1 Moïse parla aux chefs des tribus des enfants d’Israël, en disant: « Voici ce que Yahweh ordonne:
And Moses speaketh unto the heads of the tribes of the sons of Israel, saying, 'This [is] the thing which Jehovah hath commanded:
2 Si un homme fait un vœu à Yahweh ou s’il fait un serment pour s’imposer à soi-même un engagement, il ne violera pas sa parole; tout ce qui est sorti de sa bouche, il le fera.
'When a man voweth a vow to Jehovah, or hath sworn an oath to bind a bond on his soul, he doth not pollute his word; according to all that is going out from his mouth he doth.
3 Si une femme, encore jeune fille dans la maison de son père, fait un vœu à Yahweh et se lie par un engagement,
'And when a woman voweth a vow to Jehovah, and hath bound a bond in the house of her father in her youth,
4 et que son père apprenne son vœu et l’engagement qu’elle s’est imposé à elle-même, et que son père garde le silence envers elle, tous ses vœux qu’elle aura faits et tout engagement qu’elle s’est imposé à elle-même seront valables;
and her father hath heard her vow, and her bond which she hath bound on her soul, and her father hath kept silent at her, then have all her vows been established, and every bond which she hath bound on her soul is established.
5 mais si, le jour où il en a connaissance, son père la désavoue, tous ses vœux et tous les engagements qu’elle s’est imposé à elle-même seront sans valeur; et Yahweh lui pardonnera, parce que son père l’a désavouée.
'And if her father hath disallowed her in the day of his hearing, none of her vows and her bonds which she hath bound on her soul is established, and Jehovah is propitious to her, for her father hath disallowed her.
6 Si elle se marie, et que pèsent sur elle ses vœux ou une parole imprudemment sortie de ses lèvres par laquelle elle s’est imposé à elle-même un engagement,
'And if she be at all to a husband, and her vows [are] on her, or a wrongful utterance [on] her lips, which she hath bound on her soul,
7 et si son mari, l’apprenant, garde le silence envers elle le jour où il l’apprendra, ses vœux seront valables, ainsi que ses engagements qu’elle s’est imposé à elle-même;
and her husband hath heard, and in the day of his hearing, he hath kept silent at her, then have her vows been established, and her bonds which she hath bound on her soul are established.
8 mais si, le jour où il l’apprend, son mari la désavoue, il rend nul son vœu qui pèse sur elle et la parole imprudemment sortie de ses lèvres par laquelle elle s’est imposé à elle-même un engagement; et Yahweh lui pardonnera.
'And if in the day of her husband's hearing he disalloweth her, then he hath broken her vow which [is] on her, and the wrongful utterance of her lips which she hath bound on her soul, and Jehovah is propitious to her.
9 Le vœu d’une femme veuve ou répudiée, tout engagement qu’elle s’est imposé à elle-même, seront valables pour elle.
'As to the vow of a widow or cast-out woman, all that she hath bound on her soul is established on her.
10 Si c’est dans la maison de son mari qu’une femme a fait un vœu ou s’est imposé à elle-même un engagement par un serment,
'And if [in] the house of her husband she hath vowed, or hath bound a bond on her soul with an oath,
11 et que son mari, l’apprenant, garde le silence envers elle et ne la désavoue pas, tous ses vœux seront valables, ainsi que tous les engagements qu’elle s’est imposé à elle-même;
and her husband hath heard, and hath kept silent at her — he hath not disallowed her — then have all her vows been established, and every bond which she hath bound on her soul is established.
12 mais si, le jour où il l’apprend, son mari les annule, tout ce qui est sorti de ses lèvres, vœux ou engagements, sera sans valeur: son mari les a annulés; et Yahweh lui pardonnera.
'And if her husband doth certainly break them in the day of his hearing, none of the outgoing of her lips concerning her vows, or concerning the bond of her soul, is established — her husband hath broken them — and Jehovah is propitious to her.
13 Tout vœu et tout serment par lequel elle s’engage à affliger son âme, son mari peut les ratifier et son mari peut les annuler.
'Every vow and every oath — a bond to humble a soul — her husband doth establish it, or her husband doth break it;
14 Si son mari garde d’un jour à l’autre le silence envers elle, il ratifie ainsi tous ses vœux ou tous ses engagements qui pèsent sur elle; il les ratifie, parce qu’il a gardé le silence envers elle le jour où il l’a appris.
and if her husband certainly keep silent at her, from day unto day, then he hath established all her vows, or all her bonds which [are] upon her; he hath established them, for he hath kept silent at her in the day of his hearing;
15 S’il les annule après le jour où il l’a appris, il portera l’iniquité de sa femme. »
and if he doth at all break them after his hearing, then he hath borne her iniquity.'
16 Telles sont les lois que Yahweh prescrivit à Moïse, entre un mari et sa femme, entre un père et sa fille, lorsqu’elle est jeune encore et dans la maison de son père.
These [are] the statutes which Jehovah hath commanded Moses between a man and his wife, between a father and his daughter, in her youth, [in] the house of her father.
