Jérémie 16
1 La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:
And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:
2 Tu ne prendras pas de femme, et tu n’auras pas de fils ni de filles en ce lieu.
Thou shall not take to thee a wife, —Neither shalt thou have sons or daughters, in this place.
3 Car ainsi parle Yahweh touchant les fils et les filles qui naissent en ce lieu, et touchant les mères qui les enfantent, et touchant les pères qui les engendrent, en ce pays:
For, Thus, saith Yahweh, Concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are being born in this place, —and concerning their mothers who do bear them, and concerning their fathers who do beget them, in this land,
4 Ils mourront de maladies mortelles; on ne leur donnera ni larmes ni sépulture; ils seront comme du fumier sur le sol. Ils périront par l’épée et la famine, et leurs cadavres seront la pâture des oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes de la terre.
Of deaths from diseases, shall they die, They shall not be lamented, Neither shall they be buried, As heaps of dung on the face of the ground, shall they serve, —Yea by sword and by famine, shall they be consumed, And, their dead bodies shall become, food—To the bird of the heavens, and To the beast of the earth.
5 Car ainsi parle Yahweh: N’entre pas dans la maison de deuil; ne va pas pleurer et te lamenter avec eux; car j’ai retiré ma paix à ce peuple, — oracle de Yahweh, ma grâce et ma compassion.
For, Thus, saith Yahweh—Do not thou enter into the house of crying, Neither do thou go to lament, nor do thou bemoan for them, —For I have withdrawn my blessing from this people, Declareth Yahweh, Both lovingkindness and compassion.
6 Grands et petits mourront dans ce pays; ils n’y aura pour eux ni sépulture ni larmes; on ne se fera pas d’incisions, on ne se rasera pas pour eux.
So shall great and small die in this land, They shall not be buried, —Neither shall men lament for them Nor cut themselves, Nor make themselves bald for them;
7 On ne leur rompra pas le pain du deuil, pour les consoler au sujet d’un mort, et on ne leur fera pas boire la coupe de consolation, pour un père et pour une mère.
Neither shall they break bread to them in mourning To console one over his dead, —Nor cause them to drink the cup of consolation, Over one’s father Or over one’s mother;
8 Ne va pas dans la maison du festin pour t’asseoir avec eux, pour manger et pour boire.
And the house of banqueting, shall thou not enter To sit with them, To eat and to drink.
9 Car ainsi parle Yahweh des armées, Dieu d’Israël: Je vais faire cesser en ce lieu, sous vos yeux et de vos jours, le cri de joie et le cri d’allégresse, le chant du fiancé et le chant de la fiancée.
For, Thus, saith Yahweh of hosts, God of Israel, Behold me! causing to cease out of this place, Before your eyes, And in your days, The voice of joy, and the voice of gladness, The voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride,
10 Lorsque tu annonceras à ce peuple toutes ces choses, ils te diront: « Pourquoi Yahweh nous annonce-t-il tous ces grands malheurs? Quelle est notre iniquité, et quel est notre péché que nous avons commis contre Yahweh, notre Dieu? »
And it shall be when thou shalt declare to this people, all these words, —and they shall say unto thee—For what reason, hath Yahweh pronounced against us all this great calamity? Or what is our iniquity, or what our sin, which we have sinned against Yahweh our God?
11 Et tu leur diras: « C’est que vos pères m’ont abandonné, — oracle de Yahweh; et qu’ils sont allés après d’autres dieux, qu’ils les ont servis, et adorés, et que moi, ils m’ont abandonné, et qu’ils n’ont pas observé ma loi.
Then shalt thou say unto them, —For that your fathers forsook, me, Declareth Yahweh, And walked after other gods, and served them, and bowed down to them, —Whereas me, they forsook And my law, kept they not;
12 Et vous, vous avez fait le mal plus que vos pères, et voici que vous allez chacun après la perversité de votre mauvais cœur, pour ne pas m’écouter.
And, ye, have done more wickedly than your fathers, —for look at you! walking every man after the stubbornness of his wicked heart, so as not to hearken unto me,
13 Je vous jetterai hors de ce pays dans un pays que vous n’aurez pas connu, ni vous, ni vos pères, et là vous servirez les dieux étrangers, la nuit et le jour; car je ne vous ferai pas grâce. »
Therefore will I hurl you forth, from off this land, unto a land which ye have not known, ye, nor your fathers, —and ye can serve there other gods day and night, in that I will grant you no favour.
14 C’est pourquoi voici que des jours viennent, — oracle de Yahweh, où l’on ne dira plus: « Yahweh est vivant, lui qui a fait monter les enfants d’Israël du pays d’Égypte; »
Therefore lo! days are coming, Declareth Yahweh, When it shall be said no more By the life of Yahweh, who brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of Egypt; but—
15 mais: « Yahweh est vivant, lui qui a fait monter les enfants d’Israël du pays du septentrion, et de tous les pays où il les avait chassés. » Et je les ramènerai dans leur pays que j’avais donné à leurs pères.
By the life of Yahweh, who hath brought up the sons of Israel out of the land of the North, and out of all the lands whither he had driven them, —So will I bring them back upon their own soil, which I gave to their fathers.
16 Voici que j’appelle en foule des pêcheurs, — oracle de Yahweh, — et ils les pêcheront. Et après cela, j’appellerai en foule des chasseurs, et ils les chasseront de toute montagne, et de toute colline, et des fentes des rochers.
Behold me! sending for many fishers Declareth Yahweh, And they shall catch them, —and thereafter will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from off every mountain and from off every hill, and out of the clefts of the crags.
17 Car mes yeux sont sur toutes leurs voies; elles ne sont pas cachées devant ma face et leur iniquité ne se dérobe pas à mes regards.
For mine own eyes are upon all their ways, they have not been hid from my face—neither hath their iniquity been concealed from being straight before mine eyes.
18 Tout d’abord je leur paierai au double leur iniquité et leur péché, parce qu’ils ont profané mon pays; des cadavres de leurs idoles et de leurs abominations ils ont rempli mon héritage.
Thus will I recompense, first, twofold, their iniquity and their sin, because of their profaning my land, —with the carcase of their disgusting and detestable things, have they filled mine inheritance.
19 Yahweh, ma force, mon rempart et mon refuge au jour de la détresse, les nations viendront à toi des extrémités de la terre et diront: Nos pères n’ont eu en héritage que le mensonge, des vanités qui ne servent à rien.
O Yahweh, my strength, and my refuge, and my place to fly to, in the day of distress, —Unto thee, shall nations come in, out of the ends of the earth, that they may say—Surely! Falsehood, did our fathers inherit, Vanity, among whom is none that can profit:
20 Se peut-il qu’un homme se fasse des dieux? Et ce ne sont pas des dieux!
Shall a son of earth, make for himself gods, Seeing that, they, are no-gods?
21 C’est pourquoi voici que je vais leur faire connaître, cette fois-ci, je vais leur faire connaître ma main et ma puissance, et ils sauront que mon nom est Yahweh.
Therefore behold me! causing them to know, by this stroke, I will cause them to know my hand and my might, —That they may know that my name, is Yahweh!
