Ézéchiel 17
1 La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:
And the worde of the Lord came vnto mee, saying,
2 « Fils de l’homme, propose une énigme et raconte une parabole à la maison d’Israël,
Sonne of man, put foorth a parable and speake a prouerbe vnto the house of Israel,
3 et dis: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Le grand aigle, aux grandes ailes, à la large envergure, et couvert d’un plumage aux couleurs variées, vint vers le Liban et enleva la cime du cèdre.
And say, Thus saith the Lord God, The great eagle with great wings, and long wings, and ful of fethers, which had diuers colours, came vnto Lebanon, and tooke the highest branch of the cedar,
4 Il arracha le plus élevé de ses rameaux, l’emporta dans un pays de Canaan et le plaça dans une ville de marchands.
And brake off the toppe of his twigge, and caried it into the land of marchants, and set it in a citie of marchants.
5 Puis il prit du plant du pays et le plaça dans un sol fertile; il le mit près d’une eau abondante et le planta comme un saule.
Hee tooke also of the seede of the lande, and planted it in a fruitfull ground: hee placed it by great waters, and set it as a willowe tree.
6 Ce rejeton poussa et devint un cep de vigne étendu, peu élevé; ses rameaux étaient tournés vers l’aigle et ses racines étaient sous lui; il devint un cep, donna des jets et poussa des branches.
And it budded vp, and was like a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward it, and the rootes thereof were vnder it: so it became a vine, and it brought foorth branches, and shot foorth buds.
7 Il y avait un autre grand aigle, aux grandes ailes, au plumage abondant; et voici que cette vigne étendit avidement ses racines vers lui, et que, du parterre où elle était plantée, elle poussa vers lui ses rameaux pour qu’il l’arrosât.
There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers, and beholde, this vine did turne her rootes toward it, and spred foorth her branches toward it, that she might water it by the trenches of her plantation.
8 Elle était plantée dans une bonne terre, auprès d’eaux abondantes, de manière à pousser du feuillage et à porter du fruit, pour devenir une vigne magnifique.
It was planted in a good soyle by great waters, that it should bring forth branches, and beare fruite, and be an excellent vine.
9 Dis: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Prospérera-t-elle? N’arrachera-t-on pas ses racines et n’abattra-t-on pas son fruit pour qu’elle sèche? Toutes les jeunes feuilles qu’elle poussait se dessécheront. Il ne faudra ni un bras puissant ni beaucoup de gens pour l’enlever de ses racines.
Say thou, Thus saith the Lord God, Shall it prosper? shall he not pull vp the rootes thereof, and destroy the fruite thereof, and cause them to drie? all the leaues of her bud shall wither without great power, or many people, to plucke it vp by the rootes thereof.
10 Et voici qu’elle est plantée; mais prospérera-t-elle? Dès que le vent d’Orient l’aura touchée, ne séchera-t-elle pas? Dans le parterre où elle a poussé, elle séchera. »
Beholde, it was planted: but shall it prosper? shall it not be dried vp, and wither? when the East winde shall touch it, it shall wither in the trenches, where it grewe.
11 La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:
Moreouer, the worde of the Lord came vnto me, saying,
12 « Dis donc à la maison rebelle: Ne savez-vous pas ce que cela signifie? Dis: Voici que le roi de Babylone est allé à Jérusalem, qu’il a pris son roi et ses chefs et les a fait venir auprès de lui à Babylone.
Say now to this rebellious house, Know ye not, what these things meane? tell them, Behold, the King of Babel is come to Ierusalem, and hath taken the King thereof, and the princes thereof, and led them with him to Babel,
13 Puis il a pris un homme de la race royale, il a conclu une alliance avec lui et lui a fait prêter serment. Il avait pris les hommes puissants du pays,
And hath taken one of the Kings seede, and made a couenant with him, and hath taken an othe of him: he hath also taken the princes of the land,
14 pour que le royaume fût dans l’abaissement, sans pouvoir s’élever, observant son alliance pour subsister.
