Deutéronome 28
1 Si tu obéis exactement à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, en observant et en mettant en pratique tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd’hui, Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donnera la supériorité sur toutes les nations de la terre.
It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to the LORD your God’s voice, to observe to do all his commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.
2 Voici toutes les bénédictions qui viendront sur toi et t’atteindront, si tu obéis à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu:
All these blessings will come upon you, and overtake you, if you listen to the LORD your God’s voice.
3 Tu seras béni dans la ville et tu seras béni dans les champs.
You shall be blessed in the city, and you shall be blessed in the field.
4 Béni sera le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton sol, le fruit de tes troupeaux, les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail.
You shall be blessed in the fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the fruit of your animals, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock.
5 Bénies seront ta corbeille et ta huche.
Your basket and your kneading trough shall be blessed.
6 Tu seras béni à ton entrée, et tu seras béni à ta sortie.
You shall be blessed when you come in, and you shall be blessed when you go out.
7 Yahweh fera que les ennemis qui s’élèveront contre toi soient mis en déroute devant toi; venus contre toi par un seul chemin, ils s’enfuiront devant toi par sept chemins.
The LORD will cause your enemies who rise up against you to be struck before you. They will come out against you one way, and will flee before you seven ways.
8 Yahweh commandera à la bénédiction d’être avec toi dans tes greniers et dans tout travail de tes mains! Il te bénira dans le pays que te donne Yahweh, ton Dieu.
The LORD will command the blessing on you in your barns, and in all that you put your hand to. He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God gives you.
9 Yahweh te fera subsister pour lui comme un peuple saint, ainsi qu’il te l’a juré, si tu observes les commandements de Yahweh, ton Dieu, et si tu marches dans ses voies;
The LORD will establish you for a holy people to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and walk in his ways.
10 et tous les peuples verront que le nom de Yahweh est nommé sur toi, et ils te craindront.
All the peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the LORD’s name, and they will be afraid of you.
11 Yahweh te comblera de biens, en multipliant le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, dans le pays que Yahweh a juré à tes pères de te donner.
The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity in the fruit of your body, in the fruit of your livestock, and in the fruit of your ground, in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.
12 Yahweh t’ouvrira son bon trésor, le ciel, pour envoyer à ton pays la pluie en son temps, et pour bénir tout le travail de tes mains. Tu prêteras à beaucoup de nations, et tu n’emprunteras pas.
The LORD will open to you his good treasure in the sky, to give the rain of your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, and you will not borrow.
13 Yahweh te mettra à la tête, et non à la queue; tu seras toujours en haut, et tu ne seras jamais en bas, si tu obéis aux commandements de Yahweh, ton Dieu, que je te prescris aujourd’hui, si tu les observes et les mets en pratique,
The LORD will make you the head, and not the tail. You will be above only, and you will not be beneath, if you listen to the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you today, to observe and to do,
14 et si tu ne t’écartes, ni à droite ni à gauche, de tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd’hui, pour aller après d’autres dieux et les servir.
and shall not turn away from any of the words which I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
15 Mais si tu n’obéis pas à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, pour observer et mettre en pratique tous ses commandements et toutes ses lois que je te prescris aujourd’hui, voici toutes les malédictions qui viendront sur toi et t’atteindront:
But it shall come to pass, if you will not listen to the LORD your God’s voice, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come on you and overtake you.
16 Tu seras maudit dans la ville et tu seras maudit dans les champs.
You will be cursed in the city, and you will be cursed in the field.
17 Seront maudites ta corbeille et ta huche.
Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed.
18 Seront maudits le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton sol, les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail.
The fruit of your body, the fruit of your ground, the increase of your livestock, and the young of your flock will be cursed.
19 Tu seras maudit à ton entrée, et tu seras maudit à ta sortie.
You will be cursed when you come in, and you will be cursed when you go out.
20 Yahweh enverra contre toi la malédiction, le trouble et la menace, dans tout ce que tu entreprendras de faire, jusqu’à ce que tu sois détruit et jusqu’à ce que tu périsses bientôt, à cause de la perversité de tes actions, par lesquelles tu m’auras abandonné.
The LORD will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings, by which you have forsaken me.
