Actes 9
1 Cependant Saul, respirant encore la menace et la mort contre les disciples du Seigneur, alla trouver le grand prêtre
Now Saul, whose every breath was a threat of destruction for the disciples of the Lord,
2 et lui demanda des lettres pour les synagogues de Damas, afin que, s’il trouvait des gens de cette croyance, hommes ou femmes, il les amenât enchaînés à Jérusalem.
went to the High Priest and begged from him letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, in order that if he found any believers there, either men or women, he might bring them in chains to Jerusalem.
3 Comme il était en chemin et qu’il approchait de Damas, tout à coup une lumière venant du ciel resplendit autour de lui.
But on the journey, as he was getting near Damascus, suddenly there flashed round him a light from Heaven;
4 Il tomba par terre, et entendit une voix qui lui disait: « Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu? »
and falling to the ground he heard a voice which said to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?"
5 Il répondit: « Qui êtes-vous, Seigneur? » Et le Seigneur dit: « Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes. [Il n’est pas bon pour toi de regimber contre l’aiguillon. »
"Who art thou, Lord?" he asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," was the reply.
6 Tremblant et saisi d’effroi, il dit: « Seigneur, que voulez-vous que je fasse? » Le Seigneur lui répondit: ] « Lève-toi et entre dans la ville; là on te dira ce que tu dois faire. »
"But rise and go to the city, and you will be told what you are to do.
7 Les hommes qui l’accompagnaient demeurèrent saisis de stupeur, car ils percevaient le son de la voix, mais ne voyaient personne.
Meanwhile the men who travelled with Saul were standing dumb with amazement, hearing a sound, but seeing no one.
8 Saul se releva de terre, et bien que ses yeux fussent ouverts, il ne voyait rien; on le prit par la main et on le conduisit à Damas;
Then he rose from the ground, but when he had opened his eyes, he could not see, and they led him by the arm and brought him to Damascus.
9 et il y fut trois jours sans voir, et sans prendre ni nourriture ni boisson.
And for two days he remained without sight, and did not eat or drink anything.
10 Or il y avait à Damas un disciple nommé Ananie. Le Seigneur lui dit dans une vision: « Ananie! » Il répondit: « Me voici, Seigneur. »
Now in Damascus there was a disciple of the name of Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, saying, "Ananias!" "I am here, Lord," he answered.
11 Et le Seigneur lui dit: « Lève-toi, va dans la rue qu’on appelle la Droite, et cherche dans la maison de Judas un nommé Saul, de Tarse; car il est en prière. »
"Rise," said the Lord, "and go to Straight Street, and inquire at the house of Judas for a man called Saul, from Tarsus, for he is actually praying.
12 (Et il a vu en vision un homme nommé Ananie, qui entrait et lui imposait les mains afin qu’il recouvrât la vue.)
He has seen a man called Ananias come and lay his hands upon him so that he may recover his sight."
13 Ananie répondit: « Seigneur, j’ai appris de plusieurs tout le mal que cet homme a fait à vos saints dans Jérusalem.
"Lord," answered Ananias, "I have heard about that man from many, and I have heard of the great mischief he has done to Thy people in Jerusalem;
14 Et il a ici, des princes des prêtres, plein pouvoir pour charger de chaînes tous ceux qui invoquent votre nom. »
and here he is authorized by the High Priests to arrest all who call upon Thy name."
15 Mais le Seigneur lui dit: « Va, car cet homme est un instrument que j’ai choisi, pour porter mon nom devant les nations, devant les rois et devant les enfants d’Israël;
"Go," replied the Lord; "he is a chosen instrument of Mine to carry My name to the Gentiles and to kings and to the descendants of Israel.
16 et je lui montrerai tout ce qu’il doit souffrir pour mon nom. »
For I will let him know the great sufferings which he must pass through for My sake."
17 Ananie s’en alla, et arrivé dans la maison, il imposa les mains à Saul, en disant: « Saul, mon frère, le Seigneur Jésus qui t’a apparu sur le chemin par lequel tu venais, m’a envoyé pour que tu recouvres la vue et que tu sois rempli du Saint-Esprit. »
So Ananias went and entered the house; and, laying his two hands upon Saul, said, "Saul, brother, the Lord--even Jesus who appeared to you on your journey--has sent me, that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit."
18 Au même instant, il tomba des yeux de Saul comme des écailles, et il recouvra la vue. Il se leva et fut baptisé;
Instantly there dropped from his eyes what seemed to be scales, and he could see once more. Upon this he rose and received baptism;
19 et après qu’il eut pris de la nourriture, ses forces lui revinrent. Saul passa quelques jours avec les disciples qui étaient à Damas,
after which he took food and regained his strength. Then he remained some little time with the disciples in Damascus.
20 et aussitôt il se mit à prêcher dans les synagogues que Jésus est le Fils de Dieu.
And in the synagogues he began at once to proclaim Jesus as the Son of God;
21 Tous ceux qui l’entendaient étaient dans l’étonnement et disaient: « N’est-ce pas lui qui persécutait à Jérusalem ceux qui invoquent ce nom, et n’est-il pas venu ici pour les conduire chargés de chaînes aux princes des prêtres? »
and his hearers were all amazed, and began to ask one another, "Is not this the man who in Jerusalem tried to exterminate those who called upon that Name, and came here on purpose to carry them off in chains to the High Priests?"
22 Cependant Saul sentait redoubler son courage, et il confondait les Juifs de Damas, leur démontrant que Jésus est le Christ.
