2 Chroniques 15
1 L’Esprit de Dieu vint sur Azarias, fils d’Oded,
The Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded.
2 qui alla au-devant d’Asa et lui dit: « Ecoutez-moi, Asa, et tout Juda et tout Benjamin. Yahweh est avec vous quand vous êtes avec lui; si vous le cherchez, il se laissera trouver par vous; mais si vous l’abandonnez, il vous abandonnera.
He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all of Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you while you are with him. If you look for him, you will find him; but if you abandon him, he will abandon you.
3 Pendant longtemps Israël a été sans vrai Dieu, sans prêtre qui enseignât, sans loi;
For many years Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach them, and without the law.
4 mais, dans sa détresse, il s’est retourné vers Yahweh, son Dieu; ils l’ont cherché, et s’est laissé trouver par eux.
But when they were in trouble they returned to the Lord, the God of Israel—they looked for him, and they found him.
5 Dans ces temps-là, pas de sécurité pour ceux qui allaient et venaient, car de grandes confusions pesaient sur tous les habitants des pays.
During those times travel was dangerous, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. People everywhere had terrible problems.
6 On se heurtait, peuple contre peuple, ville contre ville, parce que Dieu les agitait par toutes sortes de tribulations.
Nation fought nation, and town fought town, for God threw them into a panic with all kinds of trouble.
7 Vous donc, montrez-vous forts, et que vos mains ne faiblissent pas, car il y aura récompense pour vos œuvres. »
But you need to be strong, not weak, for you will be rewarded for the work you do.”
8 En entendant ces paroles, la prophétie d’Oded, le prophète, Asa prit courage; il fit disparaître les abominations de tout le pays de Juda et de Benjamin et des villes qu’il avait prises dans la montagne d’Ephraïm, et restaura l’autel de Yahweh qui était devant le portique de Yahweh.
When Asa heard these words of prophecy from Azariah the prophet, son of Oded, he was encouraged. He removed the vile idols from the whole territory of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hill country of Ephraim. Then he repaired the altar of the Lord that stood in front of the porch of the Lord's Temple.
9 Il rassembla tout Juda et Benjamin, et ceux d’Ephraïm, de Manassé et de Siméon qui étaient venus séjourner parmi eux; car un grand nombre de gens d’Israël avaient passé de son côté, en voyant que Yahweh, son Dieu, était avec lui.
Then Asa summoned all of Judah and Benjamin, along with those Israelites from the tribes of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon who were living among them, for many people had deserted Israel and come over to Asa when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
10 Ils s’assemblèrent à Jérusalem le troisième mois de la quinzième année du règne d’Asa.
They gathered in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign.
11 Ce jour-là, ils immolèrent à Yahweh, sur le butin qu’ils avaient amené, sept cents bœufs et sept mille brebis.
That day they sacrificed to the Lord seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from the plunder they had brought back.
12 Ils prirent l’engagement solennel de chercher Yahweh, le Dieu de leurs pères, de tout leur cœur et de toute leur âme,
Then they made an agreement to conscientiously and completely follow the Lord, the God of their forefathers.
13 et quiconque ne rechercherait pas Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël, serait mis à mort, le petit comme le grand, l’homme comme la femme.
They also agreed that anyone who refused to follow the Lord, the God of Israel, would be put to death, whether young or old, man or woman.
14 Ils firent un serment à Yahweh à haute voix, avec des cris d’allégresse, au son des trompettes et des cors;
They declared their oath with a loud shout, accompanied by trumpets and blasts from rams' horns.
15 tout Juda fut dans la joie de ce serment, car ils avaient juré de tout leur cœur; car c’est de leur pleine volonté qu’ils avaient cherché Yahweh, et il s’était laissé trouver par eux; et Yahweh leur donna la paix tout à l’entour.
The whole of Judah was happy at the oath they had conscientiously sworn. They looked for him sincerely, and they found him. The Lord gave them peace from all their enemies.
16 Le roi Asa ôta même à Maacha, sa mère, la dignité de reine-mère, parce qu’elle avait fait une idole abominable pour Astarté. Asa abattit son idole abominable et, l’ayant réduite en poudre, il la brûla au torrent de Cédron.
King Asa also removed Maacah from her position as queen mother for making an offensive Asherah pole. Asa cut down her vile idol, crushed it up, and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
17 Mais les hauts lieux ne disparurent pas d’Israël, quoique le cœur d’Asa fut parfait pendant toute sa vie.
While the high places were not removed from Israel, Asa was completely devoted to the Lord all his life.
18 Il déposa dans la maison de Dieu les choses consacrées par son père et les choses consacrées par lui-même, de l’argent, de l’or et des vases.
He brought into God's Temple the silver and gold articles he and his father had dedicated.
19 Il n’y eut pas de guerre jusqu’à la trente-cinquième année du règne d’Asa.
There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.
