Proverbes 16
1 Les projets du cœur appartiennent à l'homme, mais la réponse de la langue vient de Yahvé.
To man belongeth the preparation of the heart; But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
2 Toutes les voies d'un homme sont pures à ses propres yeux, mais Yahvé pèse les motifs.
All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes; But the LORD weigheth the spirit.
3 Confiez vos actes à Yahvé, et vos plans réussiront.
Commit thy doings to the LORD, And thy purposes shall be established.
4 L'Éternel a fait chaque chose pour sa propre fin. oui, même les méchants pour le jour du malheur.
The LORD hath ordained every thing for its end; Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.
5 Quiconque a le cœur fier est en abomination à Yahvé; ils ne resteront certainement pas impunis.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; From generation to generation he shall not be unpunished.
6 Par la miséricorde et la vérité, l'iniquité est expiée. Par la crainte de Yahvé, les hommes s'éloignent du mal.
Through kindness and truth, iniquity is expiated; And, through the fear of the LORD, men depart from evil.
7 Quand les voies d'un homme plaisent à Yahvé, il fait en sorte que même ses ennemis soient en paix avec lui.
When a man's ways please the LORD, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
8 Mieux vaut un peu de justice, que de grands revenus avec l'injustice.
Better is a little with righteousness, Than great revenues without right.
9 Le cœur de l'homme trace sa route, mais c'est Yahvé qui dirige ses pas.
The heart of man deviseth his way, But the LORD establisheth his steps.
10 Des jugements inspirés sont sur les lèvres du roi. Il ne trahira pas sa bouche.
A divine sentence is upon the lips of a king; His mouth transgresseth not in judgment.
11 Les balances honnêtes appartiennent à Yahvé; tous les poids dans le sac sont son travail.
A just balance and scales are the appointment of the LORD; All the weights of the bag are his work.
12 C'est une abomination pour les rois de faire le mal, car le trône est établi par la justice.
The doing of wickedness is an abomination to kings; For by righteousness is the throne established.
13 Les lèvres justes font les délices des rois. Ils apprécient celui qui dit la vérité.
Righteous lips are the delight of kings, And they love him who speaketh right things.
14 La colère du roi est un messager de mort, mais un homme sage l'apaisera.
The wrath of a king is messengers of death; But a wise man will pacify it.
15 Dans la lumière du visage du roi est la vie. Sa faveur est comme un nuage de la pluie de printemps.
In the light of the king's countenance is life, And his favor is a like a cloud bringing the latter rain.
16 Combien il vaut mieux obtenir la sagesse que l'or! Oui, être compris, c'est être choisi plutôt qu'argenté.
How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! Yea, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.
17 La route des hommes intègres consiste à s'éloigner du mal. Celui qui garde son chemin préserve son âme.
It is the highway of the upright to depart from evil; He that taketh heed to his way preserveth his life.
18 L'orgueil précède la ruine, et un esprit arrogant avant la chute.
Pride goeth before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
19 Il est préférable d'avoir l'esprit humble avec les pauvres, que de partager le butin avec les orgueilleux.
Better is it to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to share the spoil with the proud.
20 Celui qui écoute la Parole trouve la prospérité. Celui qui se confie en Yahvé est béni.
He who giveth heed to the word shall find good; And he who trusteth in the LORD, happy is he!
21 Les sages de cœur seront appelés prudents. L'agrément des lèvres favorise l'instruction.
The wise in heart shall be called intelligent, And sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.
22 L'intelligence est une source de vie pour celui qui la possède, mais la punition des fous est leur folie.
Understanding is a wellspring of life to him that hath it. And the chastisement of fools is their folly.
23 Le cœur du sage instruit sa bouche, et ajoute l'apprentissage à ses lèvres.
The heart of the wise man instructeth his mouth, And addeth learning to his lips.
24 Les paroles agréables sont un rayon de miel, doux pour l'âme, et la santé pour les os.
Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweet to the taste, and health to the bones.
25 Il y a un chemin qui semble juste à un homme, mais à la fin, ça mène à la mort.
There is a way that seemeth right to a man, But the end thereof is the way to death.
26 L'appétit de l'homme qui travaille travaille travaille pour lui, car sa bouche le pousse à continuer.
The hunger of the laborer laboreth for him; For his mouth urgeth him on.
27 Un homme sans valeur conçoit des méfaits. Son discours est comme un feu brûlant.
A worthless man diggeth mischief, And on his lips there is, as it were, a burning fire.
28 Un homme pervers suscite des querelles. Un chuchoteur sépare les amis proches.
A deceitful man stirreth up strife, And a whisperer separateth friends.
29 Un homme violent séduit son prochain, et le conduit dans une voie qui n'est pas bonne.
A man of violence enticeth his neighbor, And leadeth him into a way which is not good.
30 Celui qui cligne des yeux pour comploter des perversités, celui qui comprime ses lèvres, est enclin au mal.
He who shutteth his eyes to devise fraud, He who compresseth his lips, hath accomplished mischief!
31 Les cheveux gris sont une couronne de gloire. On l'atteint par une vie de droiture.
The hoary head is a crown of glory, If it be found in the way of righteousness.
32 Celui qui est lent à la colère est meilleur que les puissants; celui qui domine son esprit, que celui qui prend une ville.
He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he who ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.
33 Le sort est jeté dans le giron, mais toutes ses décisions viennent de Yahvé.
The lot is cast into the lap; But the whole decision thereof is from the LORD.
