1 Samuel 29

1 Les Philistins rassemblèrent toutes leurs troupes à Aphec, et Israël était campé près de la source, en Jezraël.

Now the Philistines gathered together all their hosts, towards Aphek, —and, the Israelites, were encamping by the fountain, that is in Jezreel.

2 Pendant que les princes des Philistins s’avançaient en tête des centaines et des milliers, et que David et ses gens marchaient à l’arrière-garde avec Achis,

And, the lords of the Philistines, were passing on by hundreds, and by thousands, —but, David and his men, were passing on in the rear, with Achish.

3 les chefs des Philistins dirent: « Qu’est-ce que ces Hébreux? » Achis répondit aux chefs des Philistins: « N’est-ce pas ce David, serviteur de Saül, roi d’Israël, qui est avec moi depuis des jours et depuis des années, sans que j’aie trouvé en lui la moindre chose à reprocher, depuis qu’il a passé vers nous jusqu’à ce jour. »

Then said the princes of the Philistines, What are these Hebrews [doing]? And Achish said unto the princes of the Philistines—Is not this David, servant of Saul king of Israel, who hath been with me this year, or two, and I have found in him nothing, from the day of his coming over unto me unto this day?

4 Mais les chefs des Philistins s’irritèrent contre Achis, et les chefs des Philistins lui dirent: « Renvoie cet homme, et qu’il retourne dans le lieu où tu l’as établi; qu’il ne descende pas avec nous à la bataille, de peur qu’il ne soit pour nous un adversaire pendant le combat. Et comment pourrait-il rentrer en grâce auprès de son maître, si ce n’est en lui offrant les têtes de ces hommes?

But the princes of the Philistines raged against him, and the princes of the Philistines said unto him—Let the man go back, that he may return unto the place which thou didst appoint him, and let him not go down with us, into battle, so shall he not become to us a traitor, in the battle, —for, wherewith, should this fellow gain favour with his lord? Would it not be with the heads of those men?

5 N’est-ce pas ce David pour qui l’on chantait en dansant: Saül a tué ses mille, et David ses dix mille. »

Is not this David, of whom they made responses in the dances, saying, —Saul, hath smitten, his thousands, But, David, his, tens of thousands?

6 Achis appela David et lui dit: « Aussi vrai que Yahweh est vivant! tu es un homme droit, et je vois de bon œil toute ta conduite avec moi dans le camp, car je n’ai rien trouvé de mauvais en toi, depuis le jour où tu es venu vers moi jusqu’à ce jour; mais tu déplais aux yeux des princes.

So Achish called for David, and said unto him—By the life of Yahweh, surely, upright, thou art, and, pleasing in mine eyes, have been thy going out and thy coming in with me, in the host, for I have found in thee no wrong, from the day of thy coming in unto me, until this day, —but, in the eyes of the lords, displeasing, thou art.

7 Retourne donc et va-t-en en paix, pour ne rien faire de désagréable aux yeux des princes des Philistins. »

Now, therefore, return, and go in peace, —so shalt thou not do wrong in the eyes of the lords of the Philistines.

8 David dit à Achis: « Mais qu’ai-je fait, et qu’as-tu trouvé en ton serviteur, depuis le jour où je suis venu auprès de toi jusqu’à ce jour, pour que je n’aille pas combattre les ennemis de mon seigneur le roi? »

Then said David unto Achish—But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant, from the day that I came before thee, unto this day, —that I may not go in and fight, with the enemies of my lord the king.

9 Achis répondit et dit à David: « Je sais que tu as été bon à mon égard comme un ange de Dieu; mais les chefs des Philistins disent: il ne montera pas avec nous à la bataille.

Then answered Achish, and said unto David, I acknowledge that, pleasing, thou art in mine eyes, as a messenger of God, —notwithstanding, the princes of the Philistines, have said, He shall not go up with us, into the battle.

10 Ainsi lève-toi de bon matin, toi et les serviteurs de ton seigneur qui sont venus avec toi; levez-vous de bon matin, et dès qu’il fera jour, partez. »

Now, therefore, rise up early in the morning, thou and the servants of thy lord who have come with thee, —yea, as soon as ye have risen early in the morning, and have light, then depart.

11 David et ses gens se levèrent de bonne heure, pour partir dès le matin et retourner au pays des Philistins; et les Philistins montèrent à Jezraël.

So David rose up early, he and his men, to depart in the morning, to return into the land of the Philistines, —but, the Philistines, went up to Jezreel.
