1 Or Koré, fils de Jitsehar, fils de Kehath, fils de Lévi, avec Dathan et Abiram, fils d'Éliab, et On, fils de Péleth, fils de Ruben, prirent quelques hommes.
And Korah, son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, taketh both Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, sons of Reuben,
2 Ils se levèrent devant Moïse, avec une partie des enfants d'Israël, deux cent cinquante chefs de l'assemblée, appelés à l'assemblée, hommes de renom.
and they rise up before Moses, with men of the sons of Israel, two hundred and fifty, princes of the company, called of the convention, men of name,
3 Ils s'assemblèrent contre Moïse et Aaron, et leur dirent: « Vous prenez trop sur vous, car toute l'assemblée est sainte, chacun d'eux, et Yahvé est au milieu d'eux! Pourquoi vous élevez-vous au-dessus de l'assemblée de Yahvé? »
and they are assembled against Moses and against Aaron, and say unto them, 'Enough of you! for all the company — all of them [are] holy, and in their midst [is] Jehovah; and wherefore do ye lift yourselves up above the assembly of Jehovah?'
4 Lorsque Moïse l'entendit, il tomba sur sa face.
And Moses heareth, and falleth on his face,
5 Il dit à Koré et à toute sa troupe: « Demain matin, l'Éternel fera connaître qui est à lui et qui est saint, et il le fera approcher de lui. Il fera approcher de lui celui qu'il choisira.
and he speaketh unto Korah, and unto all his company, saying, 'Morning! — and Jehovah is knowing those who are his, and him who is holy, and hath brought near unto Him; even him whom He doth fix on He bringeth near unto Him.
6 Fais ceci: que Koré et toute sa troupe prennent des encensoirs,
This do: take to yourselves censers, Korah, and all his company,
7 y mettent du feu et y déposent de l'encens devant Yahvé demain. L'homme que choisira Yahvé sera saint. Vous êtes allés trop loin, fils de Lévi! »
and put in them fire, and put on them perfume, before Jehovah to-morrow, and it hath been, the man whom Jehovah chooseth, he [is] the holy one; — enough of you, sons of Levi.'
8 Moïse dit à Koré: « Écoutez, fils de Lévi!
And Moses saith unto Korah, 'Hear ye, I pray you, sons of Levi;
9 Est-ce peu de chose pour vous que le Dieu d'Israël vous ait séparés de l'assemblée d'Israël, pour vous faire approcher de lui, afin que vous fassiez le service de la tente de l'Éternel et que vous vous teniez devant l'assemblée pour la servir?
is it little to you that the God of Israel hath separated you from the company of Israel to bring you near unto Himself, to do the service of the tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the company to serve them? —
10 Et qu'il vous ait fait approcher, et tous vos frères, les fils de Lévi, avec vous? Cherchez-vous aussi le sacerdoce?
yea, He doth bring thee near, and all thy brethren the sons of Levi with thee — and ye have sought also the priesthood!
11 C'est pourquoi vous vous êtes rassemblés, toi et toute ta troupe, contre Yahvé! Qu'est-ce qu'Aaron pour que vous vous plaigniez de lui? »
Therefore, thou and all thy company who are met [are] against Jehovah; and Aaron, what [is] he, that ye murmur against him?'
12 Moïse envoya appeler Dathan et Abiram, les fils d'Eliab, et ils dirent: « Nous ne monterons pas!
And Moses sendeth to call for Dathan and for Abiram sons of Eliab, and they say, 'We do not come up;
13 Est-ce peu de chose que tu nous aies fait monter d'un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, pour nous tuer dans le désert, et que tu te fasses aussi prince sur nous?
is it little that thou hast brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to put us to death in a wilderness that thou also certainly makest thyself prince over us?
14 Tu ne nous as pas fait entrer dans un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, et tu ne nous as pas donné en héritage des champs et des vignes. Veux-tu crever les yeux de ces hommes? Nous ne monterons pas. »
Yea, unto a land flowing with milk and honey thou hast not brought us in, nor dost thou give to us an inheritance of field and vineyard; the eyes of these men dost thou pick out? we do not come up.'
15 Moïse se mit dans une grande colère et dit à Yahvé: « Ne respecte pas leur offrande. Je ne leur ai pas pris un seul âne, et je n'ai fait de mal à aucun d'entre eux. »
And it is very displeasing to Moses, and he saith unto Jehovah, 'Turn not Thou unto their present; not one ass from them have I taken, nor have I afflicted one of them.'
