Ézéchiel 14
1 Quelques-uns des anciens d’Israël vinrent auprès de moi et s’assirent devant moi.
Then some of the elders of Israel came and sat down before me.
2 Et la parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
3 « Fils de l’homme, ces gens-là ont dressé dans leur cœur leurs infâmes idoles, et ils mettent devant leur face le scandale qui les fait pécher: me laisserai-je interroger par eux?
“Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I consult with them in any way?
4 C’est pourquoi parle-leur et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Quiconque de la maison d’Israël dresse en son cœur ses infâmes idoles et met devant sa face le scandale qui le fait pécher, s’il vient vers le prophète, moi, Yahweh, je lui répondrai par moi-même, comme le mérite la multitude de ses idoles,
Therefore speak to them and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet, I the LORD will answer him according to his great idolatry,
5 afin de prendre la maison d’Israël par son propre cœur, elle qui, avec toutes ses idoles infâmes, s’est détournée de moi.
so that I may take hold of the hearts of the people of Israel. For because of their idols, they are all estranged from Me.’
6 C’est pourquoi dis à la maison d’Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Revenez et détournez-vous de vos idoles infâmes, et détournez votre face de toutes vos abominations.
Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Repent and turn away from your idols; turn your faces away from all your abominations.
7 Car quiconque de la maison d’Israël ou des étrangers séjournant en Israël se détourne de moi, dresse dans son cœur ses infâmes idoles et met devant sa face le scandale qui le fait pécher, s’il vient vers le prophète afin qu’il m’interroge pour lui, moi Yahweh je lui répondrai moi-même.
For when any Israelite or any foreigner dwelling in Israel separates himself from Me, sets up idols in his heart, and puts a wicked stumbling block before his face, and then comes to the prophet to inquire of Me, I the LORD will answer him Myself.
8 Je dirigerai ma face contre cet homme, je le détruirai pour faire de lui un signe et un proverbe; je le retrancherai du milieu de mon peuple, et vous saurez que je suis Yahweh.
I will set My face against that man and make him a sign and a proverb; I will cut him off from among My people. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
9 Et si le prophète se laisse séduire et qu’il prononce quelque parole, c’est moi, Yahweh, qui aurai séduit ce prophète; et j’étendrai ma main sur lui, et je l’exterminerai du milieu de mon peuple d’Israël.
But if the prophet is enticed to speak a message, then it was I the LORD who enticed him, and I will stretch out My hand against him and destroy him from among My people Israel.
10 Ils porteront ainsi la peine de leur iniquité, — telle l’iniquité de celui qui interroge, telle l’iniquité du prophète, —
They will bear their punishment—the punishment of the inquirer will be the same as that of the prophet—
11 afin que la maison d’Israël ne s’égare plus loin de moi, et qu’elle ne se souille plus par toutes ses transgressions. Alors ils seront mon peuple, et moi je serai leur Dieu, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh. »
in order that the house of Israel may no longer stray from Me and no longer defile themselves with all their transgressions. Then they will be My people and I will be their God, declares the Lord GOD.’”
12 La parole de Yahweh me fut adressée en ces termes:
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
13 « Fils de l’homme, si un pays péchait contre moi par révolte, et si j’étendais ma main sur lui en brisant pour lui le bâton du pain, et si je lui envoyais la famine, en exterminant hommes et bêtes,
“Son of man, if a land sins against Me by acting unfaithfully, and I stretch out My hand against it to cut off its supply of food, to send famine upon it, and to cut off from it both man and beast,
14 et qu’il y eut ces trois hommes au milieu de ce pays, Noé, Daniel et Job, ... eux sauveraient leur âme par leur justice, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh.
then even if these three men—Noah, Daniel, and Job—were in it, their righteousness could deliver only themselves, declares the Lord GOD.
15 Si je faisais passer dans le pays des bêtes malfaisantes, et qu’il fût dépeuplé, et qu’il devint un désert où personne ne passerait à cause des bêtes,
Or if I send wild beasts through the land to leave it childless and desolate, with no man passing through it for fear of the beasts,
16 et qu’il y eût ces trois hommes au milieu de ce pays, je suis vivant, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh: Ils ne sauveraient ni fils ni filles; eux seuls seraient sauvés, mais le pays serait dévasté.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be desolate.
17 Ou si je faisais venir l’épée sur ce pays, et que je dise: Que l’épée passe sur le pays!... en exterminant hommes et bêtes,
Or if I bring a sword against that land and say, ‘Let a sword pass through it,’ so that I cut off from it both man and beast,
18 et qu’il y eût ces trois hommes au milieu de ce pays, je suis vivant, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh: Ils ne sauveraient ni fils, ni filles; eux seuls seraient sauvés.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if these three men were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. They alone would be delivered.
19 Ou si j’envoyais la peste sur ce pays, et que je répandisse sur lui mon courroux dans le sang, en exterminant hommes et bêtes,
Or if I send a plague into that land and pour out My wrath upon it through bloodshed, cutting off from it both man and beast,
20 et que Noé, Daniel et Job fussent au milieu de ce pays, je suis vivant, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh: Ils ne sauveraient ni fils, ni filles, mais eux sauveraient leur âme par leur justice.
then as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, they could not deliver their own sons or daughters. Their righteousness could deliver only themselves.
21 Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh: Même quand j’aurai envoyé contre Jérusalem mes quatre châtiments terribles, l’épée, la famine, les bêtes malfaisantes et la peste, en exterminant hommes et bêtes,
For this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘How much worse will it be when I send against Jerusalem My four dire judgments—sword, famine, wild beasts, and plague—in order to cut off from it both man and beast?
22 voici qu’il y aura un reste qui échappera, qui sortira de la ville, des fils et des filles. Voici qu’ils viendront vers vous; vous verrez leur conduite et leurs œuvres, et vous vous consolerez du mal que j’aurai fait venir sur Jérusalem, de tout ce que j’aurai fait venir sur elle.
Yet, behold, some survivors will be left in it—sons and daughters who will be brought out. They will come out to you, and when you see their conduct and actions, you will be comforted regarding the disaster I have brought upon Jerusalem—all that I have brought upon it.
23 Ils vous consoleront, quand vous verrez leur conduite et leurs œuvres, et vous saurez que ce n’est pas sans cause que j’aurai fait tout ce que je lui aurai fait, — oracle du Seigneur Yahweh. »
They will bring you consolation when you see their conduct and actions, and you will know that it was not without cause that I have done all these things within it,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
