1 Yahweh parla à Moïse, en disant:
And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
2 « Venge les enfants d’Israël sur les Madianites; tu seras ensuite recueilli auprès de ton peuple. »
Reuenge the children of Israel of the Midianites, and afterwarde shalt thou be gathered vnto thy people.
3 Moïse parla au peuple, en disant: « Armez pour la guerre des hommes d’entre vous, et qu’ils marchent contre Madian, pour exécuter la vengeance de Yahweh sur Madian.
And Moses spake to the people, saying, Harnesse some of you vnto warre, and let them goe against Midian, to execute the vengeance of the Lord against Midian.
4 Vous enverrez à la guerre mille hommes par tribu, de toutes les tribus d’Israël. »
A thousande of euery tribe throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye sende to the warre.
5 On leva donc d’entre les milliers d’Israël mille hommes par tribu, soit douze mille hommes armés pour la guerre.
So there were taken out of the thousands of Israel, twelue thousande prepared vnto warre, of euery tribe a thousand.
6 Moïse les envoya au combat, mille hommes par tribu, eux et Phinées, le fils d’Eléazar, le prêtre, qui avait avec lui les instruments sacrés et les trompettes retentissantes.
And Moses sent them to the warre, euen a thousand of euery tribe, and sent them with Phinehas the sonne of Eleazar the Priest to the warre: and the holy instruments, that is, the trumpets to blow were in his hand.
7 Ils s’avancèrent contre Madian, selon l’ordre que Yahweh avait donné à Moïse, et ils tuèrent tous les mâles.
And they warred against Midian, as the Lord had commanded Moses, and slue all the males.
8 Outre ceux qui étaient tombés dans la bataille, ils tuèrent les rois de Madian: Evi, Récem, Sur, Hur et Rebé, cinq rois de Madian; ils tuèrent aussi par l’épée Balaam, fils de Béor.
They slue also the Kings of Midian among them that were slaine: Eui and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur and Reba fiue kings of Midian, and they slue Balaam the sonne of Beor with the sworde:
9 Les enfants d’Israël firent prisonnières les femmes des Madianites avec leurs petits enfants, et ils pillèrent toutes leurs bêtes de somme, tous leurs troupeaux et tous leurs biens.
But the children of Israel tooke the women of Midian prisoners, and their children, and spoyled all their cattell, and all their flockes, and all their goods.
10 Ils livrèrent aux flammes toutes les villes du pays qu’ils habitaient et tous leurs campements.
And they burnt all their cities, wherein they dwelt, and all their villages with fire.
11 Ayant pris tout le butin et toutes les dépouilles, gens et bestiaux,
And they tooke all the spoyle and all the pray both of men and beastes.
12 ils amenèrent les prisonniers, les dépouilles et le butin à Moïse, à Eléazar, le prêtre, et à l’assemblée des enfants d’Israël, au camp, dans les plaines de Moab, près du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.
And they brought the captiues and that which they had taken, and the spoyle vnto Moses and to Eleazar the Priest, and vnto the Congregation of the children of Israel, into ye campe in the playne of Moab, which was by Iorden toward Iericho.
13 Moïse, Eléazar, le prêtre, et tous les princes de l’assemblée sortirent au-devant d’eux, hors du camp.
Then Moses and Eleazar the Priest, and all the princes of the Congregation went out of the campe to meete them.
14 Et Moïse s’irrita contre les commandants de l’armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, qui revenaient du combat.
And Moses was angry with the captaines of the hoste, with the captaines ouer thousands, and captaines ouer hundreds, which came from the warre and battel.
15 Il leur dit: « Avez-vous donc laissé la vie à toutes les femmes?
And Moses sayde vnto them, What? haue ye saued all the women?
16 Voici, ce sont elles qui, sur la parole de Balaam, ont entraîné les enfants d’Israël à l’infidélité envers Yahweh, dans l’affaire de Phogor; et alors la plaie fut dans l’assemblée de Yahweh.
Behold, these caused the children of Israel through the counsell of Balaam to commit a trespasse against the Lord, as concerning Peor, and there came a plague among the Congregation of the Lord.
