1 Chroniques 23
1 David, vieux et rassasié de jours, établit Salomon, son fils, roi sur Israël.
And David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel in his stead.
2 Il réunit tous les chefs d’Israël, les prêtres et les lévites.
And he assembled all the chief men of Israel, and the priests, and the Levites.
3 On compta les lévites, depuis l’âge de trente ans et au-dessus; leur nombre, par tête et par hommes, fut de trente huit mille.
And the Levites numbered [themselves] from thirty years old and upward; and their number by their polls amounted to thirty and eight thousand men.
4 Et David dit: « De ceux-là, que vingt-quatre mille soient préposés aux offices de la maison de Yahweh, que six mille soient scribes et magistrats,
Of the overseers over the works of the house of the Lord [there were] twenty-four thousand, and [there were] six thousand scribes and judges;
5 quatre mille portiers, et que quatre mille louent Yahweh avec les instruments que j’ai faits pour le louer. »
and four thousand doorkeepers, and four thousand to praise the Lord with instruments which he made to praise the Lord.
6 David les distribua en classes, d’après les fils de Lévi: Gerson, Caath et Mérari.
And David divided them [into] daily courses, for the sons of Levi, for Gedson, Caath, and Merari.
7 Des Gersonites: Léédan et Séméï. —
And for [the family of] Gedson, Edan, and Semei.
8 Fils de Léédan: le chef Jahiel, Zétham et Joël: trois.
The sons of Edan [were] Jeiel, the chief, and Zethan, and Joel, three.
9 Fils de Séméï: Salomith, Hoziel et Aran: trois. Ce sont là les chefs de famille issus de Léédan. —
The sons of Semei; Salomith, Jeiel, and Dan, three: these [were] the chiefs of the families of Edan.
10 Fils de Séméï: Léheth, Ziza, Jaüs et Baria. Ce sont là les quatre fils de Séméï;
And to the sons of Semei, Jeth, and Ziza, and Joas, and Beria: these [were] the four sons of Semei.
11 Léheth était le chef, et Ziza le second; Jaüs et Baria n’eurent pas beaucoup de fils et ils furent comptés, selon leur famille, en une classe.
And Jeth was the chief, and Ziza the second: and Joas and Beria did not multiply sons, and they became [only] one reckoning according to the house of their father.
12 Fils de Caath: Amram, Isaar, Hébron et Oziel: quatre. —
The sons of Caath; Ambram, Isaar, Chebron, Oziel, four.
13 Fils d’Amram: Aaron et Moïse. Aaron fut mis à part pour qu’on le sanctifie comme très saint, lui et ses fils à jamais, afin de faire fumer les parfums devant Yahweh, de faire son service et de bénir en son nom à jamais.
The sons of Ambram; Aaron and Moses: and Aaron was appointed for the consecration of the most holy things, he and his sons for ever, to burn incense before the Lord, to minister and bless in his name for ever.
14 Quant à Moïse, homme de Dieu, ses fils furent comptés dans la tribu de Lévi.
And [as for] Moses the man of God, his sons were reckoned to the tribe of Levi.
15 Fils de Moïse: Gersom et Eliézer. —
The sons of Moses; Gersam, and Eliezer.
16 Fils de Gersom: Subuël, le chef. —
The sons of Gersam; Subael the chief.
17 Les fils d’Eliézer furent: Rohobia, le chef; Eliézer n’eut pas d’autre fils, mais les fils de Rohobia furent très nombreux. —
And the sons of Eliezer were, Rabia the chief: and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rabia were very greatly multiplied.
18 Fils d’Isaar: Salomith, le chef. —
The sons of Isaar; Salomoth the chief.
19 Fils d’Hébron: Jériaü, le chef; Amarias, le second; Jahaziel, le troisième et Jecmaam, le quatrième, —
The sons of Chebron; Jeria the chief, Amaria the second, Jeziel the third, Jekemias the fourth.
20 Fils d’Oziel: Micha, le chef; Jésia, le second.
The sons of Oziel; Micha the chief, and Isia the second.
21 Fils de Mérari: Moholi et Musi. — Fils de Moholi: Eléazar et Cis.
The sons of Merari; Mooli, and Musi: the sons of Mooli; Eleazar, and Kis.
22 Eléazar mourut sans avoir de fils, mais seulement des filles; les fils de Cis, leurs frères, les prirent pour femmes. —
And Eleazar died, and he had no sons, but daughters: and the sons of Kis, their brethren, took them.
23 Fils de Musi: Molohi, Eder et Jérimoth: trois.
The sons of Musi; Mooli, and Eder, and Jarimoth, three.
24 Ce sont là les fils de Lévi selon leurs familles, les chefs de famille selon qu’ils furent dénombrés, nommément comptés par tête; ils faisaient l’œuvre du service de la maison de Yahweh, depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus.
These [are] the sons of Levi according to the houses of their fathers; chiefs of their families according to their numbering, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, doing the works of service of the house of the Lord, from twenty years old and upward.
25 Car David dit: « Yahweh, le Dieu d’Israël, a donné le repos à son peuple, et il habitera pour toujours à Jérusalem;
For David said, The Lord God of Israel has given rest to his people, and has taken up his abode in Jerusalem for ever.
26 et quant aux lévites, ils n’auront plus à porter la Demeure et tous les ustensiles pour son service. »
And the Levites bore not the tabernacle, and all the vessels of it for its service.
27 Ce fut d’après les derniers ordres de David que se fit le dénombrement des fils de Lévi depuis l’âge de vingt ans et au-dessus.
For by the last words of David was the number of the Levites [taken] from twenty years old and upward.
28 Car leur fonction était de se mettre à la disposition des fils d’Aaron pour le service de la maison de Yahweh, concernant les parvis et les chambres, la purification de toutes les choses saintes, et l’œuvre du service de la maison de Dieu;
For he appointed them to wait on Aaron, to minister in the house of the Lord, over the courts, and over the chambers, and over the purification of all the holy things, and over the works of the service of the house of God;
29 concernant les pains de proposition, la fleur de farine pour les oblations, les galettes sans levain, ce qui est cuit sur la poêle et ce qui est mélangé, tout ce qu’il y avait à peser et à mesurer.
and for the show-bread, and for the fine flour of the meat-offering, and for the unleavened cakes, and for the fried cake, and for the dough, and for every measure;
30 Ils avaient à se présenter chaque matin et chaque soir, afin de célébrer et louer Yahweh,
and to stand in the morning to praise and give thanks to the Lord, and so in the evening;
31 et d’offrir tous les holocaustes à Yahweh dans les sabbats, les nouvelles lunes et les fêtes, selon le nombre que la loi prescrit d’offrir à perpétuité devant Yahweh.
and [to be] over all the whole burnt offerings that were offered up to the Lord on the sabbaths, and at the new moons, and at the feasts, by number, according to the order [given] to them, continually before the Lord.
32 Ils devaient s’appliquer au soin de la tente de réunion, au soin des choses saintes et au soin des fils d’Aaron, leurs frères, pour le service de la maison de Yahweh.
And they are to keep the charge of the tabernacle of witness, and the charge of the holy place, and the charges of the sons of Aaron their brethren, to minister in the house of the Lord.
