Jérémie 42
1 Alors tous les chefs de troupes, ainsi que Johanan, fils de Carée, Jezonias, fils d’Osaïas, et tout le peuple, petits et grands, s’approchèrent
And they come nigh — all the heads of the forces, and Johanan son of Kareah, and Jezaniah son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest —
2 et dirent à Jérémie, le prophète: « Que notre supplication arrive devant toi; intercède pour nous auprès de Yahweh, ton Dieu, pour tout ce reste de Juda; car, de beaucoup que nous étions, nous sommes réduits à un petit nombre, comme tes yeux nous voient.
and they say unto Jeremiah the prophet, 'Let, we pray thee, our supplication fall before thee, and pray for us unto Jehovah thy God, for all this remnant; for we have been left a few out of many, as thine eyes do see us;
3 Que Yahweh, ton Dieu, nous indique le chemin que nous devons suivre, et ce que nous avons à faire. »
and Jehovah thy God doth declare to us the way in which we walk, and the thing that we do.'
4 Jérémie, le prophète, leur répondit: « J’ai entendu; voici que je vais prier Yahweh, votre Dieu, selon vos paroles, et tout ce que Yahweh vous répondra, je vous le ferai connaître, sans rien vous cacher. »
And Jeremiah the prophet saith unto them, 'I have heard: lo, I am praying unto Jehovah your God according to your words, and it hath come to pass, the whole word that Jehovah answereth you, I declare to you — I do not withhold from you a word.'
5 Ils dirent à Jérémie: « Que Yahweh soit un témoin véridique et fidèle contre nous, si nous n’agissons pas en tout selon la parole que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’aura envoyé nous communiquer.
And they have said to Jeremiah, 'Jehovah is against us for a witness true and faithful, if — according to all the word with which Jehovah thy God doth send thee unto us — we do not so.
6 Que ce soit du bien ou du mal, nous obéirons à la voix de Yahweh, notre Dieu, vers qui nous t’envoyons, afin qu’il nous arrive du bien, en obéissant à la voix de Yahweh, notre Dieu. »
Whether good or evil, to the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we are sending thee, we do hearken; because it is good for us when we hearken to the voice of Jehovah our God.'
7 Et au bout de dix jours, la parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Jérémie,
And it cometh to pass, at the end of ten days, that there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah,
8 Et il appela Johanan, fils de Carée, tous les chefs des troupes qui étaient avec lui, et tout le peuple, petits et grands;
and he calleth unto Johanan son of Kareah, and unto all the heads of the forces that [are] with him, and to all the people, from the least even unto the greatest,
9 et il leur dit: Ainsi, parle Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël, vers qui vous m’avez envoyé pour présenter devant lui votre supplication:
and he saith unto them, 'Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me, to cause your supplication to fall before Him:
10 Si vous continuez à demeurer dans ce pays, je vous établirai et ne vous détruirai point, je vous planterai et ne vous arracherai point; car je me repens du mal que je vous ai fait.
'If ye do certainly dwell in this land, then I have builded you up, and I throw not down; and I have planted you, and I pluck not up; for I have repented concerning the evil that I have done to you.
11 Ne craignez pas le roi de Babylone, dont vous avez peur; ne le craignez point, — oracle de Yahweh, — car je suis avec vous pour vous sauver et vous délivrer de sa main.
Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, whom ye are afraid of; be not afraid of him — an affirmation of Jehovah — for with you [am] I, to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
12 Je vous ferai obtenir compassion, et il aura compassion de vous, et il vous fera retourner dans votre pays.
And I give to you mercies, and he hath pitied you, and caused you to turn back unto your own ground.
13 Que si vous dites: Nous ne demeurerons pas dans ce pays, de telle sorte que vous n’obéissiez pas à la voix de Yahweh, votre Dieu;
'And if ye are saying, We do not dwell in this land — not to hearken to the voice of Jehovah your God,
14 si vous dites: Non! mais nous irons au pays d’Égypte, où nous ne verrons pas de guerre, où nous n’entendrons pas le son de la trompette, où nous ne sentirons pas la faim, et c’est là que nous habiterons, —
saying, No; but the land of Egypt we enter, that we see no war, and the sound of a trumpet do not hear, and for bread be not hungry; and there do we dwell.
15 alors entendez la parole de Yahweh, vous, les restes de Juda: Ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Si vous tournez vos regards vers l’Égypte pour y aller, et que vous y entriez pour y habiter,
And now, therefore, hear ye a word of Jehovah, O remnant of Judah: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: If ye really set your faces to enter Egypt, and have gone in to sojourn there,
16 l’épée que vous craignez vous atteindra là, au pays d’Égypte, et la famine que vous redoutez s’attachera à vous là, en Égypte; et là vous mourrez.
then it hath come to pass, the sword that ye are afraid of, doth there overtake you, in the land of Egypt; and the hunger, because of which ye are sorrowful, doth there cleave after you in Egypt, and there ye die.
17 Tous ceux qui auront tourné leurs regards vers l’Égypte pour y aller et pour y habiter mourront par l’épée, par la famine et la peste, et il n’y en aura pas parmi eux qui survive et qui échappe au mal que je ferai venir sur eux.
'Thus are all the men who have set their faces to enter Egypt to sojourn there; they die — by sword, by hunger, and by pestilence, and there is not to them a remnant and an escaped one, because of the evil that I am bringing in upon them;
18 Car ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Comme ma colère et ma fureur ont fondu sur les habitants de Jérusalem, ainsi ma fureur fondra sur vous quand vous serez entrés en Égypte; vous serez un objet d’exécration, de stupéfaction, de malédiction et d’outrages, et vous ne reverrez plus ce lieu-ci.
for thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel: As poured out hath been Mine anger and My fury on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so poured out is My fury upon you in your entering Egypt, and ye have been for an execration, and for an astonishment, and for a reviling, and for a reproach, and ye do not see any more this place.
19 Restes de Juda, Yahweh vous dit: N’entrez pas en Égypte; sachez bien que je vous avertis solennellement aujourd’hui.
'Jehovah hath spoken against you, O remnant of Judah, do not enter Egypt: know certainly that I have testified against you to-day;
20 Car vous vous abusiez vous-mêmes, lorsque vous m’avez envoyé vers Yahweh, notre Dieu, en disant: Intercède pour nous auprès de Yahweh, notre Dieu, et tout ce que Yahweh, notre Dieu, dira, déclare-le-nous, et nous le ferons.
for ye have shewed yourselves perverse in your souls, for ye sent me unto Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us unto Jehovah our God, and according to all that Jehovah our God saith, so declare to us, and we have done [it];
21 Je vous l’ai déclaré aujourd’hui; mais vous n’avez pas écouté la voix de Yahweh, votre Dieu, ni rien de ce qu’il m’a envoyé vous communiquer.
and I declare to you to-day, and ye have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah your God, and to anything with which He hath sent me unto you.
22 Sachez donc bien maintenant que vous mourrez par l’épée, par la famine et par la peste, au lieu où il vous a plu d’aller pour y habiter. »
And now, know ye certainly that by sword, by famine, and by pestilence ye die, in the place that ye have desired to go in to sojourn there.'
