1 Yahweh parla à Moïse au désert de Sinaï, dans la tente de réunion, le premier jour du second mois, la deuxième année après leur sortie du pays d’Égypte, en disant:
Then spake Yahweh unto Moses in the desert of Sinai in the tent of meeting, —on the first of the second month in the second year by their coming forth out of the land of Egypt saying:
2 « Faites le compte de toute l’assemblée des enfants d’Israël, selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant par tête le nom de tous les mâles
Reckon ye up the sum of all the assembly of the sons of Israel, by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, every male, by their polls;
3 depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes aptes à porter les armes en Israël; vous en ferez le dénombrement selon leurs troupes, toi et Aaron.
from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war in Israel, —ye shall number them by their hosts, thou and Aaron;
4 Il y aura avec vous un homme de chaque tribu, chef de sa maison patriarcale.
and with you, shall be one man for each tribe, —each man, head of his ancestral house, shall be.
5 Voici les noms de ceux qui se tiendront avec vous: Pour Ruben: Elisur, fils de Sédéur;
These, then, are the names of the men who shall stand with you, —Of Reuben, Elizur, son of Shedeur;
6 pour Siméon: Salamiel, fils de Surisaddaï;
Of Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai;
7 pour Juda: Nahasson, fils d’Aminadab;
Of Judah, Nahshon, son of Amminadab;
8 pour Issachar: Nathanaël, fils de Suar;
Of Issachar, Nethanel, son of Zuar;
9 pour Zabulon: Eliab, fils de Hélon;
Of Zebulun, Eliab, son of Helon;
10 pour les fils de Joseph, pour Ephraïm: Elisama, fils d’Ammiud; pour Manassé: Gamaliel, fils de Phadassur;
Of the sons of Joseph, —Of Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; Of Manasseh, Gamaliel, son of Pedahzur;
11 pour Benjamin: Abidan, fils de Gédéon;
Of Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni;
12 pour Dan: Ahiéser, fils d’Ammisaddaï;
Of Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai;
13 pour Aser: Phégiel, fils d’Ochran;
Of Asher, Pagiel, son of Ochran;
14 pour Gad: Eliasaph, fils de Duel;
Of Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel;
15 pour Nephtali: Ahira, fils d’Enan. »
Of Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.
16 Tels sont ceux qui furent appelés de l’assemblée; ils étaient princes des tribus de leurs pères, chefs des milliers d’Israël.
These, are they who had been summoned by the assembly, being princes of the tribes of their fathers, —heads of the thousands of Israel.
17 Moïse et Aaron, ayant pris ces hommes qui avaient été désignés par leurs noms,
So then Moses and Aaron took these men, who were distinguished by name;
18 convoquèrent toute l’assemblée pour le premier jour du deuxième mois. Et ils furent enregistrés selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant par tête les noms, depuis l’âge de vingt et au-dessus.
all the assembly also, called they together on the first of the second month, —and they declared their pedigree according to their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards by their polls.
19 Comme Yahweh l’avait ordonné à Moïse, celui-ci en fit le dénombrement dans le désert de Sinaï.
As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he mustered them in the desert of Sinai.
20 Fils de Ruben, premier-né d’Israël, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms par tête, tous les mâles depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter des armes:
And they were [as followeth] —The sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, in their pedigrees—by their families, by their ancestral houses, in the counting of names, by their polls, every male, from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
21 les recensés de la tribu de Ruben furent quarante-six mille cinq cents.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Reuben, forty-six thousand and five hundred.
22 Fils de Siméon, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, leurs recensés en comptant les noms par tête, tous les mâles depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Simeon, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, —such as were numbered of him, in the counting of names by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
23 les recensés de la tribu de Siméon furent cinquante-neuf mille trois cents.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Simeon, fifty-nine thousand and three hundred.
24 Fils de Gad, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Gad, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war:
25 les recensés de la tribu de Gad furent quarante-cinq mille six cent cinquante.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Gad, forty-five thousand and six hundred and fifty.
26 Fils de Juda, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Judah, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
27 les recensés de la tribu de Juda furent soixante-quatorze mille six cents.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Judah, seventy-four thousand and six hundred.
28 Fils d’Issachar, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Issachar, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty year old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
29 les recensés de la tribu d’Issachar furent cinquante-quatre mille quatre cents.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Issachar, fifty-four thousand and four hundred.
