1 Rois 1
1 Le roi David était vieux, avancé en âge; on le couvrait de vêtements, sans qu’il pût se réchauffer.
And kyng Dauid wax eld, and hadde ful many daies of age; and whanne he was hilid with clothis, he was not maad hoot.
2 Ses serviteurs lui dirent: « Que l’on cherche pour mon seigneur le roi une jeune fille vierge; qu’elle se tienne devant le roi et le soigne, et qu’elle couche dans ton sein, et mon seigneur le roi se réchauffera. »
Therfor hise seruauntis seiden to hym, Seke we to oure lord the kyng a yong wexynge virgyn; and stonde sche bifor the kyng, and nursche sche hym, and slepe in his bosum, and make hoot oure lord the kyng.
3 On chercha dans tout le territoire d’Israël une jeune fille qui fût belle, et l’on trouva Abisag, la Sunamite, que l’on amena au roi.
Therfor thei souyten a yong wexyng virgyn, fair in alle the coostis of Israel; and thei founden Abisag of Sunam, and thei brouyten hir to the kyng.
4 Cette jeune fille était fort belle; elle soigna le roi et le servit; mais le roi ne la connut point.
Forsothe the damysel was ful fair, and sche slepte with the kyng, and mynystride to hym; forsothe the king knew not hir fleischli.
5 Or Adonias, fils de Haggith, s’élevait dans ses pensées, disant: « C’est moi qui serai roi. » Et il se procura des chars et des chevaux, et cinquante hommes courant devant lui.
Sotheli Adonye, sone of Agith, was reisid, and seide, Y schal regne. And he made to hym a chare, and knyytis, and fifti men, that runnen bifor hym.
6 Et son père ne lui avait jamais fait de peine dans sa vie en lui disant: « Pourquoi agis-tu ainsi? » En outre, Adonias était très beau de figure, et sa mère l’avait enfanté après Absalom.
Nether his fadir repreuyde hym ony tyme, and seide, Whi `didist thou this? Forsothe also he was ful fair, the secounde child aftir Absolon; and his word was with Joab,
7 Il y eut des entretiens avec Joab, fils de Sarvia, et avec le prêtre Abiathar; et ils embrassèrent le parti d’Adonias.
sone of Saruye, and with `Abiathar, preest, that helpiden the partis of Adonye.
8 Mais le prêtre Sadoc, Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, Nathan le prophète, Séméï, Réï et les vaillants hommes de David ne furent pas avec Adonias.
Sotheli Sadoch, the preest, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Nathan, the prophete, and Semey, and Cerethi, and Ferethi, and al the strengthe of the oost of Dauid, weren not with Adonye.
9 Adonias immola des brebis, des bœufs et des veaux gras près de la pierre de Zohéleth, qui est à côté d’En-Rogel, et il invita tous ses frères, fils du roi, et tous les hommes de Juda, serviteurs du roi.
Therfor whanne rammes weren offrid, and caluys, and alle fatte thingis, bisidis the stoon Zoelech, that was nyy the welle of Rogel, Adonye clepide alle hise britheren, sones of the kyng, and alle the men of Juda, seruauntis of the kyng.
10 Mais il n’invita pas Nathan le prophète, ni Banaïas, ni les vaillants hommes, ni Salomon, son frère.
Sotheli `he clepide not Nathan, the profete, and Banaie, and alle stronge men, and Salomon, his brothir.
11 Alors Nathan dit à Bethsabée, mère de Salomon: « N’as-tu pas appris qu’Adonias, fils de Haggith, est devenu roi, sans que notre seigneur David le sache?
Therfor Nathan seide to Bersabee, modir of Salomon, Whether thou herdist, that Adonye, sone of Agith, regnede, and oure lord Dauid knoweth not this?
12 Viens donc maintenant, laisse-moi te donner un conseil, afin que tu sauves ta vie et celle de ton fils Salomon.
Now therfor come thou, take thou counsel of me, and saue thi lijf, and of Salomon thi sone.
13 Va, entre chez le roi David, et dis-lui: O roi, mon seigneur, n’as-tu pas fait serment à ta servante en disant: Salomon, ton fils, régnera après moi, et c’est lui qui s’assiéra sur mon trône? Pourquoi donc Adonias est-il devenu roi?
Go thou, and entre to kyng Dauid, and seie thou to hym, Whether not thou, my lord the kyng, hast swore to me, thin handmaide, and seidist, that Salomon thi sone schal regne aftir me, and he schal sitte in my trone?
