Éphésiens 6
1 Enfants, obéissez à vos parents dans le Seigneur, car cela est juste.
Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 « Honore ton père et ta mère — c’est le premier commandement, accompagné d’une promesse. —
Honor thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise)
3 afin que tu sois heureux et que tu vives longtemps sur la terre. »
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4 Et vous, pères, n’exaspérez pas vos enfants, mais élevez-les en les corrigeant et en les avertissant selon le Seigneur.
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
5 Serviteurs, obéissez à vos maîtres selon la chair avec respect et crainte et dans la simplicité de votre cœur, comme au Christ,
Servants, be obedient to them that are [your] masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as to Christ;
6 ne faisant pas seulement le service sous leurs yeux, comme pour plaire aux hommes, mais en serviteurs du Christ, qui font de bon cœur la volonté de Dieu.
Not with eye-service, as men-pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
7 Servez-les avec affection, comme servant le Seigneur, et non des hommes,
With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
8 assurés que chacun, soit esclave, soit libre, sera récompensé par le Seigneur de ce qu’il aura fait de bien.
Knowing that whatever good thing any man doeth, the same will he receive from the Lord, whether [he be] bond or free.
9 Et vous, maîtres, agissez de même à leur égard et laissez là les menaces, sachant que leur Seigneur et le vôtre est dans les cieux et qu’il ne fait pas acception de personne.
And, ye masters, do the same things to them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.
10 Au reste, frères, fortifiez-vous dans le Seigneur et dans sa vertu toute-puissante.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Revêtez-vous de l’armure de Dieu, afin de pouvoir résister aux embûches du diable.
Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12 Car nous n’avons pas à lutter contre la chair et le sang, mais contre les princes, contre les puissances, contre les dominateurs de ce monde de ténèbres, contre les esprits mauvais répandus dans l’air. (aiōn g165)
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. (aiōn g165)
13 C’est pourquoi prenez l’armure de Dieu, afin de pouvoir résister au jour mauvais, et après avoir tout surmonté, rester debout.
Wherefore take to you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Soyez donc fermes, les reins ceints de la vérité, revêtus de la cuirasse de justice,
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breast-plate of righteousness;
15 et les pieds chaussés, prêts à annoncer l’Evangile de paix.
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Et surtout, prenez le bouclier de la foi, par lequel vous pourrez éteindre tous les traits enflammés du Malin.
Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which ye will be able to extinguish all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 Prenez aussi le casque du salut, et le glaive de l’Esprit, qui est la parole de Dieu.
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Faites en tout temps par l’Esprit toutes sortes de prières et de supplications; et pour cela, veillez avec une persévérance continuelle et priez pour tous les saints,
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching for this purpose with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 et pour moi, afin qu’il me soit donné d’ouvrir les lèvres et de prêcher avec liberté le mystère de l’Evangile,
And for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20 à l’égard duquel je fais fonction d’ambassadeur dans les chaînes, et afin que j’en parle avec assurance comme il con vient.
For which I am an embassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
21 Quant à savoir ce qui me concerne et ce que je fais, Tychique, le bien-aimé frère et fidèle ministre dans le Seigneur, vous fera tout connaître.
But that ye also may know my affairs, [and] how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things:
22 Je vous l’envoie tout exprès, pour que vous connaissiez notre situation et pour qu’il console vos cœurs.
Whom I have sent to you for the same purpose, that ye may know our affairs, and [that] he may comfort your hearts.
23 Paix aux frères, charité et foi, de la part de Dieu le Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
Peace [be] to the brethren, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Que la grâce soit avec tous ceux qui aiment Notre-Seigneur Jésus-Christ d’un amour incorruptible.
Grace [be] with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.
