2 Samuel 23

1 Voici les dernières paroles de David: Oracle de David, fils d’Isaï, oracle de l’homme haut placé, de l’oint du Dieu de Jacob, de l’aimable chantre d’Israël.

Now, these, are the last words of David, —The oracle of David, son of Jesse, Yea the oracle of The man raised up on high, The Anointed of the God of Jacob, the Delight of the Songs of Israel:

2 L’Esprit de Yahweh a parlé par moi, et sa parole est sur ma langue.

The Spirit of Yahweh, spake in me, —And, his word, was on my tongue;

3 Le Dieu d’Israël a parlé, le Rocher d’Israël a parlé: Un juste dominant sur les hommes, dominant dans la crainte de Dieu!...

Said the God of Israel, Unto me, spake the Rock of Israel: —One Ruling over Men, A Righteous One, ruling in the reverence of God,

4 C’est comme la lumière du matin, quand se lève le soleil, un matin sans nuages! Par ses rayons, après la pluie, l’herbe sort de terre.

Is even as the light of the morning when ariseth the sun, —A morning, without clouds, [As] from brightness, [and] from rain, the fresh shoots out of the earth.

5 N’en est-il pas ainsi de ma maison avec Dieu? Car il a fait avec moi une alliance éternelle, de tous points bien ordonnée et gardée; oui, il fera germer tout mon salut et tout son bon plaisir.

When, not so, was my house with GOD, Then, a covenant age-abiding, he appointed me, Ordered in all things and guarded, Now that it is all my salvation and all my desire, Will he not make it shoot forth?

6 Mais les gens de Bélial sont tous comme des épines que l’on rejette, on ne les prend pas avec la main;

But, as for the abandoned, like thorns to be tossed away are they all, —For, not with the hand, can they be taken;

7 l’homme qui y touche s’arme d’un fer ou d’un bois de lance, et on les consume par le feu sur place.

But, the man that would touch them, Must fence himself with iron, and the shaft of a spear, —Then, with fire, shall they be, consumed, on the spot!

8 Voici les noms des héros qui étaient au service de David: Jessbam, fils de Hachamoni, chef des officiers. Il brandit sa lance sur huit cents hommes, qu’il fit périr en une seule fois.

These, are the names of the mighty men, who belonged to David, —The president a Tachmonite head of the charioteers, the same, was Adino the Eznite, for eight hundred, slain at one time.

9 Après lui, Eléazar, fils de Dodo, fils d’Ahohi. Il était parmi les trois vaillants qui étaient avec David, lorsqu’ils défièrent les Philistins qui étaient rassemblés là pour combattre,

And, after him, Eleazar son of Dodo, son of Ahohi, —in the hero-class of mighty men, with David, when they reproached the Philistines, they were gathered together there to battle, but the men of Israel had gone up;

10 tandis que les hommes d’Israël remontaient. Il se leva et frappa les Philistins jusqu’à ce que sa main fut lasse, et que sa main adhérât à l’épée. Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance en ce jour-là, et le peuple revint à la suite d’Eléazar, mais seulement pour ramasser les dépouilles.

he, however, arose and smote among the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto his sword, so Yahweh wrought a great victory on that day, —the people, coming back after him, only to strip the slain.

11 Après lui, Semma, fils d’Agé, le Hararite. Les Philistins s’étaient rassemblés en une seule troupe; il y avait là une pièce de terre pleine de lentilles, et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins.

And, after him, Shammah son of Agee, the Hararite, —and, when the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, there being at hand an allotment of field-land full of lentils, but, the people, having fled from the face of the Philistines,

12 Semma se plaça au milieu du champ, le défendit et battit les Philistins. Et Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance.

then took he his stand in the midst of the allotment, and defended it, and smote the Philistines, —and Yahweh wrought a great victory.

13 Trois d’entre les trente capitaines descendirent et vinrent, au temps de la moisson, auprès de David, à la caverne d’Odollam, tandis qu’une troupe de Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Réphaïm.

And three of the thirty chiefs descended, and came in, towards harvest, unto David, unto the cave of Adullam, —although, a troop of Philistines, were encamped in the vale of Rephaim;

14 David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléem.

and, David, then was in a stronghold, —and, a garrison of Philistines, was then in Bethlehem.

15 David eut un désir, et il dit: « Qui me fera boire de l’eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem? »

And David longed, and said, —Who will give me to drink water out of the well of Bethlehem, that is within the gate?

