1 Rappelez-leur d'être soumis aux chefs et aux autorités, d'être obéissants, d'être prêts à toute bonne œuvre,
Remind them to submit to the governments, authorities, to obey the rule over them, to be ready unto every good work,
2 de ne dire du mal de personne, de ne pas être querelleurs, d'être doux, en montrant toute humilité envers tous les hommes.
to speak evil of no one, that they should be peaceable, gentle, showing all meekness to all men.
3 Car nous aussi, nous avons été autrefois insensés, désobéissants, trompés, asservis à des convoitises et à des plaisirs divers, vivant dans la malice et l'envie, haineux et nous haïssant les uns les autres.
For when we also were without understanding, being disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in sin and envy, hateful, hating one another;
4 Mais, lorsque la bonté de Dieu notre Sauveur et son amour pour les hommes sont apparus,
but when the goodness and philanthropy of God our Saviour appeared,
5 non pas par des œuvres de justice que nous aurions faites nous-mêmes, mais selon sa miséricorde, il nous a sauvés par le lavage de la régénération et le renouvellement par le Saint-Esprit,
not from works which are in righteousness, which we did, but according to his own mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and the renewal of the Holy Ghost,
6 qu'il a répandu sur nous abondamment par Jésus-Christ notre Sauveur;
whom he poured out on us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 afin que, justifiés par sa grâce, nous soyons faits héritiers selon l'espérance de la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
in order that, being justified by his faith, we may be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (aiōnios g166)
8 Cette parole est fidèle, et je désire que, sur ces choses, vous insistiez avec assurance, afin que ceux qui ont cru en Dieu aient soin de conserver de bonnes œuvres. Ces choses sont bonnes et profitables aux hommes;
The word is faithful, and I wish you to be established concerning these things, in order that those having believed in God may think to excel in good works. These things are beautiful and useful to the people:
9 mais évitez les interrogations insensées, les généalogies, les querelles et les disputes au sujet de la loi, car elles sont inutiles et vaines.
but reject foolish questions, and genealogies, and strife, and controversies about law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
10 Évitez un homme factieux, après un premier et un second avertissement,
Reject a heretical man after the first and second admonition;
11 sachant qu'un tel homme est perverti et pécheur, et qu'il se condamne lui-même.
knowing that such an one is turned away, and is sinning, being self-condemned.
12 Lorsque je vous enverrai Artémas ou Tychique, ayez soin de venir me rejoindre à Nicopolis, car j'ai décidé d'y passer l'hiver.
When I shall send Artemas or Tychicus to you, hasten to come to me at Nicopolis: for I have determined to spend the winter there.
13 Envoyez promptement Zénas, le juriste, et Apollos, afin que rien ne leur manque.
Send on Zenas the lawyer and Apollos speedily, in order that nothing may be lacking to them.
14 Que notre peuple apprenne aussi à entretenir de bonnes œuvres pour subvenir aux besoins nécessaires, afin qu'il ne soit pas infructueux.
And let our people indeed learn to excel in good works for necessary uses, in order that they may not be unfruitful.
15 Tous ceux qui sont avec moi vous saluent. Saluez ceux qui nous aiment dans la foi. Que la grâce soit avec vous tous. Amen.
All who are with me salute you. Salute those who love us with the love of friendship in the faith. Grace be with you all.