17 Maintenant, tuez tout mâle parmi les petits enfants, et tuez toute femme qui a connu la couche d’un homme;
Now therefore, slay all the males among the children, and kill all the women that haue knowen man by carnall copulation.
18 mais toutes les filles qui n’ont pas connu la couche d’un homme, laissez-les vivre pour vous.
But all the women children that haue not knowen carnall copulation, keepe aliue for your selues.
19 Et vous, campez hors du camp pendant sept jours; quiconque a tué quelqu’un et quiconque a touché un mort se purifiera le troisième jour et le septième jour, lui et vos prisonniers.
And ye shall remaine without the host seuen dayes, all that haue killed any person, and all that haue touched any dead, and purifie both your selues and your prisoners the third day and the seuenth.
20 Vous purifierez aussi tout vêtement, tout objet de peau, tout ouvrage de poil de chèvre et tout ustensile de bois. »
Also ye shall purifie euery garment and all that is made of skins and al worke of goates heare, and all things made of wood.
21 Eléazar, le prêtre, dit aux hommes de guerre qui étaient allés au combat: « Voici ce qui est commandé par la loi que Yahweh a prescrite à Moïse:
And Eleazar ye Priest sayd vnto the men of warre, which went to the battel, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lord commanded Moses,
22 l’or, l’argent, l’airain, le fer, l’étain et le plomb,
As for gold, and siluer, brasse, yron, tynne, and lead:
23 tout objet qui va au feu, vous le ferez passer par le feu, et il sera pur; toutefois il sera purifié encore par l’eau de purification. Tout ce qui ne va pas au feu, vous le ferez passer par l’eau.
Euen all that may abide the fire, yee shall make it goe through the fire, and it shalbe cleane: yet, it shalbe purified with the water of purification: and all that suffereth not the fire, yee shall cause to passe by the water.
24 Vous laverez vos vêtements, le septième jour, et vous serez purs; vous pourrez ensuite entrer dans le camp. »
Ye shall wash also your clothes the seuenth day, and ye shalbe cleane: and afterward ye shall come into the Hoste.
25 Yahweh parla à Moïse, en disant:
And the Lord spake vnto Moses, saying,
26 « Fais, toi et Eléazar, le prêtre, et les chefs de maisons de l’assemblée, le compte de ce qui a été pris des dépouilles en hommes et en bestiaux,
Take the summe of the praie that was taken, both of persons and of cattell, thou and Eleazar the Priest, and the chiefe fathers of the Congregation.
27 et partage les dépouilles entre les combattants qui sont allés à la guerre et toute l’assemblée.
And deuide the praye betweene the souldiers that went to the warre, and all the Congregation.
28 Tu prélèveras sur la part des soldats qui sont allés à la guerre un tribut pour Yahweh, savoir un sur cinq cents, gens, bœufs, ânes et brebis.
And thou shalt take a tribute vnto ye Lord of the men of warre, which went out to battel: one person of fiue hundreth, both of the persons, and of the beeues, and of the asses, and of the sheepe.
29 Vous le prendrez sur leur moitié et tu le donneras à Eléazar, le prêtre, comme prélèvement de Yahweh.
Yee shall take it of their halfe and giue it vnto Eleazar the Priest, as an heaue offring of the Lord.
30 Sur la moitié qui revient aux enfants d’Israël, tu mettras à part un sur cinquante, gens, bœufs, ânes, brebis et tout bétail, et tu le donneras aux Lévites, qui ont la garde de la Demeure de Yahweh. »
But of the halfe of the children of Israel thou shalt take one, taken out of fiftie, both of the persons, of the beeues, of the asses, and of the sheepe, euen of all the cattel: and thou shalt giue them vnto the Leuites, which haue the charge of the Tabernacle of the Lord.
31 Moïse et Eléazar, le prêtre, firent comme Yahweh l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord had commanded Moses.
32 Les dépouilles, le reste du butin qu’avaient fait les combattants étaient de six cent soixante-quinze mille brebis,
And the bootie, to wit, the rest of the praie which the men of warre had spoyled, was sixe hundreth seuentie and fiue thousand sheepe,
33 soixante-douze mille bœufs,
And seuentie and two thousand beeues,
34 soixante et un mille ânes,
And three score and one thousand asses,
35 et trente-deux mille d’entre les femmes qui n’avaient pas connu la couche d’un homme.