Saul, however, gained more and more influence, and as for the Jews living in Damascus, he bewildered them with his proofs that Jesus is the Christ.
23 Après un temps assez considérable, les Juifs formèrent le dessein de le tuer,
At length the Jews plotted to kill Saul;
24 mais leur complot parvint à la connaissance de Saul. On gardait les portes jour et nuit, afin de le mettre à mort.
but information of their intention was given to him. They even watched the gates, day and night, in order to murder him;
25 Mais les disciples le prirent pendant la nuit et le descendirent par la muraille, dans une corbeille.
but his disciples took him by night and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a hamper.
26 Il se rendit à Jérusalem, et il cherchait à se mettre en rapport avec les disciples; mais tous le craignaient, ne pouvant croire qu’il fût disciple de Jésus.
So he came to Jerusalem and made several attempts to associate with the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, being in doubt as to whether he himself was a disciple.
27 Alors Barnabé, l’ayant pris avec lui, le mena aux Apôtres, et leur raconta comment sur le chemin Saul avait vu le Seigneur, qui lui avait parlé, et avec quel courage il avait, à Damas, prêché le nom de Jésus.
Barnabas, however, came to his assistance. He brought Saul to the Apostles, and related to them how, on his journey, he had seen the Lord, and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had fearlessly taught in the name of Jesus.
28 Dès lors Saul allait et venait avec eux dans Jérusalem, et parlait avec assurance au nom du Seigneur.
Henceforth Saul was one of them, going in and out of the city,
29 Il s’adressait aussi aux Hellénistes et disputait avec eux; mais ceux-ci cherchaient à le mettre à mort.
and speaking fearlessly in the name of the Lord. And he often talked with the Hellenists and had discussions with them.
30 Les frères, l’ayant su, l’emmenèrent à Césarée, d’où ils le firent partir pour Tarse.
But they kept trying to take his life. On learning this, the brethren brought him down to Caesarea, and then sent him by sea to Tarsus.
31 L’Eglise était en paix dans toute la Judée, la Galilée et la Samarie, se développant et progressant dans la crainte du Seigneur, et elle se multipliait par l’assistance du Saint-Esprit.
The Church, however, throughout the whole of Judaea, Galilee and Samaria, had peace and was spiritually built up; and grew in numbers, living in the fear of the Lord and receiving encouragement from the Holy Spirit.
32 Or il arriva que Pierre, visitant les saints de ville en ville, descendit vers ceux qui demeuraient à Lydda.
Now Peter, as he went to town after town, came down also to God's people at Lud.
33 Il y trouva un homme appelé Enée, couché sur un lit depuis huit ans: c’était un paralytique.
There he found a man of the name of Aeneas, who for eight years had kept his bed, through being paralysed.
34 Pierre lui dit: « Enée, Jésus-Christ te guérit; lève-toi, et fais toi-même ton lit. » Et aussitôt il se leva.
Peter said to him, "Aeneas, Jesus Christ cures you. Rise and make your own bed." He at once rose to his feet.
35 Tous les habitants de Lydda et de Saron le virent, et ils se convertirent au Seigneur.
And all the people of Lud and Sharon saw him; and they turned to the Lord.
36 Il y avait à Joppé, parmi les disciples, une femme nommée Tabitha, en grec Dorcas: elle était riche en bonnes œuvres et faisait beaucoup d’aumônes.
Among the disciples at Jaffa was a woman called Tabitha, or, as the name may be translated, 'Dorcas.' Her life was wholly devoted to the good and charitable actions which she was constantly doing.
37 Elle tomba malade en ce temps-là, et mourut. Après l’avoir lavée, on la déposa dans une chambre haute.
But, as it happened, just at that time she was taken ill and died. After washing her body they laid it out in a room upstairs.
38 Comme Lydda est près de Joppé, les disciples ayant appris que Pierre s’y trouvait, envoyèrent deux hommes vers lui pour lui adresser cette prière: « Ne tarde pas de venir jusque chez nous. »
Lud, however, being near Jaffa, the disciples, who had heard that Peter was at Lud, sent two men to him with an urgent request that he would come across to them without delay.
39 Pierre se leva et partit avec eux. Dès qu’il fut arrivé, on le conduisit dans la chambre haute, et toutes les veuves l’entourèrent en pleurant, et en lui montrant les tuniques et les vêtements que faisait Dorcas pendant qu’elle était avec elles.
So Peter rose and went with them. On his arrival they took him upstairs, and the widow women all came and stood by his side, weeping and showing him the underclothing and cloaks and garments of all kinds which Dorcas used to make while she was still with them.
40 Pierre fit sortir tout le monde, se mit à genoux et pria; puis, se tournant vers le cadavre, il dit: « Tabitha, lève-toi! » Elle ouvrit les yeux, et ayant vu Pierre, elle se mit sur son séant.
Peter, however, putting every one out of the room, knelt down and prayed, and then turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, rise." Dorcas at once opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, sat up.
41 Pierre lui tendit la main et l’aida à se lever. Et ayant appelé les saints et les veuves, il la leur présenta vivante.
Then, giving her his hand, he raised her to her feet and, calling to him God's people and the widows, he gave her back to them alive.
42 Ce prodige fut connu dans toute la ville de Joppé, et un grand nombre crurent au Seigneur.
This incident became known throughout Jaffa, and many believed in the Lord;
43 Pierre demeura quelque temps à Joppé, chez un corroyeur nommé Simon.
and Peter remained for a considerable time at Jaffa, staying at the house of a man called Simon, a tanner.
