1 Samuel 19
1 Saül parla à Jonathas, son fils, et à tous ses serviteurs de faire mourir David. Mais Jonathas, fils de Saül, avait une grande affection pour David.
And Saul speaks to his son Jonathan, and to all his servants, to put David to death,
2 Et Jonathas informa David en disant: « Saül, mon père, cherche à te faire mourir. Sois donc sur tes gardes demain au matin, tiens-toi à l’écart et cache-toi.
and Jonathan son of Saul delighted in David exceedingly, and Jonathan declares [it] to David, saying, “My father Saul is seeking to put you to death, and now, please take heed in the morning, and you have abided in a secret place and been hidden,
3 Moi, je sortirai et je me tiendrai à côté de mon père dans le champ où tu seras; je parlerai de toi à mon père, je verrai ce qu’il dira et je te le ferai savoir. »
and I go out, and have stood by the side of my father in the field where you [are], and I speak of you to my father, and have seen what [is coming], and have declared [it] to you.”
4 Jonathas parla favorablement de David à Saül, son père; il lui dit: « Que le roi ne pèche pas contre son serviteur David, car il n’a pas péché à ton égard. Ses actions, au contraire, sont toutes pour ton bien:
And Jonathan speaks good of David to his father Saul and says to him, “Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his works [are] very good for you;
5 il a exposé sa vie, il a frappé le Philistin, et Yahweh a opéré par lui une grande délivrance pour tout Israël. Tu l’as vu, et tu t’en es réjoui; pourquoi te rendrais-tu coupable du sang innocent, en faisant mourir David sans raison? »
indeed, he puts his life in his hand, and strikes the Philistine, and YHWH works a great salvation for all Israel; you have seen, and rejoice, and why do you sin against innocent blood, to put David to death for nothing?”
6 Saül écouta la voix de Jonathas, et Saül fit ce serment: « Yahweh est vivant! David ne sera pas mis à mort. »
And Saul listens to the voice of Jonathan, and Saul swears, “YHWH lives—he does not die.”
7 Jonathas appela David et Jonathas lui rapporta toutes ces paroles; puis Jonathas ramena David auprès de Saül, et David se tint en sa présence comme auparavant.
And Jonathan calls for David, and Jonathan declares all these words to him, and Jonathan brings in David to Saul, and he is before him as before.
8 La guerre ayant recommencé, David sortit contre les Philistins et leur livra bataille; il leur fit éprouver une grande défaite, et ils s’enfuirent devant lui.
And there adds to be war, and David goes out and fights against the Philistines, and strikes among them [with] a great striking, and they flee from his face.
9 Alors le mauvais esprit de Yahweh fut sur Saül, pendant qu’il était assis dans sa maison, sa lance à la main; et David jouait de la harpe avec sa main.
And a spirit of sadness [from] YHWH is to Saul, and he is sitting in his house, and his javelin [is] in his hand, and David is playing with the hand,
10 Saül chercha à frapper de sa lance David et le mur; mais David s’enfuit de devant Saül, qui frappa la lance contre le mur. David prit la fuite et s’échappa pendant la nuit.
and Saul seeks to strike with the javelin through David, and through the wall, and he frees himself from the presence of Saul, and he strikes the javelin through the wall; and David has fled and escapes during that night.
11 Saül envoya des messagers à la maison de David, pour s’assurer de lui et le faire mourir au matin; mais Michol, femme de David, l’en informa, en disant: « Si tu ne t’échappes pas cette nuit, demain tu es mis à mort. »
And Saul sends messengers to the house of David to watch him, and to put him to death in the morning; and his wife Michal declares [it] to David, saying, “If you are not delivering your life tonight—tomorrow you are put to death.”
12 Michol fit descendre David par la fenêtre, et David s’en alla et s’enfuit, et il fut sauvé.
And Michal causes David to go down through the window, and he goes on, and flees, and escapes;
13 Michol prit ensuite le théraphim et, l’ayant placé dans le lit, elle mit une peau de chèvre à l’endroit de sa tête, et le couvrit d’un vêtement.
and Michal takes the teraphim, and lays [it] on the bed, and she has put the mattress of goats’ [hair for] his pillows, and covers [it] with a garment.
14 Et lorsque Saül envoya des messagers pour prendre David, elle dit: « Il est malade. »
And Saul sends messengers to take David, and she says, “He [is] sick.”
15 Saül renvoya les messagers pour voir David, en disant: « Apportez-le-moi dans son lit, afin que je le fasse mourir. »
And Saul sends the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up in the bed to me in order to put him to death.”
16 Les messagers revinrent et voici que le théraphim était sur le lit avec une peau de chèvre à l’endroit de sa tête.
And the messengers come in, and behold, the teraphim [are] on the bed, and the mattress of goats’ [hair for] his pillows.
17 Et Saül dit à Michol: « Pourquoi m’as-tu trompé ainsi, et as-tu laissé aller mon ennemi, pour qu’il fût sauvé? » Michol répondit à Saül: « Il m’a dit: Laisse-moi aller, ou je te tue. »
And Saul says to Michal, “Why have you thus deceived me—that you send my enemy away, and he escapes?” And Michal says to Saul, “He said to me, Send me away. Why do I put you to death?”
18 C’est ainsi que David prit la fuite et fut sauvé. Il se rendit auprès de Samuel à Rama, et lui raconta tout ce que Saül lui avait fait. Puis il alla avec Samuel demeurer à Naioth.
And David has fled, and escapes, and comes to Samuel at Ramath, and declares to him all that Saul has done to him, and he goes, he and Samuel, and they dwell in Naioth.
19 On le fit savoir à Saül, en disant: « Voici que David est à Naioth, en Rama. »
And it is declared to Saul, saying, “Behold, David [is] in Naioth in Ramah.”
20 Aussitôt Saül envoya des messagers pour prendre David; ils virent la troupe de prophètes qui prophétisaient, et Samuel était debout, les présidant; et l’Esprit de Dieu fut sur les envoyés de Saül, qui eux aussi prophétisèrent.
And Saul sends messengers to take David, and they see the assembly of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing, set over them, and the Spirit of God is on Saul’s messengers, and they prophesy—they also.
21 On l’annonça à Saül, et il envoya d’autres messagers, et eux aussi prophétisèrent. Pour la troisième fois, Saül envoya des messagers, et eux aussi prophétisèrent.
And they declare [it] to Saul, and he sends other messengers, and they prophesy—they also; and Saul adds and sends messengers a third time, and they prophesy—they also.
22 Alors Saül alla, lui aussi, à Rama. Arrivé à la grande citerne qui est à Socho, il demanda: « Où sont Samuel et David? » On lui répondit: « Voici, ils sont à Naioth en Rama. »
And he goes—he also—to Ramath, and comes to the great well which [is] in Sechu, and asks and says, “Where [are] Samuel and David?” And [one] says, “Behold, in Naioth in Ramah.”
23 Et il se dirigea là, vers Naioth en Rama. L’Esprit de Dieu fut aussi sur lui, et il allait et il prophétisait, jusqu’à son arrivée à Naioth en Rama.
And he goes there—to Naioth in Ramah, and the Spirit of God is on him also; and he goes, going on, and he prophesies until his coming to Naioth in Ramah,
24 Là, ayant aussi ôté ses vêtements, il prophétisa, lui aussi, devant Samuel, et il resta nu par terre tout ce jour-là et toute la nuit. C’est pourquoi on dit: « Saül est-il aussi parmi les prophètes? »
and he strips off—he also—his garments, and prophesies—he also—before Samuel, and falls down naked all that day and all the night; therefore they say, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
