Abdias 1
1 Vision d’Abdias. Ainsi a dit le Seigneur Yahweh à Edom: — Nous avons reçu de Yahweh un message, et un héraut a été envoyé parmi les nations: « Debout! Levons-nous contre lui pour combattre! » —
The vision of Obadiah, —Thus, saith My Lord, Yahweh, concerning Edom—A rumour, have we heard from Yahweh, and, a herald, throughout the nations, hath been sent, Up! and let us rise against her to war.
2 Voici que je t’ai rendu petit parmi les nations, tu es l’objet du plus grand mépris.
Lo! small, have I made thee, among the nations—Despised art thou exceedingly!
3 La fierté de ton cœur t’a égaré! Lui qui habite dans des creux de rochers, dont les hauteurs sont la demeure, il dit dans son cœur: « Qui me fera descendre à terre? »
The insolence of thy heart, hath deceived thee, O thou that inhabitest the retreats of the crag, the height of his habitation, —that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?
4 Quand tu t’élèverais aussi haut que l’aigle, que tu placerais ton aire parmi les étoiles, je t’en ferais descendre, — oracle de Yahweh.
Though thou build high like an eagle, and though, among the stars, thou set thy nest, from thence, will I bring thee down, Declareth Yahweh.
5 Si des voleurs étaient entrés chez toi, des pillards de nuit, — comme te voilà dévasté! — n’auraient-ils pas emporté que ce qui leur suffisait? Si des vendangeurs étaient entrés chez toi, n’auraient-ils rien laissé à grappiller?
If, thieves, had come to thee, if robbers by night—how ruined thou art! Would they not have stolen what sufficed them? If, grape-gatherers, had come to thee, Would they not have left gleanings?
6 Comme Esaü a été fouillé, comme On a cherché ses trésors cachés!
How have the things of Esau been searched out! his treasures been sought up!
7 Ils t’ont chassé jusqu’à la frontière, tous tes alliés; ils t’ont joué, ils ont prévalu sur toi, ceux qui jouissaient de ton amitié; ceux qui mangeaient ton pain ont mis un piège sous tes pas. Il n’y a pas en lui d’intelligence!
Up to the boundary, have they sent thee—All thy covenant men, they have deceived thee, prevailed against thee—the men thou wast wont to salute, —The partakers of thy bread, have put a net under thee—No understanding in him!
8 Est-ce qu’en ce jour-là, — oracle de Yahweh, je n’ôterai pas d’Edom les sages, et de la montagne d’Esaü l’intelligence?
Shall it not be, in that day, Demandeth Yahweh, —That I will destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of Mount Esau?
9 Tes guerriers, ô Théman, seront dans l’épouvante, afin que tout homme soit retranché de la montagne d’Esaü.
So shall thy mighty men, O Teman, be dismayed, —to the intent that every man, may be cut off, out of Mount Esau, by slaughter.
10 A cause du massacre, à cause de la violence contre ton frère Jacob, la honte te couvrira, et tu seras retranché à jamais.
For thy violence against thy brother Jacob, shall shame, cover thee, —so shalt thou be cut off, to times age-abiding.
11 Au jour où tu te tenais en face de lui, au jour où des ennemis emmenaient son armée, et où des étrangers pénétraient dans ses portes, et jetaient le sort sur Jérusalem, toi aussi, tu étais comme l’un d’eux!
In the day when thou didst take thy stand over against him, in the day when foreigners took captive his forces, —and, aliens, entered his gates, and, over Jerusalem, cast lots, even thou, wast like one of them!
12 Ne repais pas ta vue du jour de ton frère, au jour de son infortune; ne te réjouis pas au sujet des enfants de Juda, au jour de leur ruine; et ne profère pas d’insolentes paroles, au jour de la détresse.
Do not, then, look with satisfaction upon the day of thy brother, upon the day of his calamity, Neither rejoice over the sons of Judah—in the day of their ruin, —nor enlarge thy mouth—in the day of distress:
13 N’entre pas dans la porte de mon peuple; au jour de leur calamité; ne repais pas ta vue, toi aussi, de son malheur, au jour de sa calamité; et n’étends pas ta main sur ses richesses, au jour de sa calamité.
Do not enter into the gate of my people—in the day of their misfortune, Do not, thou also, look with satisfaction on his misery—in the day of his misfortune; neither do thou thrust [thy hands] on his substance—in the day of his misfortune;
14 Ne te tiens pas au carrefour des chemins, pour massacrer ses fuyards; ne livre pas ses réchappés, au jour de la détresse.
Neither do thou stand at the parting of the way, to cut off his fugitives, —neither do thou deliver up his survivors—in the day of distress.
15 Car il est proche le jour de Yahweh, pour toutes les nations; comme tu as fait, il te sera fait; ton œuvre retombera sur ta tête.
For, near, is the day of Yahweh, upon all the nations, —Just as thou hast done, shall it be done to thee, Thy dealing, shall come back upon thine own head.
16 Car, de même que vous avez bu sur ma sainte montagne, toutes les nations boiront continuellement; elles boiront, elles avaleront, et elles seront comme n’ayant pas été.
For, as ye have drunk on my holy mountain, all the nations shall drink continually, —Yea they shall drink and swallow down, and shall be, as though they had not been.
17 Mais sur la montagne de Sion il y aura des réchappés; elle sera un lieu saint, et la maison de Jacob rentrera dans ses possessions.
But, in Mount Zion, shall be a delivered remnant which shall be holy, —and the house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions;
18 La maison de Jacob sera un feu, la maison de Joseph une flamme, et la maison d’Esaü sera réduite à être du chaume. Celles-là l’allumeront et le dévoreront, et il n’y aura pas de survivant pour la maison d’Esaü; car Yahweh a parlé.
And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, with the house of Esau for stubble, So shall they kindle upon them, and devour them, —and there shall be no survivor to the house of Esau, for, Yahweh, hath spoken.
19 Ceux du négéb posséderont la montagne d’Esaü et ceux de la sephélah le pays des Philistins; ils posséderont le territoire d’Ephraïm, et le territoire de Samarie; et ceux de Benjamin posséderont Galaad.
Then shall they of the South possess Mount Esau, and they of the Lowlands, the Philistines, and they [of the Mountain] shall possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria, —and Benjamin [shall possess] Gilead;
20 Les captifs de cette armée des enfants d’Israël posséderont le pays des Chananéens jusqu’à Sarepta. Et les captifs de Jérusalem qui sont à Sépharad posséderont les villes du négéb.
And, they of the captivity of this force pertaining to the sons of Israel, [shall possess] that of the Canaanites, up to Zarephath, and, they of the captivity of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad, shall possess the cities of the South.
21 Et des libérateurs monteront à la montagne de Sion, pour juger la montagne d’Esaü; et à Yahweh sera l’empire.
And saviours shall come up in Mount Zion, to judge the mountain of Esau, —So shall the kingdom, belong unto Yahweh.