16 Moïse dit à Koré: « Toi et toute ta troupe, vous irez demain devant l'Éternel, toi, eux et Aaron.
And Moses saith unto Korah, 'Thou and all thy company, be ye before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, to-morrow;
17 Chacun prendra son encensoir et y mettra du parfum, et chacun apportera devant l'Éternel son encensoir, deux cent cinquante encensoirs; toi aussi, et Aaron, chacun avec son encensoir. »
and take ye each his censer, and ye have put on them perfume, and brought near before Jehovah, each his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou and Aaron, each his censer.'
18 Ils prirent chacun leur encensoir, y mirent du feu, y déposèrent du parfum, et se tinrent à l'entrée de la Tente de la Rencontre avec Moïse et Aaron.
And they take each his censer, and put on them fire, and lay on them perfume, and they stand at the opening of the tent of meeting, with Moses and Aaron.
19 Koré rassembla toute la congrégation en face d'eux à l'entrée de la Tente de la Rencontre. La gloire de Yahvé apparut à toute l'assemblée.
And Korah assembleth against them all the company unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the honour of Jehovah is seen by all the company.
20 Yahvé parla à Moïse et à Aaron, et dit:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
21 « Retirez-vous du milieu de cette assemblée, afin que je les consume en un instant. »
'Be ye separated from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;'
22 Ils tombèrent sur leur face, et dirent: « Dieu, le Dieu des esprits de toute chair, si un seul homme pèche, seras-tu irrité contre toute l'assemblée? »
and they fall on their faces, and say, 'God, God of the spirits of all flesh — the one man sinneth, and against all the company Thou art wroth!'
23 Yahvé parla à Moïse et dit:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
24 « Parle à l'assemblée, et dis: « Ne restez pas autour de la tente de Koré, de Dathan et d'Abiram.
'Speak unto the company, saying, Go ye up from round about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.'
25 Moïse se leva et alla vers Dathan et Abiram, et les anciens d'Israël le suivirent.
And Moses riseth, and goeth unto Dathan and Abiram, and the elders of Israel go after him,
26 Il parla à l'assemblée en disant: « Sortez, je vous prie, des tentes de ces méchants hommes, et ne touchez à rien de ce qui leur appartient, de peur que vous ne soyez consumés par tous leurs péchés! ».
and he speaketh unto the company, saying, 'Turn aside, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and come not against anything that they have, lest ye be consumed in all their sins.'
27 Et ils s'éloignèrent de la tente de Koré, de Dathan et d'Abiram, de tous côtés. Dathan et Abiram sortirent, et se tinrent à l'entrée de leurs tentes, avec leurs femmes, leurs fils et leurs petits enfants.
And they go up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, from round about, and Dathan, and Abiram have come out, standing at the opening of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their infants.
28 Moïse dit: « Vous saurez ainsi que c'est Yahvé qui m'a envoyé faire toutes ces choses, car elles ne viennent pas de ma propre volonté.
And Moses saith, 'By this ye do know that Jehovah hath sent me to do all these works, that [they are] not from my own heart;
29 Si ces hommes meurent de la mort commune à tous les hommes, ou s'ils éprouvent ce que tous les hommes éprouvent, alors Yahvé ne m'a pas envoyé.
if according to the death of all men these die — or the charge of all men is charged upon them — Jehovah hath not sent me;
30 Mais si Yahvé fait du nouveau, si la terre ouvre sa bouche et les engloutit avec tout ce qui leur appartient, et qu'ils descendent vivants dans le séjour des morts, alors vous comprendrez que ces hommes ont méprisé Yahvé. » (Sheol h7585)
and if a strange thing Jehovah do, and the ground hath opened her mouth and swallowed them, and all that they have, and they have gone down alive to Sheol — then ye have known that these men have despised Jehovah.' (Sheol h7585)
31 Comme il achevait de prononcer toutes ces paroles, le sol qui était sous eux se fendit.
And it cometh to pass at his finishing speaking all these words, that the ground which [is] under them cleaveth,
32 La terre ouvrit sa bouche et les engloutit avec leurs familles, tous les hommes de Koré et tous leurs biens.
and the earth openeth her mouth, and swalloweth them, and their houses, and all the men who [are] for Korah, and all the goods,
33 Ils descendirent vivants dans le séjour des morts, avec tout ce qui leur appartenait. La terre se referma sur eux, et ils périrent du milieu de l'assemblée. (Sheol h7585)
and they go down, they, and all that they have, alive to Sheol, and the earth closeth over them, and they perish from the midst of the assembly; (Sheol h7585)
34 Tout Israël qui les entourait s'enfuit à leur cri, car ils disaient: « De peur que la terre ne nous engloutisse ».
and all Israel who [are] round about them have fled at their voice, for they said, 'Lest the earth swallow us;'
35 Le feu sortit de Yahvé et dévora les deux cent cinquante hommes qui offraient le parfum.
and fire hath come out from Jehovah, and consumeth the two hundred and fifty men bringing near the perfume.
