Isaïe 44
1 Et maintenant, écoute, Jacob, mon serviteur, et toi, Israël, que j’ai choisi.
Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen:
2 Ainsi parle Yahweh, qui t’a fait, qui t’a formé dès le sein de ta mère, et secouru: Ne crains point, Jacob, mon serviteur, mon Israël, que j’ai choisi!
Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, [who] will help thee: Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.
3 Car je répandrai des eaux sur le sol altéré, et des ruisseaux sur la terre desséchée. Je répandrai mon esprit sur ta postérité, et ma bénédiction sur tes rejetons.
For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thy offspring:
4 Et ils croîtront parmi la verdure, comme les saules le long des eaux courantes.
And they shall spring up [as] among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.
5 Celui-ci dira: « Je suis à Yahweh! » celui-ci se réclamera du nom de Jacob; un autre écrira sur sa main: « A Yahweh! » et il prendra pour surnom le nom d’Israël.
One shall say, I [am] the LORD'S; and another shall call [himself] by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe [with] his hand to the LORD, and surname [himself] by the name of Israel.
6 Ainsi parle Yahweh, le roi d’Israël et son rédempteur, Yahweh des armées: Je suis le premier et je suis le dernier, et il n’y a pas de Dieu en dehors de moi!
Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I [am] the first, and I [am] the last; and besides me [there is] no God.
7 Qui est comme moi, — qu’il parle, qu’il le déclare, qu’il me le montre! — depuis que j’ai fondé l’humanité des jours antiques? Qu’ils annoncent donc l’avenir et ce qui doit arriver!
And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them show to them.
8 Ne soyez pas effrayés et ne craignez point! Ne te l’ai-je pas dès longtemps fait connaître et annoncé? — vous m’en êtes témoins! Y a-t-il un Dieu en dehors de moi? Il n’y a pas d’autre Rocher; je n’en connais point.
Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared [it]? ye [are] even my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? verily [there is] no God; I know not [any].
9 Les fabricateurs d’idoles ne sont tous que néant, et leurs chefs-d’œuvre ne servent à rien; leurs témoins, eux, ne voient rien ni ne comprennent rien, pour leur honte.
They that make a graven image [are] all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they [are] their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.
10 Qui a formé un dieu, qui a fondu une idole, pour n’en retirer aucune utilité?
Who hath formed a god, or cast a graven image [that] is profitable for nothing?
11 Voici que tous ses adorateurs seront confondus; et les ouvriers ne sont que des hommes! Qu’ils s’assemblent tous, qu’ils se présentent!... Ils trembleront et seront confondus tous ensemble.
Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they [are] of men: let them all be assembled, let them stand up; [yet] they shall fear, [and] they shall be ashamed together.
12 L’ouvrier en fer travaille avec le ciseau, il passe son œuvre dans les charbons embrasés, il la façonne avec le marteau; il la travaille d’un bras vigoureux. Cependant, il a faim, et le voilà sans force; il ne boit pas d’eau, et le voilà épuisé!
The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yes, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.
13 L’ouvrier en bois tend le cordeau, il trace la forme au crayon, la façonne avec le ciseau, la mesure au compas; il en fait une figure d’homme, la belle figure humaine, pour qu’elle loge dans une maison.
The carpenter stretcheth out [his] rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
14 Un homme va couper des cèdres; il prend des rouvres et des chênes; il fait un choix parmi les arbres de la forêt; ou bien il plante des cèdres, et la pluie les fait croître.
He heweth down cedars for himself, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish [it].
15 Ce bois sert à l’homme pour brûler; il en prend pour se chauffer; il en allume aussi pour cuire son pain; il en fait aussi un dieu et il l’adore; il en fabrique une idole, et il se prosterne devant elle!
Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take of it, and warm himself; indeed he kindleth [it], and baketh bread; yes, he maketh a god, and worshipeth [it]; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down to it.
16 Il en a brûlé au feu la moitié; avec l’autre moitié, il apprête sa viande; il cuit son rôti et se rassasie. Il se chauffe aussi et il dit: « Ah! Ah! Je me réchauffe; je sens la flamme! »
He burneth part of it in the fire; with part of it he eateth flesh; he roasteth meat, and is satisfied: yes, he warmeth [himself], and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:
17 De ce qui en reste, il fait son dieu, son idole, qu’il adore en se prosternant, devant laquelle il prie, en disant: « Délivre-moi, car tu es mon Dieu! »
And the residue of it he maketh a god, [even] his graven image: he falleth down to it, and worshipeth [it], and prayeth to it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou [art] my god.
18 Ils ne savent pas, ils n’entendent pas, car leurs yeux sont couverts pour ne pas voir, et leurs cœurs pour ne pas comprendre.
They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; [and] their hearts, that they cannot understand.
19 Et il ne rentre pas en soi-même; il n’a pas l’intelligence et le bon sens de se dire: « J’en ai brûlé la moitié au feu; j’ai aussi cuit du pain sur les braises; j’ai rôti de la viande et je l’ai mangée; et avec le reste je ferais une abomination, je me prosternerais devant un tronc d’arbre! »
And none considereth in his heart, neither [is there] knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; I have also baked bread upon its coals; I have roasted flesh, and eaten [it]: and shall I make the residue of it an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?
20 Il se repaît de cendres; son cœur abusé l’égare. Il ne sauvera pas son âme et ne dira pas: « Ce qui est dans ma main n’est-il pas mensonge? »
He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, [Is there] not a lie in my right hand?
21 Souviens-toi de ces choses, ô Jacob, ô Israël, car tu es mon serviteur; je t’ai formé pour mon serviteur, ô Israël, tu ne seras pas oublié de moi!
Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou [art] my servant: I have formed thee; thou [art] my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten by me.
22 J’ai effacé tes transgressions comme un nuage; et tes péchés comme une nuée: reviens à moi, car je t’ai racheté.
I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and as a cloud, thy sins: return to me; for I have redeemed thee.
23 Cieux, poussez des cris de joie, car Yahweh a fait cela! Retentissez, profondeurs de la terre! Eclatez de joie, montagnes, forêts, avec tous vos arbres; car Yahweh a racheté Jacob, et manifesté sa gloire en Israël!
Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done [it]: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.
24 Ainsi parle Yahweh, ton rédempteur, qui t’a formé dès le sein de ta mère: C’est moi, Yahweh, qui ai fait toutes choses, moi qui seul ai déployé les cieux, affermi la terre: qui était avec moi?
Thus saith the LORD thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, [I am] the LORD that maketh all [things]; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself:
25 Je déjoue les présages des prophètes de mensonge, et fais délirer les devins; je fais reculer les sages, et change leur science en folie.
That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise [men] backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;
26 J’accomplis la parole de mon serviteur, et j’exécute le conseil de mes envoyés; je dis de Jérusalem: « Qu’elle soit habitée! » et des villes de Juda: « Qu’elles soient rebâties! je relèverai leurs ruines. »
That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up her decayed places:
27 Je dis à l’abîme: « Taris! je dessécherai tes fleuves. »
That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers:
28 Je dis de Cyrus: « C’est mon berger; il accomplira toute ma volonté, en disant à Jérusalem: Sois rebâtie! et au temple: Sois fondé! »
That saith of Cyrus, [He is] my shepherd, and [he] shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
