1 Rois 16

1 La parole de Yahweh fut adressée à Jéhu, fils de Hanani, contre Baasa, en ces termes:

And the word of the LORD came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasa, saying:

2 « Je t’ai élevé de la poussière et je t’ai établi chef de mon peuple d’Israël; mais tu as marché dans la voie de Jéroboam et tu as fait pécher mon peuple d’Israël, pour m’irriter par leurs péchés.

'Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the dust, and made thee prince over My people Israel; and thou hast walked in the way of Jeroboam, and hast made My people Israel to sin, to provoke Me with their sins;

3 C’est pourquoi voici que je vais balayer Baasa et sa maison, et je rendrai ta maison semblable à la maison de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat.

behold, I will utterly sweep away Baasa and his house; and I will make thy house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

4 Celui de la maison de Baasa qui mourra dans la ville sera mangé par les chiens, et celui des siens qui mourra dans les champs sera mangé par les oiseaux du ciel. »

Him that dieth of Baasa in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dieth of his in the field shall the fowls of the air eat.'

5 Le reste des actes de Baasa, ce qu’il a fait et ses exploits, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans la Chroniques des roi d’Israël?

Now the rest of the acts of Baasa, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

6 Baasa se coucha avec ses pères et il fut enterré à Thersa; et Ela, son fils, régna à sa place.

And Baasa slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah; and Elah his son reigned in his stead.

7 La parole de Yahweh fut aussi dirigée par l’organe du prophète Jéhu, fils de Hanani, contre Baasa et contre sa maison, soit à cause de tout le mal qu’il avait fait sous les yeux de Yahweh, en l’irritant par l’œuvre de ses mains et en devenant semblable à la maison de Jéroboam, soit encore parce qu’il avait frappé cette maison.

And moreover by the hand of the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of the LORD against Baasa, and against his house, both because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the LORD, to provoke Him with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he smote him.

8 La vingt-sixième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, Ela, fils de Baasa, devint roi d’Israël à Thersa, et il régna deux ans.

In the twenty and sixth year of Asa king of Judah began Elah the son of Baasa to reign over Israel in Tirzah, and reigned two years.

9 Son serviteur Zambri, chef de la moitié des chars, conspira contre lui. Ela était à Thersa, buvant et s’enivrant dans la maison d’Arsa, qui était préposé à la maison du roi à Thersa.

And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him; now he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, who was over the household in Tirzah;

10 Zambri entra, le frappa et le tua, la vingt-septième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, et il régna à sa place.

and Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.

11 Lorsqu’il fut devenu roi et qu’il fut assis sur son trône, il frappa toute la maison de Baasa, ne laissant vivre aucun enfant mâle, ni aucun de ses parents et de ses amis.

And it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he smote all the house of Baasa; he left him not a single man-child, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.

12 C’est ainsi que Zambri détruisit toute la maison de Baasa, selon la parole de Yahweh qu’il avait dite contre Baasa par l’organe de Jéhu, le prophète,

Thus did Zimri destroy all the house of Baasa, according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke against Baasa by Jehu the prophet,

13 à cause de tous les péchés que Baasa et Ela, son fils, avaient commis et qu’ils avaient fait commettre à Israël, irritant par leurs idoles Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël.

for all the sins of Baasa, and the sins of Elah his son, which they sinned, and wherewith they made Israel to sin, to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, with their vanities.

14 Le reste des actes d’Ela, et tout ce qu’il a fait, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?

Now the rest of the acts of Elah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

15 La vingt-septième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, Zambri fut roi pendant sept jours à Thersa. Le peuple était alors campé vis-à-vis de Gebbéthon, qui appartenait aux Philistins.

In the twenty and seventh year of Asa king of Judah did Zimri reign seven days in Tirzah. Now the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

16 Et le peuple qui campait apprit cette nouvelle: « Zambri a conspiré, et même il a tué le roi! » Le jour même, dans le camp, tout Israël établit pour roi d’Israël Amri, chef de l’armée.

And the people that were encamped heard say: 'Zimri hath conspired, and hath also smitten the king'; wherefore all Israel made Omri, the captain of the host, king over Israel that day in the camp.