That the kingdome might be in subiection, and not lift it selfe vp, but keepe their couenant, and stand to it.
15 Mais il s’est révolté contre lui, envoyant ses messagers en Égypte pour qu’on lui donnât des chevaux et beaucoup d’hommes. Réussira-t-il? Echappera-t-il, celui qui fait de telles choses? Il a rompu l’alliance, et il échapperait!
But he rebelled against him, and sent his ambassadours into Egypt, that they might giue him horses, and much people: shall hee prosper? shall he escape, that doeth such things? or shall he breake the couenant, and be deliuered?
16 Je suis vivant, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh: C’est dans la ville du roi qui l’a fait régner, dont il a méprisé le serment et dont il a rompu l’alliance, c’est chez lui, dans Babylone, qu’il mourra.
As I liue, saith the Lord God, he shall die in the middes of Babel, in the place of the King, that had made him King, whose othe he despised, and whose couenant made with him, he brake.
17 Et le pharaon n’agira pas pour lui, dans la guerre, avec une grande armée et un peuple nombreux, quand on élèvera des terrasses et qu’on construira des murs pour faire périr beaucoup d’hommes!
Neither shall Pharaoh with his mightie hoste, and great multitude of people, mainteine him in the warre, when they haue cast vp mounts, and builded ramparts to destroy many persons.
18 Il a méprisé le serment en rompant l’alliance, et voilà qu’il avait donné sa main! Il a fait tout cela, il n’échappera pas.
For he hath despised the othe, and broken ye couenant (yet lo, he had giuen his hand) because he hath done all these things, he shall not escape.
19 C’est pourquoi ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Je suis vivant: c’est mon serment qu’il a méprisé, et mon alliance qu’il a rompue; je ferai retomber cela sur sa tête.
Therefore, thus sayth the Lord God, As I liue, I wil surely bring mine othe that he hath despised, and my couenant that he hath broken vpon his owne head.
20 J’étendrai sur lui mon rets, et il sera pris dans mon filet; je le ferai venir à Babylone, et là je le mettrai en cause pour sa perfidie qu’il a montrée envers moi.
And I wil spread my net vpon him, and he shalbe taken in my net, and I wil bring him to Babel, and will enter into iudgement with him there for his trespas that he hath committed against me.
21 Tous ses fuyards de toutes ses troupes tomberont par l’épée, et ceux qui resteront seront dispersés à tout vent; et vous saurez que moi, Yahweh, j’ai parlé.
And all that flee from him with all his hoste, shall fall by the sword, and they that remaine, shalbe scattered towarde all the windes: and ye shall know that I the Lord haue spoken it.
22 Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Je prendrai, moi, un rameau de la cime du cèdre élevé et je le placerai; de l’extrémité de ses branches je couperai un tendre rameau, et je le planterai sur une montagne haute et élevée.
Thus saith the Lord God, I wil also take off the top of this hie cedar, and wil set it, and cut off the top of the tender plant thereof, and I wil plant it vpon an hie mountaine and great.
23 Je le planterai sur la haute montagne d’Israël; il poussera des branches et portera du fruit, et il deviendra un cèdre majestueux; tout passereau, tout oiseau habitera sous lui; ils habiteront à l’ombre de ses rameaux.
Euen in the hie mountaine of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughes and beare fruite, and be an excellent cedar, and vnder it shall remaine all birds, and euery foule shall dwell in the shadow of the branches thereof.
24 Et tous les arbres des champs sauront que moi, Yahweh, j’ai abaissé l’arbre qui était élevé, et élevé l’arbre qui était abaissé, que j’ai fait sécher l’arbre vert et fait verdir l’arbre sec. Moi, Yahweh, j’ai parlé et j’agirai. »
And all the trees of the fielde shall knowe that I the Lord haue brought downe the hie tree, and exalted the lowe tree, that I haue dried vp the greene tree, and made the drie tree to florish: I the Lord haue spoken it, and haue done it.