And two and thirtie thousande persons in all, of women that had lyen by no man.
36 La moitié, part de ceux qui étaient allés à la guerre, fut de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis,
And the halfe, to wit, the part of them that went out to warre touching the nomber of sheepe, was three hundreth seuen and thirtie thousand, and fiue hundreth.
37 six cent soixante-quinze brebis pour le tribut de Yahweh;
And the Lordes tribute of the sheepe was sixe hundreth and seuentie and fiue:
38 trente-six mille bœufs, dont soixante-douze pour le tribut de Yahweh;
And the beeues were six and thirty thousad, whereof the Lordes tribute was seuentie and two.
39 trente mille cinq cents ânes, dont soixante-et-un pour le tribut de Yahweh;
And the asses were thirtie thousande and fiue hundreth, whereof the Lordes tribute was three score and one:
40 et seize mille personnes, trente-deux personnes pour le tribut de Yahweh.
And of persons sixtene thousand, whereof the Lordes tribute was two and thirtie persons.
41 Moïse donna à Eléazar, le prêtre, le tribut prélevé pour Yahweh, ainsi que Yahweh l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
And Moses gaue the tribute of the Lordes offring vnto Eleazar the Priest, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
42 Quant à la moitié revenant aux enfants d’Israël, que Moïse avait séparée de celle des combattants,
And of the halfe of the children of Israel, which Moses deuided from the men of warre,
43 cette moitié formant la part de l’assemblée fut de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis,
(For the halfe that perteined vnto the Congregation, was three hundreth thirtie and seuen thousand sheepe and fiue hundreth,
44 trente-six mille bœufs,
And sixe and thirtie thousand beeues,
45 trente mille cinq cents ânes
And thirtie thousand asses, and fiue hudreth,
46 et seize mille personnes.
And sixteene thousande persons)
47 Sur cette moitié qui revenait aux enfants d’Israël, Moïse prit un sur cinquante et le donna aux Lévites, qui ont la garde de la Demeure de Yahweh, ainsi que Yahweh l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
Moses, I say, tooke of the halfe that perteined vnto the children of Israel, one taken out of fiftie, both of the persons, and of the cattell, and gaue them vnto the Leuites, which haue the charge of the Tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.
48 Les commandants des milliers de l’armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, s’approchèrent de Moïse
Then the captaines which were ouer thousandes of the hoste, the captaines ouer the thousandes, and the captaines ouer the hundreds came vnto Moses:
49 et lui dirent: « Tes serviteurs ont compté les combattants qui étaient sous nos ordres, et il ne manque pas un homme d’entre nous.
And saide to Moses, Thy seruants haue taken the summe of the men of warre which are vnder our authoritie, and there lacketh not one man of vs.
50 C’est pourquoi nous apportons comme offrande à Yahweh les objets d’or que chacun de nous a trouvés, bracelets, chaînettes, anneaux, pendants d’oreilles et colliers, pour faire l’expiation pour nous devant Yahweh. »
We haue therefore brought a present vnto the Lord, what euery man found of iewels of golde, bracelets, and cheines, rings, eare ringes, and ornaments of the legges, to make an atonement for our soules before the Lord.
51 Moïse et Eléazar, le prêtre, reçurent d’eux cet or, tous ces objets bien travaillés.
And Moses and Eleazar the Priest tooke the golde of them, and all wrought iewels,
52 Tout l’or prélevé qu’ils présentèrent à Yahweh de la part des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, fut de seize mille sept cent cinquante sicles.
And all the golde of the offring that they offered vp to the Lord (of the captaines ouer thousands and hundreds) was sixteene thousande seuen hundreth and fiftie shekels,
53 Les hommes de la troupe eurent chacun leur butin pour eux.
(For the men of warre had spoyled, euery man for him selfe)
54 Moïse et Eléazar, le prêtre, ayant pris l’or des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, l’apportèrent dans la tente de réunion, comme mémorial pour les enfants d’Israël devant Yahweh.
And Moses and Eleazar the Priest tooke the golde of the captaines ouer the thousandes, and ouer the hundreds, and brought it into the Tabernacle of the Congregation, for a memoriall of the children of Israel before the Lord.