36 Yahvé parla à Moïse, et dit:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
37 Parle à Éléazar, fils du sacrificateur Aaron, pour qu'il retire les brasiers de l'ardeur, et qu'il disperse le feu loin du camp, car ils sont saints,
'Say unto Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, and he lifteth up the censers from the midst of the burning, and the fire scatter thou yonder, for they have been hallowed,
38 même les brasiers de ceux qui ont péché contre leur propre vie. Qu'on en fasse des plaques pour couvrir l'autel, car ils les ont offerts devant Yahvé. C'est pourquoi ils sont saints. Ils seront un signe pour les enfants d'Israël. »
[even] the censers of these sinners against their own souls; and they have made them spread-out plates, a covering for the altar, for they have brought them near before Jehovah, and they are hallowed; and they are become a sign to the sons of Israel.'
39 Le sacrificateur Éléazar prit les brasiers d'airain que les brûlés avaient offerts, et il les battit pour couvrir l'autel,
And Eleazar the priest taketh the brazen censers which they who are burnt had brought near, and they spread them out, a covering for the altar —
40 afin que ce soit un souvenir pour les enfants d'Israël, et qu'aucun étranger qui ne soit pas de la race d'Aaron ne s'approche pour offrir des parfums devant l'Éternel, afin qu'il ne soit pas comme Koré et comme sa troupe, comme l'Éternel le lui a dit par Moïse.
a memorial to the sons of Israel, so that a stranger who is not of the seed of Aaron doth not draw near to make a perfume before Jehovah, and is not as Korah, and as his company, — as Jehovah hath spoken by the hand of Moses to him.
41 Mais le lendemain, toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël se plaignit de Moïse et d'Aaron, en disant: « Vous avez tué le peuple de l'Éternel. »
And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur, on the morrow, against Moses and against Aaron, saying, 'Ye — ye have put to death the people of Jehovah.'
42 Lorsque l'assemblée s'assembla contre Moïse et contre Aaron, elle regarda vers la tente de la Rencontre. Et voici, la nuée la couvrait, et la gloire de Yahvé apparaissait.
And it cometh to pass, in the company being assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they turn towards the tent of meeting, and lo, the cloud hath covered it, and the honour of Jehovah is seen;
43 Moïse et Aaron arrivèrent devant la tente de la Rencontre.
and Moses cometh — Aaron also — unto the front of the tent of meeting.
44 Yahvé parla à Moïse et lui dit:
And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
45 « Retirez-vous du milieu de cette assemblée, afin que je la consume en un instant. » Ils tombèrent sur leur visage.
'Get you up from the midst of this company, and I consume them in a moment;' and they fall on their faces,
46 Moïse dit à Aaron: « Prends ton encensoir, mets-y le feu de l'autel, pose-y de l'encens, porte-le rapidement à l'assemblée, et fais l'expiation pour eux, car la colère est sortie de Yahvé. La plaie a commencé. »
and Moses saith unto Aaron, 'Take the censer, and put on it fire from off the altar, and place perfume, and go, hasten unto the company, and make atonement for them, for the wrath hath gone out from the presence of Jehovah — the plague hath begun.'
47 Aaron fit ce que Moïse avait dit, et courut au milieu de l'assemblée. La peste avait déjà commencé parmi le peuple. Il mit l'encens et fit l'expiation pour le peuple.
And Aaron taketh as Moses hath spoken, and runneth unto the midst of the assembly, and lo, the plague hath begun among the people; and he giveth the perfume, and maketh atonement for the people,
48 Il se plaça entre les morts et les vivants, et la peste fut arrêtée.
and standeth between the dead and the living, and the plague is restrained;
49 Ceux qui moururent de la peste furent quatorze mille sept cents, sans compter ceux qui moururent à cause de l'affaire de Koré.
and those who die by the plague are fourteen thousand and seven hundred, apart from those who die for the matter of Korah;
50 Aaron retourna vers Moïse à l'entrée de la tente de la Rencontre, et la peste fut arrêtée.
and Aaron turneth back unto Moses, unto the opening of the tent of meeting, and the plague hath been restrained.