16 Aussitôt les trois braves, passant au travers du camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l’eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem. Ils la prirent et l’apportèrent à David; mais il ne voulut pas la boire, et il en fit une libation à Yahweh,

And the three mighty men brake through the camp of Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was within the gate, and bare it, and brought it in unto David, —yet would he not drink, but poured it out unto Yahweh,

17 en disant: « Loin de moi, ô Yahweh, de faire cela! N’est-ce pas le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie? » Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois braves.

and said—Be it far from me, O Yahweh, that I should do this! is it not the blood of the men who went with their lives [in their hands]? So he would not drink it. These things, did the three mighty men.

18 Abisaï, frère de Joab, fils de Sarvia, était aussi chef des officiers. Il brandit sa lance contre trois cents hommes et les tua, et il eut du renom parmi les trois.

And. Abishai brother of Joab son of Zeruiah, he, was chief of three, in that he brandished his spear against three hundred whom he slew; and, he, had a name among three.

19 Il était le plus considéré d’entre les trois, et il fut leur chef; mais il n’égala pas les trois premiers.

Was he not most honourable, of the three, and so became their captain? Nevertheless, unto the three, he attained not.

20 Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, fils d’un homme vaillant et riche en exploits, de Cabséel. Il frappa les deux ariels de Moab. Il descendit et frappa le lion au milieu de la citerne un jour de neige.

Benaiah also, son of Jehoiadah, son of an active man, hero of many a deed, a man of Kabzeel, he, smote the two sons of Ariel of Moab, he, also went down and smote a lion in the midst of a pit, on a day of snow;

21 Il frappa un Egyptien d’un aspect redoutable; et dans la main de l’Egyptien il y avait une lance. Il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, et il arracha la lance de la main de l’Egyptien et le frappa de sa propre lance.

he, also smote an Egyptian, who was of valiant bearing, and, in the hand of the Egyptian, was a spear, but he went down unto him with a staff, —and wrested the spear out of the hand of the Egyptian, and slew him with his own spear.

22 Voilà ce que fit Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, et il eut du renom parmi les trois vaillants.

These things, did Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and, he, had a name among three mighty men.

23 Il était plus considéré que les trente, mais il n’égala pas les trois. David le fit membre de son conseil.

He was the most honourable, of thirty, although, unto the three, he attained no, —so David added him to his council.

24 Asaël, frère de Joab, était des trente; Elchanan, fils de Dodo, de Bethléem;

Asahel, brother of Joab, was among the thirty, —Elhanan, son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;

25 Semma, de Harod; Elica, de Harod;

Shammah, the Harodite; Elika, the Harodite;

26 Hélès de Phalti; Hira, fils d’Accès, de Thécué;

Helez, the Paltite, Ira, son of Ikkesh, the Tekoite;

27 Abiéser, d’Anathoth; Mobonnaï, le Husatite;

Abiezer, the Anathothite, Mebunnai, the Hushathite;

28 Selmon, l’Ahohite; Maharaï, de Nétopha;

Zalmon, the Ahohite, Maharai, the Netophathite;

29 Héled, fils de Baana, de Nétopha; Ethaï, fils de Ribaï, de Gabaa des fils de Benjamin;

Heleb, son of Baanah, the Netophathite, —Ittai, son of Ribai, of Gibeah, of the sons of Benjamin;

30 Banaïa, de Pharaton; Heddaï, des vallées de Gaas;

Benaiah, a Pirathonite, Hiddai, of the torrents of Gaash;

31 Abi-Albon, d’Araba; Azmaveth, de Bérom;

Abi-albon, the Arbathite, Azmaveth, the Barhumite;

32 Eliaba, de Salabon; Benê-Yassen; Jonathan;

Eliahba, the Shaalbonite, (Of) the sons of Jashen, Jonathan;

33 Semma, le Hararite; Ahiam, fils de Sarar, le Haradite;

Shammah, the Hararite, Ahiam, son of Sharar, the Ararite;

34 Eliphélet, fils d’Aasbaï, fils d’un Machatien; Eliam, fils d’Achitophel, de Gilo;

Eliphelet, son of Ahasbai, son of the Maacathite. Eliam, son of Ahithophel, the Gilonite.

35 Hesraï, de Carmel; Pharaï, d’Arbi;

Hezro, the Carmelite, Paarai, the Arbite;

36 Igaal, fils de Nathan, de Soba; Bonni de Gad;

Igal, son of Nathan, of Zobah, Bani, the Gadite;
