton trône, la bonté et la fidélité se tiennent devant ta face.
Righteousness and justice, are the establishing of thy throne, Lovingkindness and faithfulness, go before thy face.
15 Heureux le peuple qui connaît les joyeuses acclamations, qui marche à la clarté de ta face, Yahweh!
How happy are the people who know the joyful sound! O Yahweh! in the light of thy countenance, shall they firmly march along;
16 Il se réjouit sans cesse en ton nom, et il s’élève par ta justice.
In thy Name, shall they exult all the day, And, in thy righteousness, shall they be exalted.
17 Car tu es sa gloire et sa puissance, et ta faveur élève notre force.
For, the beauty of their strength, thou art, And, in thine acceptance, shall our horns be exalted.
18 Car de Yahweh vient notre bouclier, et du Saint d’Israël notre roi.
For, to Yahweh, belongeth our Shield, And, to the Holy One of Israel, belongeth our King.
19 Tu parlas jadis dans une vision à ton bien-aimé, en disant: « J’ai prêté assistance à un héros, j’ai élevé un jeune homme du milieu du peuple.
Then spakest thou in vision of thy men of lovingkindness, and saidst—I have laid help upon a mighty one, I have exalted one chosen from among the people;
20 J’ai trouvé David, mon serviteur, je l’ai oint de mon huile sainte.
I have found David my servant, With mine own holy oil, have I anointed him;
21 Ma main sera constamment avec lui, et mon bras le fortifiera.
With whom my hand shall be firm, Yea, mine arm, shall strengthen him;
22 « L’ennemi ne le surprendra pas, et le fils d’iniquité ne l’emportera pas sur lui.
No foe shall make exactions on him, Nor shall, a son of perversity, humiliate him;
23 J’écraserai devant lui ses adversaires, et je frapperai ceux qui le haïssent.
And I will shatter, from before him, his adversaries, And, them who hate him, will I smite;
24 Ma fidélité et ma bonté seront avec lui, et par mon nom grandira sa puissance.
And, my faithfulness and my lovingkindness, shall be with him, And, in my Name, exalted shall be his horn;
25 J’étendrai sa main sur la mer et sa droite sur les fleuves.
And I will set, in the sea, his hand, And, in the rivers, his right hand;
26 « Il m’invoquera: Tu es mon père, mon Dieu et le rocher de mon salut.
He, shall cry out unto me, My Father, thou art, My GOD, and my Rock of Salvation!
27 Et moi je ferai de lui le premier-né, le plus élevé des rois de la terre.
Yea, I, will appoint him, firstborn, Most High to the kings of the earth!
28 Je lui conserverai ma bonté à jamais, et mon alliance lui sera fidèle.
Age-abidingly, will I keep for him my lovingkindness, And, my covenant, hath been made steadfast for him;
29 J’établirai sa postérité pour jamais, et son trône aura les jours des cieux.
Therefore will I appoint, to futurity, his seed, And his throne as the days of the heavens.
30 « Si ses fils abandonnent ma loi, et ne marchent pas selon mes ordonnances;
If his sons forsake my law, And, in my regulations, do not walk;
31 s’ils violent mes préceptes, et n’observent pas mes commandements;
If, my statutes, they profane, And, my commandments, do not keep:
32 je punirai de la verge leurs transgressions, et par des coups leurs iniquités;
Then will I punish, with a rod, their transgression; And, with stripes, their iniquity:
33 mais je ne lui retirerai pas ma bonté, et je ne ferai pas mentir ma fidélité.
But, my lovingkindness, will I not frustrate from them, Neither will I falsify my faithfulness;
34 « Je ne violerai pas mon alliance, et je ne changerai pas la parole sortie de mes lèvres.
I will not violate my covenant, And that which hath proceeded out of my lips, will I not alter:
35 Je l’ai juré une fois par ma sainteté; non, je ne mentirai pas à David.
One thing, have I sworn by my holiness, Verily, to David, will I not lie;
36 Sa postérité subsistera éternellement, son trône sera devant moi comme le soleil;
His seed, age-abidingly, shall remain, And, his throne, be like the sun before me;
37 comme la lune, il est établi pour toujours, et le témoin qui est au ciel est fidèle. » — Séla.
Like the moon, shall it be established unto times age-abiding, And, a witness, in the skies, hath been made sure. (Selah)
38 Et toi, tu as rejeté, et tu as dédaigné, et tu t’es irrité contre ton Oint!
Yet, thou thyself, hast cast off, and rejected, Thou hast been wroth with thine Anointed One!
39 Tu as pris en dégoût l’alliance avec son serviteur, tu as jeté à terre son diadème profané.
Thou hast cast down the covenant of thy Servant, Thou hast profaned, to the earth, his crown;
40 Tu as renversé toutes ses murailles, tu as mis en ruines ses forteresses.
Thou hast broken down all his defenses, Thou hast laid his fortresses in ruins;
41 Tous les passants le dépouillent; il est devenu l’opprobre de ses voisins.
All the passers by the way, have plundered him, He hath become a reproach to his neighbours;
42 Tu as élevé la droite de ses oppresseurs, tu as réjoui tous ses ennemis.
Thou hast raised the right hand of his adversaries, Thou hast gladdened all his enemies;
43 Tu as fait retourner en arrière le tranchant de son glaive, et tu ne l’as pas soutenu dans le combat.
Yea thou hast turned the edge of his sword, Neither hast thou caused him to stand in the battle;
44 Tu l’as dépouillé de sa splendeur, et tu as jeté par terre son trône.
Thou hast brought to an end his splendour, And, his throne—to the ground, hast thou hurled;
45 Tu as abrégé les jours de sa jeunesse, et tu l’as couvert d’ignominie. — Séla.
Thou hast shortened the days of his youths, —Thou hast covered him with shame. (Selah)
46 Jusques à quand, Yahweh, te cacheras-tu pour toujours, et ta fureur s’embrasera-t-elle comme le feu?
How long, O Yahweh, Wilt thou hide thyself utterly? Shall thine indignation, burn like fire?
47 Rappelle-toi la brièveté de ma vie, et pour quelle vanité tu as créé les fils de l’homme!
Remember how short-lived, I, am, Wherefore, in vain, hast thou created all the sons of Adam?
48 Quel est le vivant qui ne verra pas la mort, qui soustraira son âme au pouvoir du schéol? — Séla. (Sheol h7585)
Who is the man that shall live, and not see death? That can deliver his soul from the hand of hades. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
49 Où sont, Seigneur, tes bontés d’autrefois, que tu juras à David dans ta fidélité?
Where are thy former lovingkindnesses, O My Lord? Thou didst swear unto David, in thy faithfulness!
50 Souviens-toi, Seigneur, de l’opprobre de tes serviteurs; souviens-toi que je porte dans mon sein les outrages de tant de peuples nombreux;
Remember, O My Lord, the reproach of thy servants, I have carried in my bosom the insult of the peoples:
51 souviens-toi des outrages de tes ennemis, Yahweh, de leurs outrages contre les pas de ton Oint.
In that thy foes have reproached, O Yahweh, In that they have reproached the footsteps of thine Anointed One!
52 Béni soit à jamais Yahweh! Amen! Amen!
Blessed be Yahweh to times age-abiding, Amen, and Amen!