14 Et voici, pendant que tu parleras là avec le roi, j’entrerai après toi, et je confirmerai tes paroles. »
Whi therfor regneth Adonye? And yit while thou schalt speke there with the kyng, Y schal come aftir thee, and `Y schal fille thi wordis.
15 Bethsabée se rendit auprès du roi, dans sa chambre; le roi était très vieux, et Abisag, la Sunamite, servait le roi.
Therfor Bersabee entride to the kyng in the closet; forsothe the kyng was ful eeld, and Abisag of Sunam `mynystride to hym.
16 Bethsabée s’inclina et se prosterna devant lui, et le roi dit: « Que veux-tu? »
Bersabee bowide hir silf, and worschipide the kyng; to whom the kyng seide, What wolt thou to thee?
17 Elle lui répondit: « Mon seigneur, tu as fait serment à ta servante par Yahweh, ton Dieu, en disant: Salomon, ton fils, régnera après moi, et c’est lui qui sera assis sur mon trône.
And sche answeride, and seide, My lord the kyng, thou hast swore to thin handmaide bi thi Lord God, Salomon thy sone schal regne aftir me, and he schal sitte in my trone;
18 Et maintenant, voici qu’Adonias est devenu roi, et cependant, toi, ô roi mon seigneur, tu l’ignores!
and lo! Adonye hath regnede now, `while thou, my lord the kyng, knowist not;
19 Il a immolé des bœufs, des veaux gras et des brebis en grand nombre; et il a invité tous les fils du roi, le prêtre Abiathar, et Joab, chef de l’armée, mais il n’a pas invité Salomon, ton serviteur.
he hath slayn oxis, and alle fatte thingis, and ful many rammes; and he clepide alle the sones of the king, also `Abiathar preest, and Joab, the prince of chyualri; but he clepide not Salomon, thi seruaunt.
20 Cependant, ô roi mon seigneur, tout Israël a les yeux sur toi, pour que tu fasses connaître qui doit s’asseoir sur le trône du roi mon seigneur après lui.
Netheles, my lord the kyng, the iyen of al Israel biholden in to thee, that thou schewe to hem, who owith to sitte in thi trone, my lord the kyng, aftir thee;
21 Autrement, lorsque le roi mon seigneur sera couché avec ses pères, il arrivera que nous serons, moi et mon fils Salomon, traités comme des criminels. »
and it schal be, whanne my lord the kyng hath slepte with hise fadris, Y and my sone Salomon schulen be synneris.
22 Comme elle parlait encore avec le roi, voici que Nathan, le prophète, arriva.
`While sche spak yit with the king, Nathan, the prophete, cam.
23 On l’annonça au roi, en disant: « Voici Nathan, le prophète. » Il entra en présence du roi et se prosterna devant lui, le visage contre terre;
And thei telden to the kyng, and seiden, Nathan, the prophete, is present. And whanne he hadde entrid in the siyt of the kyng, and hadde worschipide hym lowli to erthe,
24 et Nathan dit: « O roi, mon seigneur, tu as donc dit: Adonias régnera après moi et il s’assiéra sur mon trône!
Nathan seide, My lord the kyng, seidist thou, Adonye regne aftir me, and sitte he on my trone?
25 Car il est descendu aujourd’hui, il a immolé des bœufs, des veaux gras et des brebis en quantité, et il a invité tous les fils du roi, les chefs de l’armée et le prêtre Abiathar. Et voici qu’ils mangent et boivent devant lui, et ils disent: Vive le roi Adonias!
For he cam doun to dai, and offride oxis, and fatte thingis, and ful many wetheris; and he clepide alle the sones of the kyng, also Abiathar, preest; and whanne thei eten, and drunken bifor hym, and seiden, Kyng Adonye lyue;
26 Mais il n’a invité ni moi, ton serviteur, ni le prêtre Sadoc, ni Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, ni Salomon, ton serviteur.
he clepide not me, thi seruaunt, and Sadoch, preest, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Salomon, thi sone.
27 Est-ce bien par la volonté de mon seigneur le roi qu’une telle chose a lieu, sans que tu aies fait connaître à tes serviteurs qui doit s’asseoir sur le trône du roi mon seigneur, après lui? »
Whether this word yede out fro my lord the kyng, and thou schewidist not to me, thi seruaunt, who schulde sitte on the trone of my lord the king after hym?
