1 Dans ce temps-là, Abia, fils de Jéroboam, était devenu malade.

At that time, fell sick, Abijah son of Jeroboam.

2 Jéroboam dit à sa femme: « Lève-toi, je te prie, et déguise-toi pour qu’on ne sache pas que tu es la femme de Jéroboam, et va à Silo. Voici que là se trouve Ahias, le prophète, celui qui m’a dit que je serais roi sur ce peuple.

Then said Jeroboam to his wife—Arise, I pray thee, and feign thyself another, that it be not known, that, thou, art the wife of Jeroboam, —and thou shalt go thy way to Shiloh, lo! there, is Ahijah the prophet, who promised I should be king over this people;

3 Prends avec toi dix pains, des gâteaux et un vase de miel, et entre chez lui: il te dira ce qui doit arriver à l’enfant. »

and thou shall take with thee ten loaves, and cracknels, and a bottle of honey, and shalt go unto him, —he, will tell thee what shall befall the young man.

4 La femme de Jéroboam fit ainsi; s’étant levée, elle alla à Silo et entra dans la maison d’Ahias. Or Ahias ne pouvait plus voir, parce que la vieillesse avait obscurci ses yeux.

And the wife of Jeroboam, did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and entered the house of Ahijah, —now, Ahijah, could not see, for his eyes were fixed, by reason of his old age.

5 Yahweh avait dit à Ahias: « Voici que la femme de Jéroboam vient pour obtenir de toi une parole au sujet de son fils, qui est malade; tu lui parleras de telle et telle manière. Quand elle arrivera, elle se donnera pour une autre. »

But, Yahweh, had said unto Ahijah—Lo! the wife of Jeroboam, coming to enquire something of thee, concerning her son, for he is sick, thus and so, shalt thou speak unto her, —though, when she cometh in, she feign to be a stranger-woman.

6 Quand Ahias entendit le bruit de ses pas, au moment où elle franchissait la porte, il dit: « Entre, femme de Jéroboam; pourquoi te donnes-tu pour une autre? Je suis chargé pour toi d’un dur message.

So it came to pass, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet, as she entered the doorway, that he said—Come in, thou wife of Jeroboam, —wherefore, is it that thou art feigning to be a stranger-woman, seeing that, I, am sent unto thee, with something hard to bear?

7 Va, dis à Jéroboam: Ainsi parle Yahweh, Dieu d’Israël: Je t’ai élevé du milieu du peuple et je t’ai établi chef sur mon peuple d’Israël;

Go, say to Jeroboam—Thus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, Forasmuch as I exalted thee out of the midst of the people, —and gave thee to be leader over my people Israel;

8 j’ai arraché le royaume de la maison de David, et je te l’ai donné; mais tu n’as pas été comme mon serviteur David, qui a observé mes commandements et marché après moi de tout son cœur, ne faisant que ce qui est droit à mes yeux;

and rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to thee, —and yet thou hast not been like my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me, with all his heart, to do only that which was right in mine eyes;

9 mais tu as fait le mal plus que tous ceux qui ont été avant toi, tu es allé te faire d’autres dieux et des images de fonte pour m’irriter, et tu m’as rejeté derrière ton dos!

but hast made wicked thy doings beyond any who were before thee, —and hast gone and made thee ether gods, even molten images, to provoke me to anger, and hast cast, me, behind thy back,

10 C’est pourquoi voici que je vais faire venir le malheur sur la maison de Jéroboam; j’exterminerai tout mâle appartenant à Jéroboam, celui qui est esclave et celui qui est libre et Israël, et je balaierai la maison de Jéroboam, comme on balaie l’ordure, jusqu’à ce qu’il n’en reste plus.

therefore, behold me! bringing misfortune against the house of Jeroboam, and I will cut off the meanest pertaining to Jeroboam, whether shut up or left at large, in Israel, —and will consume after the house of Jeroboam, as one consumeth dung, till it be all gone:

11 Celui de la maison de Jéroboam qui mourra dans la ville sera mangé par les chiens, et celui qui mourra dans les champs sera mangé par les oiseaux du ciel: car Yahweh a parlé.

Him that dieth of Jeroboam in the city, shall, the dogs, eat, and, him that dieth in the field, shall, the birds of heaven, eat, —For, Yahweh, hath spoken.

12 Et toi, lève-toi, va dans ta maison; dès que tes pieds entreront dans la ville, l’enfant mourra.

Thou, therefore, arise, go to thine own house, —as thy feet are entering the city, the young man shall die.

13 Tout Israël le pleurera, et on l’enterrera car il est le seul de la maison de Jéroboam qui sera mis dans un sépulcre, parce qu’il est le seul de la maison de Jéroboam en qui se soit trouvé quelque chose de bon devant Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël.

Then shall all Israel lament for him, and bury him, for, this one, pertaining to Jeroboam, shall reach a burying-place, —because there hath been found in him something good toward Yahweh, God of Israel, in the house of Jeroboam.

