Ruth 3
1 Naomi, sa belle-mère, lui dit: « Ma fille, ne chercherai-je pas pour toi le repos, afin que tu sois heureuse?
And Naomi her mother-in-law said to her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?
2 N'est-ce pas Boaz, notre parent, avec les jeunes filles duquel tu étais? Voici qu'il va vanner l'orge cette nuit sur l'aire de battage.
And now, is not Boaz of our kindred, with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he is winnowing barley in the threshing-floor to-night.
3 C'est pourquoi tu te laveras, tu t'oindras, tu t'habilleras et tu descendras à l'aire; mais ne te fais pas connaître à cet homme avant qu'il ait fini de manger et de boire.
Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thyself, and put thy raiment upon thee, and go down to the floor; make not thyself known to the man, until he shall have done eating and drinking.
4 Lorsqu'il se couchera, tu remarqueras le lieu où il est couché. Puis tu entreras, tu découvriras ses pieds et tu te coucheras. Il te dira alors ce que tu dois faire. »
And it shall be, when he lies down, that thou shalt mark the place where he shall have lain down, and thou shalt go in, and uncover his feet, and lay thyself down; and he will shew thee what thou shalt do.
5 Elle lui répondit: « Tout ce que tu dis, je le ferai. »
And she said to her, All that thou sayest will I do.
6 Elle descendit à l'aire de battage et fit tout ce que sa belle-mère lui avait dit.
And she went down to the floor, and did according to all that her mother-in-law had bidden her.
7 Lorsque Boaz eut mangé et bu, et que son cœur fut joyeux, il alla se coucher à l'extrémité du tas de blé. Elle vint doucement, lui découvrit les pieds et se coucha.
And Boaz ate and drank, and his heart was merry, and he went to lie down at the end of the heap of corn. Then she went softly, and uncovered his feet, and laid herself down.
8 A minuit, l'homme fut surpris et se retourna; et voici qu'une femme était couchée à ses pieds.
And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was startled, and turned himself; and behold, a woman lay at his feet.
9 Il dit: « Qui es-tu? » Elle répondit: « Je suis Ruth, ta servante. Étends donc le coin de ton vêtement sur ta servante, car tu es un proche parent. »
And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth, thy handmaid: spread thy skirt over thy handmaid; for thou hast the right of redemption.
10 Il dit: « Tu es bénie par Yahvé, ma fille. Tu as montré plus de bonté à la fin qu'au début, parce que tu n'as pas suivi les jeunes gens, qu'ils soient pauvres ou riches.
And he said, Blessed be thou of Jehovah, my daughter! Thou hast shewn more kindness at the end than at the first, inasmuch as thou followedst not young men, whether poor or rich.
11 Maintenant, ma fille, n'aie pas peur. Je te ferai tout ce que tu me diras, car toute la ville de mon peuple sait que tu es une femme de valeur.
And now, my daughter, fear not: all that thou sayest will I do to thee; for all the gate of my people knows that thou art a woman of worth.
12 Il est vrai que je suis un proche parent. Mais il y a un parent plus proche que moi.
And now, truly I am one that has the right of redemption, yet there is one that has the right of redemption who is nearer than I.
13 Reste cette nuit, et demain matin, s'il veut jouer pour toi le rôle d'un parent, tant mieux. Qu'il fasse son devoir de parent. Mais s'il ne veut pas faire pour toi le devoir d'un parent, je ferai pour toi le devoir d'un parent, comme Yahvé est vivant. Couche-toi jusqu'au matin. »
Stay over to-night, and it shall be in the morning, if he will redeem thee, well — let him redeem; but if he like not to redeem thee, then will I redeem thee, [as] Jehovah liveth. Lie down until the morning.
14 Elle resta couchée à ses pieds jusqu'au matin, puis elle se leva avant que l'on puisse en discerner une autre. Car il avait dit: « Que l'on ne sache pas que la femme est venue à l'aire de battage. »
And she lay at his feet until the morning; and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that a woman came into the threshing-floor.
15 Il dit: « Apporte le manteau qui est sur toi, et tiens-le. » Elle le tint; il mesura six mesures d'orge et les posa sur elle; puis il entra dans la ville.
And he said, Bring the cloak that thou hast upon thee, and hold it. And she held it, and he measured six [measures] of barley, and laid [it] on her; and he went into the city.
16 Lorsqu'elle arriva chez sa belle-mère, elle dit: « Comment cela s'est-il passé, ma fille? » Elle lui raconta tout ce que l'homme avait fait pour elle.
And she came to her mother-in-law; and she said, Who art thou, my daughter? And she told her all that the man had done to her.
17 Elle dit: « Il m'a donné ces six mesures d'orge, car il a dit: « Ne va pas à vide chez ta belle-mère ».
And she said, These six [measures] of barley gave he me; for he said to me, Go not empty to thy mother-in-law.
18 Alors elle dit: « Attends, ma fille, jusqu'à ce que tu saches ce qui va se passer; car l'homme ne se reposera pas avant d'avoir réglé cette affaire aujourd'hui. »
Then she said, Be still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall; for the man will not rest until he have completed the matter this day.