30 Fils de Zabulon, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Zebulun, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
31 les recensés de la tribu de Zabulon furent cinquante-sept mille quatre cents.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Zebulun, fifty-seven thousand and four hundred.
32 Fils de Joseph, — fils d’Ephraïm, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Joseph—Of the sons of Ephraim, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old, and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
33 les recensés de la tribu d’Ephraïm furent quarante mille cinq cents.
such as were numbered of them, as belonging to the tribe of Ephraim, forty thousand and five hundred.
34 — Fils de Manassé, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Manasseh, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
35 les recensés de la tribu de Manassé furent trente-deux mille deux cents.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Manasseh, thirty-two thousand, and two hundred.
36 Fils de Benjamin, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Benjamin, in their pedigrees by their families, by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old, and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;

such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Benjamin, thirty-five thousand and four hundred.
38 Fils de Dan, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Dan, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, in the counting of names from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;

such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Dan, sixty-two thousand, and seven hundred.
40 Fils d’Aser, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
Of the sons of Asher, in their pedigrees—by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old, and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
41 les recensés de la tribu d’Aser furent quarante et un mille cinq cents.
such as were numbered of them as belonging to the tribe of Asher, forty-one thousand, and five hundred.
42 Fils de Nephtali, leurs descendants selon leurs familles, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, en comptant les noms depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes en état de porter les armes:
The sons of Naphtali, in their pedigrees by their families by their ancestral houses, —in the counting of names, from twenty years old, and upwards, every one able to go forth to war;
43 les recensés de la tribu de Nephtali furent cinquante-trois mille quatre cents.
such as were numbered of them, as belonging to the tribe of Naphtali, fifty-three thousand, and four hundred.
44 Tels sont ceux qui furent recensés, que recensèrent Moïse et Aaron, avec les princes d’Israël, au nombre de douze: un homme pour chacune de leurs maisons patriarcales.
These, are they who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron and the twelve princes of Israel did number, the princes acting each one for his ancestral house.
45 Tous les enfants d’Israël dont on fit le recensement, selon leurs maisons patriarcales, depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, tous les hommes d’Israël en état de porter les armes,
So then all they who were numbered of the sons of Israel by their ancestral houses, from twenty years old and upwards, every one able to go forth to war in Israel;
46 tous les recensés furent six cent trois mille cinq cent cinquante.
so then all they who were numbered were six hundred and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.
47 Les Lévites, selon leur tribu patriarcale, ne furent pas recensés avec eux.
But the Levites by the tribe of their fathers were not numbered in their midst.
48 Yahweh parla à Moïse, en disant:
For Yahweh spake unto Moses saying:
49 « Tu ne feras pas le recensement de la tribu de Lévi, et tu n’en réuniras pas le compte avec celui des enfants d’Israël.
Only the tribe of Levi, shalt thou not number, nor the sum of them, shalt thou reckon up, in the midst of the sons of Israel.
50 Remets à leur soin la demeure du témoignage, tous ses ustensiles et tout ce qui lui appartient. Ils porteront la Demeure et tous ses ustensiles, ils en feront le service, et ils camperont autour de la Demeure.
But do, thou thyself, put the Levites in charge over the habitation of the testimony, and over all the furniture thereof and over all that pertaineth thereto, they, shall bear the habitation, and all the furniture thereof, and they, shall attend thereupon; and, round about the habitation, shall they encamp.
51 Quand la Demeure partira, les Lévites la démonteront; quand la Demeure campera, les Lévites la dresseront; et l’étranger qui s’en approchera sera puni de mort.
And, when the habitation is to set forward, the Levites shall take it down, and when the habitation is to be pitched, the Levites, shall set it up, but the stranger that draweth near, shall be put to death.
52 Les enfants d’Israël camperont chacun dans son camp, chacun près de sa bannière, selon leurs troupes.
So then the sons of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man, near his own camp, and, every man, near his own standard, by their hosts;
53 Mais les Lévites camperont autour de la Demeure du témoignage, afin que ma colère n’éclate pas sur l’assemblée des enfants d’Israël; et les Lévites auront la garde de la Demeure du témoignage. »
but the Levites, shall pitch their tents round about the habitation of the testimony, that there be no wrath upon the assembly of the sons of Israel, —so shall the Levites keep the watch of the habitation of the testimony.
54 Les enfants d’Israël agirent selon tout ce que Yahweh avait ordonné à Moïse; ils firent ainsi.
Thus did the sons of Israel, —according to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so, did they.
