1 Yahvé parla à Moïse, et dit:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
2 « Venge les enfants d'Israël sur les Madianites. Ensuite, vous serez rassemblés auprès de votre peuple. »
'Execute the vengeance of the sons of Israel against the Midianites — afterwards thou art gathered unto thy people.'
3 Moïse parla au peuple, et dit: « Armez des hommes parmi vous pour la guerre, afin qu'ils aillent contre Madian, pour exécuter la vengeance de Yahvé sur Madian.
And Moses speaketh unto the people, saying, 'Be ye armed some of you for the host, and they are against Midian, to put the vengeance of Jehovah on Midian;
4 Vous enverrez mille hommes de chaque tribu, de toutes les tribus d'Israël, à la guerre. »
a thousand for a tribe — a thousand for a tribe, to all the tribes of Israel — ye do send to the host.'
5 On livra donc, parmi les milliers d'Israël, mille hommes de chaque tribu, soit douze mille hommes armés pour la guerre.
And there are given out of the thousands of Israel a thousand for a tribe, twelve thousand armed ones of the host;
6 Moïse les envoya, mille de chaque tribu, à la guerre, avec Phinées, fils du prêtre Éléazar, à la guerre, les ustensiles du sanctuaire et les trompettes d'alarme dans sa main.
and Moses sendeth them, a thousand for a tribe, to the host, them and Phinehas son of Eleazar the priest, to the host; and the holy vessels, and the trumpets of the shouting, in his hand.
7 Ils combattirent contre Madian, comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné à Moïse. Ils tuèrent tous les mâles.
And they war against Midian, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses, and slay every male;
8 Ils tuèrent les rois de Madian avec le reste de leurs morts: Evi, Rékem, Tsur, Hur et Réba, les cinq rois de Madian. Ils tuèrent aussi par l'épée Balaam, fils de Beor.
and the kings of Midian they have slain, besides their pierced ones, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian; and Balaam son of Beor, they have slain with the sword.
9 Les enfants d'Israël emmenèrent captives les femmes de Madian et leurs petits enfants, et ils pillèrent tout leur bétail, tous leurs troupeaux et tous leurs biens.
And the sons of Israel take captive the women of Midian, and their infants; and all their cattle, and all their substance, and all their wealth they have plundered;
10 Ils brûlèrent au feu toutes leurs villes, dans les lieux qu'ils habitaient, et tous leurs campements.
and all their cities, with their habitations, and all their towers, they have burnt with fire.
11 Ils prirent tous les captifs et tout le butin, tant des hommes que des animaux.
And they take all the spoil, and all the prey, among man and among beast;
12 Ils amenèrent les captifs, avec le butin et le pillage, à Moïse, au sacrificateur Éléazar et à l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, au camp des plaines de Moab, qui sont près du Jourdain, à Jéricho.
and they bring in, unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the company of the sons of Israel, the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto the camp, unto the plains of Moab, which [are] by Jordan, [near] Jericho.
13 Moïse et le sacrificateur Éléazar, avec tous les chefs de l'assemblée, sortirent à leur rencontre hors du camp.
And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the company, go out to meet them, unto the outside of the camp,
14 Moïse se mit en colère contre les officiers de l'armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, qui venaient du service de la guerre.
and Moses is wroth against the inspectors of the force, chiefs of the thousands, and chiefs of the hundreds, who are coming in from the host of the battle.
15 Moïse leur dit: « Avez-vous sauvé toutes les femmes en vie?
And Moses saith unto them, 'Have ye kept alive every female?
16 Voici qu'elles ont poussé les enfants d'Israël, par le conseil de Balaam, à commettre une infidélité à l'égard de l'Éternel dans l'affaire de Péor, et c'est ainsi que la plaie a frappé la congrégation de l'Éternel.
lo, they — they have been to the sons of Israel, through the word of Balaam, to cause a trespass against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and the plague is in the company of Jehovah.
