Ruth 4
1 Or Boaz monta à la porte et s'y assit. Et voici qu'arrive le proche parent dont Boaz avait parlé. Boaz lui dit: « Viens ici, mon ami, et assieds-toi. » Il s'approcha et s'assit.
Now Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. Soon, the near kinsman of whom Boaz had spoken came by. Boaz said to him, “My friend, come over and sit down here.” The man came over and sat down.
2 Boaz prit dix hommes parmi les anciens de la ville, et dit: « Assieds-toi ici. » Et ils s'assirent.
Then Boaz took ten men of the elders of the city and said, “Sit down here.” So they sat down.
3 Il dit au parent le plus proche: « Naomi, qui est revenue du pays de Moab, vend la parcelle de terre qui appartenait à notre frère Elimelech.
Boaz said to the near kinsman, “Naomi, who has returned from the country of Moab, is selling the parcel of land that was our brother Elimelek's.
4 J'ai pensé que je devais te le dire, en disant: « Achète-le devant ceux qui sont assis ici, et devant les anciens de mon peuple. Si tu veux la racheter, rachète-la; mais si tu ne veux pas la racheter, dis-le moi, pour que je le sache. Car il n'y a personne d'autre que toi pour la racheter, et je suis après toi. » Il a dit: « Je vais la racheter. »
I thought to inform you and say to you, 'Buy it in the presence of those who are sitting here, and in the presence of the elders of my people.' If you wish to redeem it, redeem it. But if you do not wish to redeem it, then tell me, so that I may know, for there is no one to redeem it besides you, and I am after you.” Then the other man said, “I will redeem it.”
5 Et Boaz dit: « Le jour où tu achèteras le champ de la main de Naomi, tu devras l'acheter aussi de Ruth la Moabite, la femme du mort, pour relever le nom du mort sur son héritage. »
Then Boaz said, “On the day that you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you must also take Ruth the Moabite woman, the widow of a dead man, in order to raise up the name of the dead on his inheritance.”
6 Le proche parent dit: « Je ne peux pas le racheter pour moi-même, de peur de mettre en danger mon propre héritage. Prends pour toi mon droit de rachat, car je ne peux pas le racheter. »
Then the near kinsman said, “I cannot redeem it for myself without damaging my own inheritance. You take my right of redemption for yourself, for I cannot redeem it.”
7 Or voici comment on procédait autrefois en Israël pour racheter et pour échanger, afin de confirmer toutes choses: un homme ôtait sa sandale et la donnait à son prochain; et c'était ainsi qu'on officialisait les transactions en Israël.
Now this was the custom in former times in Israel concerning the redemption and exchange of goods. To confirm all things, a man took off his shoe and gave it to his neighbor; this was the manner of making legal agreements in Israel.
8 Le proche parent dit à Boaz: « Achète-le pour toi », et il ôta sa sandale.
So the near kinsman said to Boaz, “Buy it for yourself,” and he took off his sandal.
9 Boaz dit aux anciens et à tout le peuple: « Vous êtes témoins aujourd'hui que j'ai acheté de la main de Naomi tout ce qui appartenait à Elimélek, à Chilion et à Mahlon.
Then Boaz said to the elders and to all the people, “You are witnesses today that I have bought all that was Elimelek's and all that was Kilion's and Mahlon's from the hand of Naomi.
10 De plus, j'ai acheté Ruth la Moabite, femme de Mahlon, pour en faire ma femme, afin de relever le nom du défunt sur son héritage, pour que le nom du défunt ne soit pas retranché du milieu de ses frères et de la porte de son lieu. Vous êtes aujourd'hui témoins. »
Also Ruth the Moabite woman, the wife of Mahlon, I have acquired to be my wife, in order that I might raise up the name of the dead man on his inheritance, so that his name will not be cut off from among his brothers and from the gate of his place. Today you are witnesses!”
11 Tout le peuple qui était à la porte, et les anciens, dirent: « Nous sommes témoins. Que l'Éternel rende la femme qui est entrée dans ta maison semblable à Rachel et à Léa, qui toutes deux ont bâti la maison d'Israël; qu'il te traite dignement à Éphrata, et qu'il soit célèbre à Bethléem.
All the people who were in the gate and the elders said, “We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and Leah, the two who built up the house of Israel; and may you prosper in Ephrathah and be renowned in Bethlehem.
12 Que ta maison soit semblable à la maison de Pérez, que Tamar a enfanté à Juda, de la descendance que Yahvé te donnera par cette jeune femme. »
May your house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bore to Judah, through the offspring that Yahweh will give you with this young woman.”
13 Et Boaz prit Ruth, et elle devint sa femme; il alla vers elle, et Yahvé lui permit de concevoir, et elle enfanta un fils.
So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. He slept with her, and Yahweh allowed her to become pregnant, and she bore a son.
14 Les femmes dirent à Naomi: « Béni soit Yahvé, qui ne t'a pas laissé aujourd'hui sans parent proche. Que son nom soit célèbre en Israël.
The women said to Naomi, “May Yahweh be blessed, who has not left you today without a near kinsman, this baby. May his name be famous in Israel.
15 Il te rendra la vie et te soutiendra dans ta vieillesse, car ta belle-fille, qui t'aime et qui vaut mieux pour toi que sept fils, lui a donné naissance. »
May he be for you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.”
16 Naomi prit l'enfant, le coucha dans son sein et en prit soin.
Naomi took the child, laid him in her bosom, and took care of him.
17 Les femmes, ses voisines, lui donnèrent un nom, en disant: « Un fils est né à Naomi ». Elles lui donnèrent le nom d'Obed. Il est le père de Jessé, le père de David.
The women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi.” They named him Obed. He became the father of Jesse, who became the father of David.
18 Et voici l'histoire des générations de Pérez: Pérez engendra Hetsron,
Now these were the descendants of Perez: Perez became the father of Hezron,
19 et Hetsron engendra Ram, et Ram engendra Amminadab,
Hezron became the father of Ram, Ram became the father of Amminadab,
20 et Amminadab engendra Nahshon, et Nahshon engendra Salmon,
Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, Nahshon became the father of Salmon,
21 et Salmon engendra Boaz, et Boaz engendra Obed,
Salmon became the father of Boaz, Boaz became the father of Obed,
22 et Obed engendra Isaï, et Isaï engendra David.
Obed became the father of Jesse, and Jesse became the father of David.