28 Le roi David répondit et dit: « Appelez-moi Bethsabée. » Elle entra devant le roi et se présenta devant le roi.
And kyng Dauid answeride, and seide, Clepe ye Bersabee to me. And whanne sche hadde entrid bifor the kyng, and hadde stonde bifor hym, the kyng swoor,
29 Et le roi fit ce serment: « Vive Yahweh qui m’a délivré de toutes les adversités!
and seide, The Lord lyueth, that delyueryde my lijf fro al angwisch;
30 Ce que je t’ai juré par Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël, en disant: Salomon, ton fils, régnera après moi, et il s’assiéra sur mon trône à ma place, — je le ferai en ce jour. »
for as Y swore to thee bi the Lord God of Israel, and seide, Salomon, thi sone, schal regne after me, and he schal sitte on my trone for me, so Y schal do to dai.
31 Bethsabée s’inclina le visage contre terre et se prosterna devant le roi; et elle dit: « Vive à jamais mon seigneur, le roi David! »
And Bersabee, with the cheer cast doun in to erthe, worschipide the kyng, and seide, My lord the kyng Dauid lyue with outen ende.
32 Le roi David dit: « Appelez-moi le prêtre Sadoc, Nathan le prophète, et Banaïas, fils de Joïadas. » Lorsqu’ils furent entrés en présence du roi,
And kyng Dauid seide, Clepe ye Sadoch, the preest, to me, and Nathan, the prophete, and Banaie, sone of Joiada. And whanne thei hadden entrid bifor the kyng,
33 le roi leur dit: « Prenez avec vous les serviteurs de votre maître, faites monter mon fils Salomon sur ma mule, et vous le ferez descendre à Gihon.
the kyng seide to hem, Take with you the seruauntis of youre lord, and putte ye my sone Salomon on my mule, and lede ye hym in to Gyon.
34 Là, le prêtre Sadoc et Nathan le prophète l’oindront pour roi sur Israël; et vous sonnerez de la trompette et vous direz: Vive le roi Salomon!
And Sadoch, the preest, and Nathan, the profete, anoynte hym in to kyng on Israel and Juda; and ye schulen synge with a clarioun, and ye schulen seie, Lyue kyng Salomon!
35 Puis vous remonterez après lui; il viendra s’asseoir sur mon trône, et il régnera à ma place, car c’est lui que j’établis pour être chef d’Israël et de Juda. »
Ye schulen stie aftir hym, and ye schulen come to Jerusalem; and he schal sitte on my trone, and he schal regne for me; and Y schal comaunde to hym, that he be duyk on Israel and on Juda.
36 Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, répondit au roi: « Amen! Qu’ainsi l’ordonne Yahweh, le Dieu de mon seigneur le roi!
And Banaie, sone of Joiada, answeride to the kyng, and seide, Amen, `that is, so be it, ether verili, ether feithfuli; so speke the Lord God of my lord the kyng.
37 Comme Yahweh a été avec mon seigneur le roi, qu’il soit de même avec Salomon, et qu’il élève son trône au-dessus du trône de mon seigneur le roi David! »
As the Lord was with my lord the kyng, so be he with Salomon, and make he the trone of Salomon heiyere than the trone of my lord the kyng Dauid.
38 Le prêtre Sadoc descendit avec Nathan le prophète, Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens, et, ayant fait monter Salomon sur la mule du roi David, ils le menèrent à Gihon.
Therfor Sadoch, the preest, yede doun, and Nathan, the prophete, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Cerethi, and Ferethi; and thei puttiden Salomon on the mule of Dauid, the kyng, and thei brouyten hym in to Gion.
39 Le prêtre Sadoc prit dans le tabernacle la corne d’huile, et il oignit Salomon; on sonna de la trompette et tout le peuple dit: « Vive le roi Salomon! »
And Sadoch, the preest, took an horn of oile of the tabernacle, and anoyntide Salomon; and thei sungen with a clarioun; and al the puple seide, Lyue kyng Salomon!
40 Puis tout le peuple monta après lui. Le peuple jouait de la flûte et se livrait à une grande joie; la terre se fendait au bruit de leurs clameurs.
And al the multitude stiede after hym, and the puple of men syngynge with pipis, and `of men beynge glad with greet ioye, `stiede aftir hym; and the erthe sownede of the cry of hem.