17 Amri et tout Israël avec lui montèrent de Gebbéthon et vinrent assiéger Thersa.

And Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israel with him, and they besieged Tirzah.

18 Lorsqu’il vit la ville prise, Zambri se retira dans la citadelle de la maison du roi et brûla sur lui la maison du roi. C’est ainsi qu’il mourut,

And it came to pass, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the castle of the king's house, and burnt the king's house over him with fire, and died;

19 à cause des péchés qu’il avait commis, en faisant ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, et en marchant dans la voie de Jéroboam et dans le péché que Jéroboam avait commis pour faire pécher Israël.

for his sins which he sinned in doing that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he did, to make Israel to sin.

20 Le reste des actes de Zambri, et le complot qu’il forma, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?

Now the rest of the acts of Zimri, and his treason that he wrought, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

21 Le peuple d’Israël se divisa alors en deux partis: la moitié du peuple était pour Thebni, fils de Gineth, pour le faire roi, et l’autre moitié était pour Amri.

Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.

22 Ceux qui suivaient Amri l’emportèrent sur ceux qui suivaient Thebni, fils de Gineth. Thebni mourut, et Amri régna.

But the people that followed Omri prevailed against the people that followed Tibni the son of Ginath; so Tibni died, and Omri reigned.

23 La trente et unième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, Amri devint roi d’Israël, et il régna douze ans.

In the thirty and first year of Asa king of Judah began Omri to reign over Israel, and reigned twelve years; six years reigned he in Tirzah.

24 Lorsqu’il eut régné six ans à Thersa, il acheta de Somer la montagne de Samarie pour deux talents d’argent; puis il bâtit sur la montagne, et il donna à la ville qu’il avait bâtie le nom de Samarie, du nom de Somer, à qui la montagne appartenait.

And he bought the hill Samaria of Shemer for two talents of silver; and he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, after the name of Shemer, the owner of the hill, Samaria.

25 Amri fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, et il agit plus mal que tous ceux qui avaient régné avant lui.

And Omri did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and dealt wickedly above all that were before him.

26 Il marcha dans toute la voie de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, et dans les péchés que Jéroboam avait fait commettre à Israël, irritant par leurs idoles Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël.

For he walked in all the way of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and in his sins wherewith he made Israel to sin, to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, with their vanities.

27 Le reste des actes d’Amri, ce qu’il a fait, et les exploits qu’il a accomplis, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël?

Now the rest of the acts of Omri which he did, and his might that he showed, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

28 Amri se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré à Samarie. Achab, son fils, régna à sa place.

And Omri slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria; and Ahab his son reigned in his stead.

29 Achab, fils d’Amri, devint roi d’Israël la trente-huitième année d’Asa, roi de Juda, et Achab, fils d’Amri, régna vingt-deux ans sur Israël à Samarie.

And in the thirty and eighth year of Asa king of Judah began Ahab the son of Omri to reign over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years.

30 Achab, fils d’Amri, fit ce qui est mal aux yeux du Seigneur, plus que tous ceux qui avaient été avant lui.

And Ahab the son of Omri did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD above all that were before him.

31 Comme si c’eût été pour lui peu de chose de marcher dans les péchés de Jéroboam, fils de Nabat, il prit pour femme Jézabel, fille d’Ethbaal, roi des Sidoniens, et il alla servir Baal et se prosterner devant lui.

And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him.

32 Il éleva un autel à Baal dans la maison de Baal, qu’il bâtit à Samarie;

And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria.

33 Achab fit aussi l’aschérah. Achab fit plus encore que tous les rois d’Israël qui avaient été avant lui pour irriter Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël.

And Ahab made the Asherah; and Ahab did yet more to provoke the LORD, the God of Israel, than all the kings of Israel that were before him.

34 De son temps, Hiel de Béthel bâtit Jéricho; il en jeta les fondements au prix d’Abiram, son premier-né, et il en posa les portes au prix de Ségub, son dernier fils, selon la parole de Yahweh, qu’il avait dite par l’organe de Josué, fils de Nun.

In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho; with Abiram his first-born he laid the foundation thereof, and with his youngest son Segub he set up the gates thereof; according to the word of the LORD, which He spoke by the hand of Joshua the son of Nun.
