Deutéronome 17
1 Tu ne sacrifieras à Yahweh, ton Dieu, ni bœuf ni agneau, qui ait quelque défaut ou difformité; car c’est une abomination à Yahweh, ton Dieu.
Thou shalt not sacrifice to Jehovah thy God an ox or sheep wherein is a defect, or anything bad; for it is an abomination to Jehovah thy God.
2 S’il se trouve au milieu de toi, dans l’une de tes villes que Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donne, un homme ou une femme qui fasse ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, ton Dieu, en transgressant son alliance,
If there be found in thy midst in any of thy gates which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that doeth what is evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, in transgressing his covenant,
3 qui aille à d’autres dieux pour les servir et se prosterner devant eux, devant le soleil, ou la lune, ou toute l’armée du ciel, ce que je n’ai pas commandé,
and goeth and serveth other gods, and boweth down to them, either to the sun or to the moon, or to the whole host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
4 quand la chose t’aura été rapportée, quand tu l’auras appris, tu feras d’exactes recherches. Si le bruit est vrai et le fait bien établi, si cette abomination a été commise en Israël,
and it be told thee, and thou hearest of it; then thou shalt make thorough inquiry, and if it be truth [and] the thing be certain, that this abomination hath been wrought in Israel,
5 alors tu feras conduire aux portes de ta ville l’homme ou la femme coupables de cette mauvaise action, l’homme ou la femme, et tu les lapideras jusqu’à ce qu’ils meurent.
thou shalt bring forth that man or that woman, who committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, the man or the woman, and shalt stone them with stones, that they die.
6 Sur la parole de deux témoins ou de trois témoins on mettra à mort celui qui doit mourir; il ne sera pas mis à mort sur la parole d’un seul témoin.
At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is to die be put to death: he shall not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.
7 La main des témoins se lèvera la première sur lui pour le faire mourir, et ensuite la main de tout le peuple. Tu ôteras ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.
The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.
8 Si une affaire relative à un meurtre, à une contestation, à une blessure, — objets de litiges dans tes portes, — te paraît trop difficile, tu te lèveras et tu monteras au lieu que Yahweh, ton Dieu, aura choisi.
If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between cause and cause, and between stroke and stroke, matters of controversy within thy gates, then shalt thou arise, and go up to the place which Jehovah thy God will choose.
9 Tu iras trouver les prêtres lévitiques; et le juge en fonction à ce moment; tu les consulteras, et ils te feront connaître ce qui est conforme au droit.
And thou shalt come unto the priests, the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall declare unto thee the sentence of judgment;
10 Tu agiras d’après la sentence qu’ils t’auront fait connaître dans le lieu que Yahweh aura choisi, et tu auras soin d’agir selon tout ce qu’ils enseigneront.
and thou shalt do according to the tenor of the word, which they of that place which Jehovah will choose shall declare unto thee; and thou shalt take heed to do according to all that they instruct thee:
11 Tu agiras selon la loi qu’ils enseigneront, et selon la sentence qu’ils auront prononcée, sans te détourner ni à droite ni à gauche de ce qu’ils t’auront fait connaître.
according to the sentence of the law which they shall declare unto thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the word which they shall declare unto thee, to the right hand, or the left.
12 Celui qui, se laissant aller à l’orgueil, agira sans écouter le prêtre qui se tient là pour servir Yahweh, ton Dieu, ou sans écouter le juge, sera puni de mort. Ainsi tu ôteras le mal du milieu d’Israël;
And the man that shall act presumptuously, and not hearken unto the priest that standeth to serve there before Jehovah thy God, or unto the judge, that man shall die; and thou shalt put away evil from Israel.
13 et tout le peuple en l’apprenant, craindra et ne se laissera plus aller à l’orgueil.
And all the people shall hear, and fear, and no more act presumptuously.
14 Lorsque tu seras entré dans le pays que Yahweh, ton Dieu, te donne, que tu en auras pris possession, et que tu y auras établi ta demeure, si tu dis: « Je veux mettre un roi sur moi, comme toutes les nations qui m’entourent »,
When thou comest unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are about me;
15 tu mettras sur toi un roi que Yahweh, ton Dieu, aura choisi; c’est du milieu de tes frères que tu prendras un roi, pour l’établir sur toi; tu ne pourras pas te donner pour roi un étranger qui ne serait pas ton frère.
thou shalt only set him king over thee whom Jehovah thy God will choose: from among thy brethren shalt thou set a king over thee; thou mayest not set a foreigner over thee, who is not thy brother.
16 Mais qu’il n’ait pas un grand nombre de chevaux, et qu’il ne ramène pas le peuple en Égypte pour avoir beaucoup de chevaux; car Yahweh vous a dit: « Vous ne retournerez plus désormais par ce chemin-là. »
Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor lead back the people to Egypt, to multiply horses; for Jehovah hath said unto you, Ye shall not return again any more that way.
17 Qu’il n’ait pas un grand nombre de femmes, de peur que son cœur ne se détourne; qu’il ne fasse pas de grands amas d’argent et d’or.
Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away; neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
18 Dès qu’il sera assis sur le trône de sa royauté, il écrira pour lui sur un livre une copie de cette loi, d’après l’exemplaire qui est chez les prêtres lévitiques.
And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests, the Levites;
19 Il l’aura avec lui et il y lira tous les jours de sa vie, afin qu’il apprenne à craindre Yahweh, son Dieu, à observer toutes les paroles de cette loi et toutes ces ordonnances en les mettant en pratique;
and it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life; that he may learn to fear Jehovah his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them;
20 pour que son cœur ne s’élève pas au-dessus de ses frères, et qu’il ne se détourne des commandements ni à droite ni à gauche, afin qu’il prolonge ses jours dans son royaume, lui et ses fils, au milieu d’Israël.
that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left; that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his sons, in the midst of Israel.