21 Yahweh attachera à toi la peste, jusqu’à ce qu’elle t’ait consumé de dessus la terre où tu vas entrer pour la posséder.
The LORD will make the pestilence cling to you, until he has consumed you from off the land where you go in to possess it.
22 Yahweh te frappera de langueur, de fièvre, d’inflammation, de chaleur brûlante, de sécheresse, de charbon et de nielle, fléaux qui te poursuivront jusqu’à ce que tu périsses.
The LORD will strike you with consumption, with fever, with inflammation, with fiery heat, with the sword, with blight, and with mildew. They will pursue you until you perish.
23 Ton ciel sur ta tête sera d’airain, et la terre sous tes pieds sera de fer.
Your sky that is over your head will be bronze, and the earth that is under you will be iron.
24 Yahweh enverra pour pluie à ton pays de la poussière et du sable qui descendront du ciel sur toi jusqu’à ce que tu sois détruit.
The LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It will come down on you from the sky, until you are destroyed.
25 Yahweh fera que tu sois battu devant tes ennemis; tu sortiras contre eux par un seul chemin, et par sept chemins tu fuiras devant eux, et tu seras un objet de terreur parmi tous les royaumes de la terre.
The LORD will cause you to be struck before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and will flee seven ways before them. You will be tossed back and forth amongst all the kingdoms of the earth.
26 Ton cadavre servira de pâture à tous les oiseaux du ciel et aux bêtes de la terre, et il n’y aura personne pour les effrayer.
Your dead bodies will be food to all birds of the sky, and to the animals of the earth; and there will be no one to frighten them away.
27 Yahweh te frappera de l’ulcère d’Égypte, d’hémorroïdes, de dartres et de gale, dont tu ne pourras guérir.
The LORD will strike you with the boils of Egypt, with the tumours, with the scurvy, and with the itch, of which you can not be healed.
28 Yahweh te frappera de délire, d’aveuglement et d’égarement d’esprit;
The LORD will strike you with madness, with blindness, and with astonishment of heart.
29 tu tâtonneras en plein midi, comme l’aveugle dans l’obscurité; tu ne réussiras pas dans tes voies; tu seras tous les jours opprimé et dépouillé, sans personne qui vienne à ton secours.
You will grope at noonday, as the blind gropes in darkness, and you shall not prosper in your ways. You will only be oppressed and robbed always, and there will be no one to save you.
30 Tu te fianceras à une femme, et un autre la possédera; tu bâtiras une maison, et tu ne l’habiteras pas; tu planteras une vigne, et tu n’en jouiras pas.
You will betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her. You will build a house, and you won’t dwell in it. You will plant a vineyard, and not use its fruit.
31 Ton bœuf sera égorgé sous tes yeux, et tu n’en mangeras pas; ton âne sera enlevé de devant toi, et on ne te le rendra pas; tes brebis seront livrées à tes ennemis, et personne ne viendra à ton secours.
Your ox will be slain before your eyes, and you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face, and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies, and you will have no one to save you.
32 Tes fils et tes filles seront livrés à un autre peuple; tes yeux le verront et languiront tout le jour après eux, et ta main sera impuissante.
Your sons and your daughters will be given to another people. Your eyes will look and fail with longing for them all day long. There will be no power in your hand.
33 Le fruit de ton sol et tout le produit de ton travail, un peuple que tu n’as pas connu le mangera, et tu seras opprimé et écrasé tous les jours.
A nation which you don’t know will eat the fruit of your ground and all of your work. You will only be oppressed and crushed always,
34 Tu deviendras fou à la vue des choses que tu verras de tes yeux.
so that the sights that you see with your eyes will drive you mad.
35 Yahweh te frappera aux genoux et aux cuisses d’un ulcère malin, dont tu ne pourras guérir; il te couvrira depuis la plante du pied jusqu’au sommet de la tête.
The LORD will strike you in the knees and in the legs with a sore boil, of which you cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot to the crown of your head.
36 Yahweh te fera marcher, toi et ton roi que tu auras mis à ta tête, vers une nation que tu n’auras pas connue, ni toi, ni tes pères, et là tu serviras d’autres dieux, du bois et de la pierre,
The LORD will bring you, and your king whom you will set over yourselves, to a nation that you have not known, you nor your fathers. There you will serve other gods of wood and stone.
