Isaïe 34
1 Approchez, nations, pour entendre; peuples, soyez attentifs! Que la terre entende, elle et ce qu’elle renferme, le monde et tout ce qu’il produit.
Draw near, you nations; and listen, you princes; let the earth hear, and they that are in it; the world, and the people that are therein.
2 Car Yahweh est courroucé contre toutes les nations, et en fureur contre toute leur armée; il les a vouées, livrées au carnage.
For the wrath of the Lord is upon all nations, and [his] anger upon the number of them, to destroy them, and give them up to slaughter.
3 Leurs morts seront jetés sans sépulture, leurs cadavres exhaleront l’infection, et les montagnes se fondront dans leur sang.
And their slain shall be cast forth, and their corpses; and their [ill] savour shall come up, and the mountains shall be made wet with their blood.
4 Toute l’armée des cieux sera réduite en poussière; les cieux seront roulés comme un livre, et toute leur armée tombera, comme tombe la feuille de la vigne, comme tombe celle du figuier.
And all the powers of the heavens shall melt, and the sky shall be rolled up like a scroll: and all the stars shall fall like leaves from a vine, and as leaves fall from a fig tree.
5 « Car mon épée s’est enivrée dans les cieux, et voici qu’elle descend sur Edom, sur le peuple que j’ai voué à l’anathème, pour le juger.
My sword has been made drunk in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and with judgement upon the people doomed to destruction.
6 L’épée de Yahweh est pleine de sang. ruisselante de graisse, du sang des agneaux et des boucs, de la graisse des reins des béliers. Car Yahweh fait un sacrifice à Bosra, et un grand carnage au pays d’Edom.
The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is glutted with fat, with the blood of goats and lambs, and with the fat of goats and rams: for the Lord has a sacrifice in Bosor, and a great slaughter in Idumea.
7 Avec eux tombent les buffles, et les bœufs avec les taureaux. Leur terre s’enivre de sang, et leur poussière ruisselle de graisse.
And the mighty ones shall fall with them, and the rams and the bulls; and the land shall be soaked with blood, and shall be filled with their fat.
8 Car c’est un jour de vengeance pour Yahweh, une année de revanche pour la cause de Sion.
For it is the day of judgement of the Lord, and the year of the recompence of Sion in judgement.
9 Ses torrents seront changés en poix, et sa poussière en soufre, et sa terre deviendra de la poix brûlante,
And her valleys shall be turned into pitch, and her land into sulphur; and her land shall be as pitch burning night and day;
10 qui ne s’éteindra ni la nuit ni le jour, dont la fumée montera éternellement. D’âge en âge elle restera désolée; à tout jamais personne n’y passera.
and it shall never be quenched, and her smoke shall go up: it shall be made desolate throughout her generations,
11 Le pélican et le hérisson la posséderont; la chouette et le corbeau y habiteront. Et il étendra sur elle le cordeau du chaos et le niveau du vide.
and for a long time birds and hedgehogs, and ibises and ravens shall dwell in it: and the measuring line of desolation shall be cast over it, and satyrs shall dwell in it.
12 Il n’y aura plus de grands pour proclamer un roi, et tous ses princes seront anéantis.
Her princes shall be no more; for her kings and her great men shall be destroyed.
13 Les épines pousseront dans ses palais, les ronces et les chardons dans ses forteresses. Ce sera un repaire de chacals, et un parc pour les autruches.
And thorns shall spring up in their cities, and in her strong holds: and they shall be habitations of monsters, and a court of ostriches.
14 Les chats et les chiens sauvages s’y rencontreront, et les satyres s’y appelleront les uns les autres. Là aussi le spectre des nuits fera sa demeure, et trouvera son lieu de repos.
And devils shall meet with satyrs, and they shall cry one to the other: there shall satyrs rest, having found for themselves [a place of] rest.
15 Là le serpent fera son nid et pondra, couvera et réunira ses petits sous son ombre. Là aussi se rassembleront tous les vautours.
There has the hedgehog made its nest, and the earth has safely preserved its young: there have the deer met, and seen one another's faces.
16 Cherchez dans le livre de Yahweh, et lisez: Pas un d’eux ne manque, ni l’un ni l’autre ne fait défaut. Car c’est la bouche de Yahweh qui l’a ordonné, et son souffle qui les a rassemblés.
They passed by in [full] number, and not one of them perished: they sought not one another; for the Lord commanded them, and his Spirit gathered them.
17 C’est lui qui a jeté le sort pour eux, et sa main qui leur a partagé le pays au cordeau; à jamais ils le posséderont, d’âge en âge ils y habiteront.
And he shall cast lots for them, and his hand has portioned out [their] pasture, [saying], You shall inherit [the land] for ever: they shall rest on it [through] all generations.