41 Adonias entendis ce bruit, ainsi que tous les conviés qui étaient avec lui, au moment où ils achevaient leur festin. En entendant le son de la trompette, Joab dit: « Pourquoi ce bruit de la ville en émoi? »
Forsothe Adonye herde, and alle that weren clepid of hym to feeste; and thanne the feeste was endid. But also Joab seide, whanne the vois of trumpe was herd, What wole it to it silf the cry of the citee makynge noise?
42 Il parlait encore, et voici que Jonathas, fils de prêtre Abiathar, arriva. Adonias lui dit: « Viens, car tu es un brave et porteur de bonnes nouvelles. »
Yit the while he spak, Jonathan, sone of Abiathar, the preest, cam; to whom Adonye seide, Entre thou, for thou art a strong man, and tellynge goode thingis.
43 Jonathas répondit et dit à Adonias: « Oui, vraiment! notre seigneur le roi David a fait roi Salomon.
And Jonathan answeride to Adonye, Nay; for oure lord the kyng Dauid hath ordeyned Salomon kyng;
44 Le roi a envoyé avec lui le prêtre Sadoc, Nathan le prophète, Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, les Céréthiens et les Phéléthiens, et ils l’ont fait monter sur la mule du roi.
and Dauid sente with Salomon Sadoch, the preest, and Nathan, the prophete, and Banaie, sone of Joiada, and Cerethi, and Ferethi; and thei puttiden Salomon on the mule of the kyng.
45 Le prêtre Sadoc et Nathan le prophète l’ont oint pour roi à Gihon; de là ils sont remontés remontés joyeux, et la ville est en émoi: c’est là le bruit que vous avez entendu.
And Sadoch, the preest, and Nathan, the prophete, anoyntiden hym kyng in Gion; and thei camen doun fro thennus beynge glad, and the citee sownede; this is the vois which ye herden.
46 Salomon s’est même assis sur le trône royal.
But also Salomon sittith on the trone of rewme;
47 Et même les serviteurs du roi sont venus pour bénir notre seigneur le roi David, en disant: Que ton Dieu rende le nom de Salomon plus grand que ton nom, et qu’il élève son trône au-dessus de ton trône! Et le roi s’est prosterné sur son lit.
and the seruauntis of the kyng entriden, and blessiden oure lord the kyng Dauid, and seiden, God make large the name of Salomon aboue thi name, and magnyfye his trone aboue thi trone. And kyng Dauid worschipide in his bed;
48 Et même le roi a parlé ainsi: Béni soit Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël, qui m’a donné aujourd’hui un successeur sur mon trône, afin que je puisse le voir de mes yeux!»
and ferthermore he spak these thingis, Blessid be the Lord God of Israel, that yaf to dai a sittere in my trone, while myn iyen seen.
49 Tous les conviés d’Adonias furent saisis de terreur; ils se levèrent et s’en allèrent chacun de son côté.
Therfor alle, that weren clepid of Adonye to feeste, weren aferd, and risiden, and ech man yede in to his weie.
50 Adonias, ayant peur de Salomon, se leva et s’en alla, et il saisit les cornes de l’autel.
Sotheli Adonye dredde Salomon, and roos, and yede in to the tabernacle of the Lord, and helde the horn of the auter.
51 On l’annonça à Salomon en ces termes: « Voici qu’Adonias a peur du roi Salomon, et voici qu’il a saisi les cornes de l’autel en disant: Que le roi Salomon me jure aujourd’hui qu’il ne fera pas mourir son serviteur par l’épée! »
And thei telden to Salomon, and seiden, Lo! Adonye dredith the kyng Salomon, and holdith the horn of the auter, and seith, Kyng Salomon swere to me to dai, that he schal not sle his seruaunt bi swerd.
52 Salomon dit: « S’il se montre homme brave, il ne tombera pas à terre un de ses cheveux; mais s’il se trouve du mal en lui, il mourra. »
And Salomon seide, If he is a good man, sotheli not oon heer of hym schal falle in to erthe; but if yuel be foundun in hym, he schal die.
53 Et le roi Salomon envoya des gens qui le firent descendre d’auprès de l’autel. Et Adonias vint se prosterner devant le roi Salomon; et Salomon lui dit: « Va dans ta maison. »
Therfor kyng Salomon sente, and ledde `hym out fro the auter; and he entride, and worschipide kyng Salomon; and Salomon seide to hym, Go in to thin hows.