37 et tu deviendras un sujet d’étonnement, de fable et de raillerie, parmi tous les peuples chez lesquels Yahweh te mènera.
You will become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword amongst all the peoples where the LORD will lead you away.
38 Tu porteras sur ton champ beaucoup de semence, et tu recueilleras peu, car les sauterelles la dévoreront.
You will carry much seed out into the field, and will gather little in, for the locust will consume it.
39 Tu planteras des vignes et tu les cultiveras, et tu ne boiras pas de vin et tu ne récolteras rien, car les vers les mangeront.
You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor harvest, because worms will eat them.
40 Tu auras des oliviers sur tout ton territoire, et tu ne t’oindras pas d’huile, car tes olives tomberont.
You will have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you won’t anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off.
41 Tu engendreras des fils et des filles, et ils ne seront pas à toi, car ils iront en captivité.
You will father sons and daughters, but they will not be yours, for they will go into captivity.
42 Les insectes s’empareront de tous tes arbres et des fruits de ton sol.
Locusts will consume all of your trees and the fruit of your ground.
43 L’étranger qui vit au milieu de toi s’élèvera de plus en plus au-dessus de toi, tandis que toi, tu descendras toujours plus bas;
The foreigner who is amongst you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower.
44 il te prêtera, et tu ne lui prêteras pas: il sera en tête, et tu seras à la queue.
He will lend to you, and you won’t lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail.
45 Toutes ces malédictions viendront sur toi, elles te poursuivront et t’atteindront, jusqu’à ce que tu sois détruit, parce que tu n’auras pas obéi à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu, pour observer ses lois et ses commandements qu’il t’a prescrits.
All these curses will come on you, and will pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you didn’t listen to the LORD your God’s voice, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you.
46 Elles seront pour toi un signe et un prodige, et pour ta postérité à jamais.
They will be for a sign and for a wonder to you and to your offspring forever.
47 Parce que tu n’auras pas servi Yahweh, ton Dieu, avec joie et de bon cœur, en retour de l’abondance de toutes choses,
Because you didn’t serve the LORD your God with joyfulness and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things;
48 tu serviras, dans la faim, dans la soif, dans la nudité, dans la disette de toutes choses, tes ennemis que Yahweh enverra contre toi; il mettra un joug de fer sur ton cou, jusqu’à ce qu’il t’ait détruit.
therefore you will serve your enemies whom the LORD sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you.
49 Yahweh fera partir contre toi de loin, des extrémités de la terre, une nation à la marche rapide comme le vol de l’aigle, nation dont tu n’entendras pas le langage,
The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flies: a nation whose language you will not understand,
50 nation à l’aspect farouche, qui n’aura ni égards pour le vieillard, ni pitié pour l’enfant.
a nation of fierce facial expressions, that doesn’t respect the elderly, nor show favour to the young.
51 Elle dévorera le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, jusqu’à ce que tu sois détruit; elle ne te laissera ni blé, ni vin nouveau, ni huile, ni les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, jusqu’à ce qu’elle t’ait fait périr.
They will eat the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed. They also won’t leave you grain, new wine, oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish.
52 Elle t’assiégera dans toutes tes portes, jusqu’à ce que tombent dans tout ton pays tes murailles, hautes et fortes, dans lesquelles tu auras mis ta confiance; elle t’assiégera dans toutes tes portes, dans tout le pays que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’aura donné.
They will besiege you in all your gates until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout all your land. They will besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you.
53 Tu mangeras le fruit de tes entrailles, la chair de tes fils et de tes filles que Yahweh, ton Dieu, t’aura donnés, tant sera grande l’angoisse et la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi.
You will eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies will distress you.
54 L’homme d’entre vous le plus délicat et le plus habitué au luxe regardera d’un œil jaloux son frère, la femme qui repose sur son sein et le reste de ses enfants qu’il aura épargnés;
The man who is tender amongst you, and very delicate, his eye will be evil towards his brother, towards the wife whom he loves, and towards the remnant of his children whom he has remaining,
55 il ne donnera à aucun d’eux de la chair de ses enfants dont il se nourrira, parce qu’il ne lui restera plus rien, tant seront grandes l’angoisse et la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans toutes tes portes.
so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he will eat, because he has nothing left to him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in all your gates.