14 Yahweh établira sur Israël un roi qui exterminera la maison de Jéroboam ce jour-là. Mais quoi? Déjà la chose arrive!

Therefore will Yahweh raise up for himself a king over Israel, who will cut off the house of Jeroboam, this day, but why, even now?

15 Yahweh frappera Israël, comme le roseau est agité au sein des eaux; il arrachera Israël de ce bon pays qu’il avait donné à leurs pères, et il les dispersera de l’autre côté du fleuve, parce qu’ils se sont fait des aschérahs, irritant Yahweh.

Therefore will Yahweh smite Israel, as a reed shaketh in water, and will root out Israel, from off this goodly soil, which he gave unto their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River (Euphrates), —because they have made their Sacred Stems, provoking Yahweh to anger:

16 Il livrera Israël à cause des péchés de Jéroboam qu’il a commis et qu’il a fait commettre à Israël. »

That he may deliver up Israel, —on account of the sin of Jeroboam, which he committed, and which he caused, Israel, to commit.

17 La femme de Jéroboam se leva et, s’étant mise en route, elle arriva à Thersa. Comme elle franchissait le seuil de la maison, l’enfant mourut.

Then arose the wife of Jeroboam, and went her way and entered Tirzah, —as, she, was coming into the entrance hall, the young man died.

18 On l’enterrera, et tout Israël le pleura, selon la parole que Yahweh avait dite par l’organe de son serviteur Ahias, le prophète.

And, when they buried him, all Israel lamented him, —according to the word of Yahweh, which he spake through his servant Ahijah the prophet.

19 Le reste des actes de Jéroboam, comment il fit la guerre et comment il régna, voici que cela est écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois d’Israël.

Now, the rest of the story of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold them! written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

20 Le temps que régna Jéroboam fut de vingt-deux ans, et il se coucha avec ses pères. Nadab, son fils, régna à sa place.

And, the days which Jeroboam reigned, were twenty-two years, —and he slept with his fathers, and, Nadab his son, reigned, in his stead.

21 Roboam, fils de Salomon, régna en Juda. Il avait quarante et un ans lorsqu’il devint roi, et il régna dix-sept ans à Jérusalem, la ville que Yahweh avait choisie parmi toutes les tribus d’Israël pour y mettre son nom. Sa mère s’appelait Naama, l’Ammonite.

And, Rehoboam, son of Solomon, reigned in Judah, —forty-one years old, was Rehoboam when he began to reign, and seventeen years, reigned he in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen to put his Name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and, his mother’s name, was Naamah, the Ammonitess.

22 Juda fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh et, par les péchés qu’ils commirent, ils excitèrent sa jalousie plus que ne l’avaient fait leurs pères.

And Judah did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, —and provoked him to jealousy, above all that their fathers had done, with their sins which they committed.

23 Ils se bâtirent, eux aussi, des hauts lieux avec des stèles et des aschérahs, sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert.

And, they also, built for themselves high places and pillars, and Sacred Stems, —upon every high hill, and under every green tree.

24 Il y eut même des prostitués dans le pays. Ils agirent selon toutes les abominations des nations que Yahweh avait chassées devant les enfants d’Israël.

Moreover also, there were, male devotees, in the land, —they did according to all the abominable practices of the nations, which Yahweh dispossessed from before the sons of Israel.

25 La cinquième année du règne de Roboam, Sésac, roi d’Égypte, monta contre Jérusalem.

And it came to pass, in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem;

26 Il prit les trésors de la maison de Yahweh et les trésors de la maison du roi: il prit tout. Il prit tous les boucliers d’or que Salomon avait faits.

and took away the treasures of the house of Yahweh, and the treasures of the house of the king, yea, the whole, took he away, —and took away all the bucklers of gold, which, Solomon, had made.

27 A leur place, le roi Roboam fit des boucliers d’airain, et il les remit aux mains des chefs des coureurs qui gardaient l’entrée de la maison du roi.

So King Rehoboam made, in their stead, bucklers of bronze, —and committed them unto the hand of the captains of the runners, who kept guard at the entrance of the house of the king.

28 Chaque fois que le roi allait à la maison de Yahweh, les coureurs les portaient; et ils les rapportaient ensuite dans la chambre des coureurs.

And so it was, whensoever the king went into the house of Yahweh, the runners bare them, and then brought them back into the chamber of the runners.

29 Le reste des actes de Roboam, et tout ce qu’il a fait, cela n’est-il pas écrit dans le livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda?

Now, the rest of the story of Rehoboam, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

30 Il y eut toujours guerre entre Roboam et Jéroboam.

And there was, war, between Rehoboam and Jeroboam, continually.

31 Roboam se coucha avec ses pères, et il fut enterré avec ses pères dans la ville de David. Sa mère s’appelait Naama, l’Ammonite; et Abiam, son fils, régna à sa place.

So then Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David, and, the name of his mother, was Naamah the Ammonitess, —and, Abijah his son, reigned, in his stead.