17 Maintenant, tuez tout mâle parmi les petits enfants, et tuez toute femme qui a connu un homme en couchant avec lui.
'And now, slay ye every male among the infants, yea, every woman known of man by the lying of a male ye have slain;
18 Mais toutes les filles qui n'ont pas connu d'homme en couchant avec lui, gardez-les vivantes pour vous.
and all the infants among the women, who have not known the lying of a male, ye have kept alive for yourselves.
19 « Campez hors du camp pendant sept jours. Celui qui a tué quelqu'un et celui qui a touché un mort, purifiez-vous le troisième jour et le septième jour, vous et vos captifs.
'And ye, encamp ye at the outside of the camp seven days — any who hath slain a person, and any who hath come against a pierced one, ye cleanse yourselves on the third day, and on the seventh day — ye and your captives;
20 Vous purifierez tout vêtement, tout ce qui est fait en peau, tout ce qui est fait en poil de chèvre et tout ce qui est fait en bois. »
and every garment, and every skin vessel, and every work of goats' [hair], and every wooden vessel, ye yourselves cleanse.'
21 Le sacrificateur Éléazar dit aux hommes de guerre qui allaient au combat: « Voici le règlement de la loi que l'Éternel a prescrite à Moïse.
And Eleazar the priest saith unto the men of the host who go in to battle, 'This [is] the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses:
22 Cependant, l'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, l'étain et le plomb,
only, the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23 tout ce qui peut résister au feu, vous le ferez passer par le feu, et il sera pur; néanmoins, il sera purifié avec l'eau pour être impur. Tout ce qui ne résistera pas au feu, vous le ferez passer dans l'eau.
every thing which may go into fire, ye cause to pass over through fire, and it hath been clean; only, with the water of separation it is cleansed, and all that may not go into fire, ye cause to pass over through water;
24 Tu laveras tes vêtements le septième jour, et tu seras pur. Ensuite, tu entreras dans le camp. »
and ye have washed your garments on the seventh day, and have been clean, and afterwards ye come in unto the camp.'
25 L'Éternel parla à Moïse, et dit:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
26 Comptez le butin qui a été fait, tant pour les hommes que pour les animaux, vous, le prêtre Éléazar et les chefs de famille de l'assemblée,
'Take up the sum of the prey of the captives, among man and among beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers of the company;
27 et partagez le butin en deux parties: entre les hommes de guerre qui sont allés au combat et toute l'assemblée.
and thou hast halved the prey between those handling the battle who go out to the host and all the company;
28 Prélève un tribut à l'Éternel sur les hommes de guerre qui sont allés au combat: une âme sur cinq cents, sur les personnes, sur le bétail, sur les ânes et sur les troupeaux.
and thou hast raised a tribute to Jehovah from the men of war, who go out to the host, one body out of five hundred, of man, and of the herd, and of the asses, and of the flock;
29 Prenez-en la moitié et donnez-la au prêtre Éléazar, pour l'offrande de l'Éternel.
from their half ye do take, and thou hast given to Eleazar the priest — the heave-offering of Jehovah.
30 Sur la moitié des enfants d'Israël, tu prendras une personne tirée sur cinquante, du bétail, des ânes et des troupeaux, de tout le bétail, et tu la donneras aux Lévites, qui font le service de la tente de Yahvé. »
'And from the sons of Israel's half thou dost take one possession out of fifty, of man, of the herd, of the asses, and of the flock, of all the cattle, and thou hast given them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.'
31 Moïse et le prêtre Éléazar firent ce que l'Éternel avait ordonné à Moïse.
And Moses doth — Eleazar the priest also — as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
32 Or le butin, en sus du butin que les hommes de guerre avaient pris, fut de six cent soixante-quinze mille brebis,
And the prey, the residue of the spoil which the people of the host have spoiled, is of the flock six hundred thousand, and seventy thousand, and five thousand;
33 soixante-douze mille têtes de bétail,
and of the herd two and seventy thousand;
34 soixante et un mille ânes,
and of asses one and sixty thousand;
35 et trente-deux mille personnes en tout, des femmes qui n'avaient pas connu d'homme en couchant avec lui.
and of human beings — of the women who have not known the lying of a male — all the persons [are] two and thirty thousand.