56 La femme d’entre vous la plus délicate et la plus habituée au luxe, trop tendre et trop délicate pour essayer de poser à terre la plante de son pied, regardera d’un œil jaloux le mari qui reposait sur son sein, ainsi que son fils et sa fille,
The tender and delicate woman amongst you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye will be evil towards the husband that she loves, towards her son, towards her daughter,
57 à cause de l’arrière-faix sorti d’entre ses pieds et de ses enfants qu’elle aura mis au monde; car, manquant de tout, elle s’en nourrira en secret, tant sera grande l’angoisse et la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans tes portes.
towards her young one who comes out from between her feet, and towards her children whom she bears; for she will eat them secretly for lack of all things in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy will distress you in your gates.
58 Si tu n’as pas soin de mettre en pratique toutes les paroles de cette loi, écrites dans ce livre, craignant ce nom glorieux et redoutable: Yahweh, ton Dieu,
If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, THE LORD your God,
59 — Yahweh rendra extraordinaires tes plaies et les plaies de ta postérité, plaies grandes et continues, maladies graves et opiniâtres.
then the LORD will make your plagues and the plagues of your offspring fearful, even great plagues, and of long duration, and severe sicknesses, and of long duration.
60 Il fera revenir sur toi toutes les maladies d’Égypte, devant lesquelles tu tremblais, et elles s’attacheront à toi.
He will bring on you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of; and they will cling to you.
61 De plus, Yahweh fera venir sur toi toutes sortes de maladies et de plaies, qui ne sont pas écrites dans le livre de cette loi, jusqu’à ce que tu sois détruit.
Also every sickness and every plague which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring them on you until you are destroyed.
62 Vous ne resterez plus qu’un petit nombre, après avoir été nombreux comme les étoiles du ciel, parce que tu n’auras pas obéi à la voix de Yahweh, ton Dieu.
You will be left few in number, even though you were as the stars of the sky for multitude, because you didn’t listen to the LORD your God’s voice.
63 De même que Yahweh prenait plaisir à vous faire du bien et à vous multiplier, ainsi Yahweh prendra plaisir à vous faire périr et à vous détruire; et vous serez arrachés de la terre où tu vas entrer pour la posséder.
It will happen that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish and to destroy you. You will be plucked from the land that you are going in to possess.
64 Yahweh te dispersera parmi tous les peuples, d’une extrémité de la terre à l’autre, et là, tu serviras d’autres dieux que n’ont connus ni toi ni tes pères, du bois et de la pierre.
The LORD will scatter you amongst all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other end of the earth. There you will serve other gods which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone.
65 Parmi ces nations mêmes, tu ne seras pas tranquille, et il n’y aura pas un lieu de repos pour la plante de tes pieds; là Yahweh te donnera un cœur tremblant, des yeux éteints, et une âme languissante.
Amongst these nations you will find no ease, and there will be no rest for the sole of your foot; but the LORD will give you there a trembling heart, failing of eyes, and pining of soul.
66 Ta vie sera comme en suspens devant toi, tu trembleras la nuit et le jour, et tu ne croiras pas à ta vie.
Your life will hang in doubt before you. You will be afraid night and day, and will have no assurance of your life.
67 Le matin tu diras: « Que ne suis-je au soir? » et le soir tu diras: « Que ne suis-je au matin? » — à cause de la crainte qui agitera ton cœur et des choses que tes yeux verront.
In the morning you will say, “I wish it were evening!” and at evening you will say, “I wish it were morning!” for the fear of your heart which you will fear, and for the sights which your eyes will see.
68 Et Yahweh te fera retourner sur des navires en Égypte, par le chemin dont je t’avais dit: « Tu ne le verras plus. » Et là vous vous offrirez en vente à vos ennemis, comme esclaves et comme servantes, et il n’y aura personne qui vous achète. »
The LORD will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I told you that you would never see it again. There you will offer yourselves to your enemies for male and female slaves, and nobody will buy you.
