Proverbes 2

1 Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles; et si tu gardes avec toi mes préceptes;

My son, if you would accept my words, and conceal my commandments within you,

2 rendant ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, et inclinant ton cœur vers l’intelligence;

so that your ears may listen to wisdom, then bend your heart in order to know prudence.

3 oui, si tu appelles la prudence, et si tu élèves ta voix vers l’intelligence,

For if you would call upon wisdom and bend your heart to prudence,

4 si tu la cherches comme l’argent, et si tu la creuses comme pour découvrir un trésor; —

if you will seek her like money, and dig for her as if for treasure,

5 alors tu comprendras la crainte de Yahweh, et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.

then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and you will discover the knowledge of God.

6 Car Yahweh donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent la science et la prudence;

For the Lord bestows wisdom, and out of his mouth, prudence and knowledge.

7 il garde le bonheur pour les hommes droits, il est un bouclier pour ceux qui marchent dans la perfection;

He will preserve the salvation of the righteous, and he will protect those who walk in simplicity:

8 il protège les sentiers de l’équité, il veille sur la voie de ses fidèles. —

serving the paths of justice, and guarding the ways of sanctity.

9 Alors tu comprendras la justice, l’équité, la droiture et tous les sentiers du bien.

Then you shall understand justice and judgment, and equity, and every good path.

10 Lorsque la sagesse viendra dans ton cœur, et que la science fera les délices de ton âme,

If wisdom is to enter into your heart, and if knowledge is to become pleasing to your soul,

11 la réflexion veillera sur toi, et l’intelligence te gardera,

then counsel must guard you, and prudence must serve you,

12 pour te délivrer de la voie du mal, de l’homme qui tient des discours pervers,

so that you may be rescued from the evil way, and from the man who speaks perversities,

13 de ceux qui abandonnent les droits sentiers, afin de marcher dans des chemins ténébreux,

from those who leave the straight path to walk in dark ways,

14 qui se réjouissent de faire le mal, et mettent leur plaisir dans les pires perversités,

who rejoice when they have done evil, and who exult in the most wicked things.

15 dont les sentiers sont tortueux et qui suivent des voies obliques; —

Their ways are perverse, and their steps are infamous.

16 pour te délivrer de la femme qui est à un autre, de l’étrangère qui use de paroles doucereuses,

So may you be rescued from the foreign woman, and from the outsider, who softens her speech,

17 qui abandonne le compagnon de sa jeunesse, et oublie l’alliance de son Dieu;

and who leaves behind the Guide of her youth,

18 car elle penche avec sa maison vers la mort, et sa route conduit aux enfers;

and who has forgotten the covenant of her God. For her household inclines toward death, and her paths toward Hell. (questioned)

19 de tous ceux qui vont à elle, nul ne revient, aucun ne retrouve les sentiers de la vie.

All those who enter to her will not return again, nor will they take hold of the paths of life.

20 Ainsi tu marcheras dans la voie des hommes de bien, et tu garderas les sentiers des justes.

So may you walk in the good way, and keep to the difficult paths of the just.

21 Car les hommes droits habiteront la terre et les hommes intègres y demeureront;

For those who are upright shall live upon the earth, and the simple shall continue upon it.

22 mais les méchants seront retranchés de la terre, et les infidèles en seront arrachés.

Yet truly, the impious shall perish from the earth, and those who act unjustly shall be taken away from it.