36 La moitié, qui était la part de ceux qui partaient pour la guerre, était en nombre de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents moutons;
And the half — the portion of those who go out into the host — the number of the flock is three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, and seven thousand and five hundred.
37 et le tribut de l'Éternel sur les moutons était de six cent soixante-quinze.
And the tribute to Jehovah of the sheep is six hundred five and seventy;
38 Les bovins étaient au nombre de trente-six mille, et le tribut de l'Éternel était de soixante-douze.
and the herd [is] six and thirty thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah [is] two and seventy;
39 Les ânes étaient au nombre de trente mille cinq cents; le tribut de l'Éternel était de soixante et un.
and the asses [are] thirty thousand and five hundred, and their tribute to Jehovah [is] one and sixty;
40 Les personnes étaient au nombre de seize mille; le tribut de l'Éternel était de trente-deux personnes.
and the human beings [are] sixteen thousand, and their tribute to Jehovah [is] two and thirty persons.
41 Moïse remit au sacrificateur Éléazar le tribut, qui était l'ondoiement de l'Éternel, comme l'Éternel l'avait ordonné à Moïse.
And Moses giveth the tribute — Jehovah's heave-offering — to Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
42 Sur la moitié des enfants d'Israël, que Moïse sépara des hommes qui avaient combattu
And of the sons of Israel's half, which Moses halved from the men who war —
43 (la moitié de l'assemblée était de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents moutons,
and the company's half is, of the flock three hundred thousand, and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred;
44 trente-six mille têtes de bétail,
and of the herd six and thirty thousand;
45 trente mille cinq cents ânes
and of asses thirty thousand and five hundred;
46 et seize mille personnes),
and of human beings sixteen thousand —
47 sur la moitié des enfants d'Israël, Moïse prit un homme et un animal sur cinquante, et les donna aux Lévites, qui faisaient le service du tabernacle de Yahvé, comme Yahvé l'avait ordonné à Moïse.
Moses taketh from the sons of Israel's half the one possession from the fifty, of man and of beast, and giveth them to the Levites keeping the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah, as Jehovah hath commanded Moses.
48 Les officiers qui commandaient les milliers de l'armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, s'approchèrent de Moïse.
And the inspectors whom the thousands of the host hath, (heads of the thousands and heads of the hundreds), draw near unto Moses,
49 Ils dirent à Moïse: « Tes serviteurs ont fait le compte des hommes de guerre qui sont sous nos ordres, et il ne manque pas un seul homme parmi nous.
and they say unto Moses, 'Thy servants have taken up the sum of the men of war who [are] with us, and not a man of us hath been missed;
50 Nous avons apporté l'offrande de l'Éternel, ce que chacun a trouvé: des ornements en or, des bracelets, des bagues, des anneaux, des boucles d'oreilles et des colliers, pour faire l'expiation de nos âmes devant l'Éternel. »
and we bring near Jehovah's offering, each that which he hath found, vessels of gold — chain, and bracelet, seal-ring, [ear] -ring, and bead — to make atonement for ourselves before Jehovah.'
51 Moïse et le sacrificateur Éléazar prirent leur or, tous les bijoux travaillés.
And Moses receiveth — Eleazar the priest also — the gold from them, every made vessel,
52 Tout l'or de l'ondoiement qu'ils offrirent à l'Éternel, des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, fut de seize mille sept cent cinquante sicles.
and all the gold of the heave-offering which they have lifted up to Jehovah is sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels, from heads of the thousands, and from heads of the hundreds;
53 Les hommes de guerre avaient fait du butin, chacun pour soi.
(the men of the host have spoiled each for himself);
54 Moïse et le prêtre Éléazar prirent l'or des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, et l'apportèrent dans la tente d'assignation, comme souvenir pour les enfants d'Israël devant l'Éternel.
and Moses taketh — Eleazar the priest also — the gold from the heads of the thousands and of the hundreds, and they bring it in unto the tent of meeting — a memorial for the sons of Israel before Jehovah.
