Proverbes 24
1 Ne soyez pas envieux des hommes mauvais, ni le désir d'être avec eux;
[My] son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.
2 pour la violence du complot de leurs cœurs et leurs lèvres parlent de méchanceté.
For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs.
3 C'est par la sagesse que l'on construit une maison; par l'entendement, il est établi;
A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding.
4 par connaissance les chambres sont remplies avec tous les trésors rares et magnifiques.
By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.
5 Un homme sage a un grand pouvoir. Un homme bien informé accroît sa force,
A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate.
6 car c'est par des conseils avisés que tu fais la guerre, et la victoire est dans de nombreux conseillers.
War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor.
7 La sagesse est trop élevée pour un fou. Il n'ouvre pas sa bouche dans la porte.
Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord,
8 Celui qui complote pour faire le mal sera appelé un magouilleur.
but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed [men].
9 Les projets de la folie sont des péchés. Le moqueur est détesté par les hommes.
The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness [attaches] to a pestilent man.
10 Si vous chancelez au moment de la détresse, votre force est faible.
He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.
11 Sauvez ceux qui sont conduits à la mort! En effet, retenez ceux qui titubent vers le massacre!
Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not [thy help].
12 Si vous dites: « Voici, nous ne savions pas cela, » Celui qui pèse les cœurs ne le considère-t-il pas? Celui qui garde ton âme, ne le sait-il pas? Ne doit-il pas rendre à chacun selon son travail?
But if thou shouldest say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.
13 Mon fils, mange du miel, car il est bon, les excréments du rayon de miel, qui sont doux à votre goût;
[My] son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that thy throat may be sweetened.
14 Ainsi tu connaîtras la sagesse pour ton âme. Si vous l'avez trouvé, il y aura une récompense: Votre espoir ne sera pas coupé.
Thus shalt thou perceive wisdom in thy soul: for if thou find it, thine end shall be good, and hope shall not fail thee.
15 Ne fais pas d'embuscades, méchant, contre la demeure des justes. Ne détruisez pas son lieu de repos;
Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly.
16 car le juste tombe sept fois et se relève, mais les méchants sont renversés par la calamité.
For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise [again]: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.
17 Ne te réjouis pas quand ton ennemi tombe. Ne laissez pas votre cœur se réjouir quand il sera renversé,
If thine enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow.
18 de peur que Yahvé ne le voie et que cela ne lui déplaise, et il détourne de lui sa colère.
For the Lord will see [it], and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him.
19 Ne vous inquiétez pas à cause des méchants, ne soyez pas envieux des méchants;
Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners.
20 car il n'y aura pas de récompense pour l'homme mauvais. La lampe des méchants sera éteinte.
For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out.
21 Mon fils, crains Yahvé et le roi. Ne vous joignez pas à ceux qui sont rebelles,
[My] son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them.
22 car leur calamité se lève soudainement. Qui sait quelle destruction peut venir de ces deux-là?
For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance [inflicted] by both?
23 Ce sont là des paroles de sages: Faire preuve de partialité dans le jugement n'est pas bon.
And this thing I say to you that are wise [for you] to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
24 Celui qui dit au méchant: « Tu es juste, » les peuples le maudiront, et les nations l'abhorreront -
He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful among the nations.
25 mais il ira bien avec ceux qui condamnent les coupables, et une riche bénédiction viendra sur eux.
But they that reprove [him] shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;
26 Une réponse honnête est comme un baiser sur les lèvres.
and [men] will kiss lips that answer well.
27 Préparez votre travail à l'extérieur, et préparez vos champs. Ensuite, construisez votre maison.
Prepare thy works for [thy] going forth, and prepare thyself for the field; and come after me, and thou shalt rebuild thine house.
28 Ne sois pas un témoin contre ton prochain sans raison. Ne trompez pas avec vos lèvres.
Be not a false witness against thy [fellow] citizen, neither exaggerate with thy lips.
29 Ne dites pas: « Je lui ferai ce qu'il m'a fait »; Je rendrai à l'homme ce qu'il a fait. »
Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me.
30 Je suis passé par le champ du paresseux, par la vigne de l'homme dépourvu d'intelligence.
A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.
31 Voici, elle était couverte d'épines. Sa surface était couverte d'orties, et son mur de pierre a été démoli.
If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.
32 Alors j'ai vu, et j'ai bien réfléchi. J'ai vu, et reçu des instructions:
Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.
33 un peu de sommeil, un peu d'assoupissement, un petit pliage des mains pour dormir,
[The sluggard says, ]I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across [my] breast.
34 alors ta pauvreté viendra comme un voleur et votre volonté en tant qu'homme armé.
But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily; and thy want like a swift courier.
