Psaumes 8

1 Au maître de chant. Sur la Gitthienne. Chant de David. Yahweh, notre Seigneur, que ton nom est glorieux sur toute la terre! Toi qui as revêtu les cieux de ta majesté!

For the chief musician; set to the gittith style. A psalm of David. Yahweh our Lord, how magnificent is your name in all the earth, you who reveal your glory in the heavens above.

2 Par la bouche des enfants et de ceux qui sont à la mamelle tu t’es fondé une force pour confondre tes ennemis, pour imposer silence à l’adversaire et au blasphémateur.

Out of the mouth of babies and infants you have established praise because of your enemies, so that you might silence both the enemy and the avenger.

3 Quand je contemple tes cieux, ouvrage de tes doigts, la lune et les étoiles que tu as créées, je m’écrie:

When I look up at your heavens, which your fingers have made, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

4 Qu’est-ce que l’homme, pour que tu te souviennes de lui, et le fils de l’homme, pour que tu en prennes soin?

Of what importance is the human race that you notice them, or mankind that you pay attention to them?

5 Tu l’as fait de peu inférieur à Dieu, tu l’as couronné de gloire et d’honneur.

Yet you have made them only a little lower than the heavenly beings and have crowned them with glory and honor.

6 Tu lui as donné l’empire sur les œuvres de tes mains; tu as mis toutes choses sous ses pieds:

You make him to rule over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet:

7 Brebis et bœufs, tous ensemble, et les animaux des champs;

all sheep and oxen, and even the animals of the field,

8 oiseaux du ciel et poissons de la mer, et tout ce qui parcourt les sentiers des mers.

the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, everything that passes through the currents of the seas.

9 Yahweh, notre Seigneur, que ton nom est glorieux sur toute la terre!

Yahweh our Lord, how magnificent is your name in all the earth!
