Proverbes 23
1 Lorsque vous vous asseyez pour manger avec une règle, Considérez attentivement ce qui est devant vous;
When thou sittest to eate with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee,
2 mettre un couteau sur votre gorge si vous êtes un homme qui a de l'appétit.
And put the knife to thy throte, if thou be a man giuen to the appetite.
3 Ne soyez pas désireux de ses friandises, car ce sont des aliments trompeurs.
Be not desirous of his deintie meates: for it is a deceiuable meate.
4 Ne te fatigue pas pour être riche. Dans votre sagesse, faites preuve de retenue.
Trauaile not too much to be rich: but cease from thy wisdome.
5 Pourquoi fixez-vous vos yeux sur ce qui n'est pas? Car il pousse certainement des ailes comme un aigle et vole dans le ciel.
Wilt thou cast thine eyes vpon it, which is nothing? for riches taketh her to her wings, as an eagle, and flyeth into the heauen.
6 Ne mangez pas la nourriture de celui qui a l'œil avare, et n'ont pas envie de ses délices,
Eate thou not the bread of him that hath an euil eye, neither desire his deintie meates.
7 pour qu'il pense au coût, donc il est. « Mangez et buvez! » vous dit-il, mais son cœur n'est pas avec vous.
For as though he thought it in his heart, so will hee say vnto thee, Eate and drinke: but his heart is not with thee.
8 Vous vomirez le morceau que vous avez mangé. et gaspiller vos paroles agréables.
Thou shalt vomit thy morsels that thou hast eaten, and thou shalt lose thy sweete wordes.
9 Ne parlez pas aux oreilles d'un fou, car il méprisera la sagesse de vos paroles.
Speake not in the eares of a foole: for hee will despise the wisdome of thy wordes.
10 Ne déplacez pas l'ancienne borne. N'empiète pas sur les champs des orphelins,
Remooue not the ancient boundes, and enter not into the fieldes of the fatherlesse.
11 pour leur défenseur est fort. Il plaidera leur cause contre vous.
For he that redeemeth them, is mightie: he will defend their cause against thee.
12 Applique ton cœur à l'instruction, et vos oreilles aux paroles de la connaissance.
Apply thine heart to instruction, and thine eares to the wordes of knowledge.
13 Ne retenez pas la correction d'un enfant. Si vous le punissez avec la verge, il ne mourra pas.
Withhold not correction from the childe: if thou smite him with the rodde, he shall not die.
Thou shalt smite him with the rodde, and shalt deliuer his soule from hell. (Sheol h7585)
15 Mon fils, si ton cœur est sage, alors mon cœur sera heureux, même le mien.
My sonne, if thine heart be wise, mine heart shall reioyce, and I also.
16 Oui, mon cœur se réjouira quand tes lèvres disent ce qui est juste.
And my reynes shall reioyce, when thy lips speake righteous things.
17 Ne laisse pas ton cœur envier les pécheurs, mais plutôt craindre Yahvé toute la journée.
Let not thine heart bee enuious against sinners: but let it bee in the feare of the Lord continually.
18 En effet, il existe une espérance future, et ton espoir ne sera pas anéanti.
For surely there is an ende, and thy hope shall not be cut off.
19 Écoute, mon fils, et sois sage, et gardez votre cœur sur le bon chemin!
O thou my sonne, heare, and bee wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
20 Ne soyez pas parmi ceux qui boivent trop de vin, ou ceux qui se gavent de viande;
Keepe not company with drunkards, nor with gluttons.
21 car l'ivrogne et le glouton deviendront pauvres; et la somnolence les habille de haillons.
For the drunkard and the glutton shall bee poore, and the sleeper shalbe clothed with ragges.
22 Écoute ton père qui t'a donné la vie, et ne méprise pas ta mère quand elle sera vieille.
Obey thy father that hath begotten thee, and despise not thy mother when she is olde.
23 Achetez la vérité, et ne la vendez pas. Obtenez la sagesse, la discipline et la compréhension.
Bye the trueth, but sell it not: likewise wisdome, and instruction, and vnderstanding.
24 Le père des justes a une grande joie. Celui qui donne naissance à un enfant sage se réjouit de lui.
The father of the righteous shall greatly reioyce, and hee that begetteth a wise childe, shall haue ioy of him.
25 Que ton père et ta mère se réjouissent! Que celle qui t'a porté se réjouisse!
Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall reioyce.
26 Mon fils, donne-moi ton cœur; et que vos yeux suivent mes voies.
My sonne, giue mee thine heart, and let thine eyes delite in my wayes.
27 Pour une prostituée, c'est une fosse profonde; et une femme volage est un puits étroit.
For a whore is as a deepe ditche, and a strange woman is as a narrowe pitte.
28 Oui, elle est à l'affût comme un voleur, et augmente les infidèles parmi les hommes.
Also she lyeth in wait as for a praye, and she increaseth the transgressers among men.
29 Qui a du malheur? Qui a du chagrin? Qui a des querelles? Qui a des plaintes? Qui a des bleus inutiles? Qui a les yeux injectés de sang?
To whome is woe? to whome is sorowe? to whom is strife? to whom is murmuring? to whom are woundes without cause? and to whome is the rednesse of the eyes?
30 Ceux qui restent longtemps au vin; ceux qui vont chercher du vin mélangé.
Euen to them that tarie long at the wine, to them that goe, and seeke mixt wine.
31 Ne regardez pas le vin quand il est rouge, quand elle brille dans la tasse, quand il descend en douceur.
Looke not thou vpon the wine, when it is red, and when it sheweth his colour in the cup, or goeth downe pleasantly.
32 A la fin, ça mord comme un serpent, et empoisonne comme une vipère.
In the ende thereof it will bite like a serpent, and hurt like a cockatrise.
33 Tes yeux verront des choses étranges, et votre esprit va imaginer des choses confuses.
Thine eyes shall looke vpon strange women, and thine heart shall speake lewde things.
34 Oui, tu seras comme celui qui se couche au milieu de la mer, ou comme celui qui se trouve au sommet du gréement:
And thou shalt bee as one that sleepeth in the middes of the sea, and as hee that sleepeth in the toppe of the maste.
35 « Ils m'ont frappé, et je n'ai pas été blessé! Ils me battent, et je ne le sens pas! Quand est-ce que je vais me réveiller? Je peux encore le faire. Je vais en chercher d'autres. »
They haue stricken mee, shalt thou say, but I was not sicke: they haue beaten mee, but I knew not, when I awoke: therefore will I seeke it yet still.
