Néhémie 13
1 Ce jour-là, on lut dans le livre de Moïse, à l'oreille du peuple, et l'on trouva écrit qu'un Ammonite et un Moabite ne devaient pas entrer à jamais dans l'assemblée de Dieu,
On that day there was read in the scroll of Moses, in the ears of the people, and it has been found written in it that an Ammonite and Moabite does not come into the assembly of God for all time,
2 parce qu'ils n'allaient pas au-devant des enfants d'Israël avec du pain et de l'eau, mais qu'ils engageaient contre eux Balaam pour les maudire; cependant, notre Dieu changea la malédiction en bénédiction.
because they have not come before the sons of Israel with bread and with water, and hire against them Balaam to revile them, and our God turns the reviling into a blessing.
3 Lorsqu'ils eurent entendu la loi, ils séparèrent d'Israël toute la multitude mélangée.
And it comes to pass, at their hearing the Law, that they separate all the mixed people from Israel.
4 Avant cela, le prêtre Éliaschib, qui était préposé aux chambres de la maison de notre Dieu, étant allié à Tobija,
And before this Eliashib the priest, appointed over chambers of the house of our God, [is] a relation of Tobiah,
5 avait préparé pour lui une grande salle, où l'on déposait les offrandes, l'encens, les vases, les dîmes du blé, du vin nouveau et de l'huile, qui étaient donnés par ordre aux Lévites, aux chantres et aux portiers, et les offrandes d'ondulations pour les prêtres.
and he makes for him a great chamber, and there they were formerly putting the present, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithe of the grain, the new wine, and the oil—the commanded thing of the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers—and the raised-offering of the priests.
6 Mais en tout cela, je n'étais pas à Jérusalem; car la trente-deuxième année d'Artaxerxès, roi de Babylone, je me rendis auprès du roi; quelques jours après, je demandai congé au roi,
And during all this I was not in Jerusalem, for in the thirty-second year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I came to the king, and at the end of days I have asked of the king,
7 et j'arrivai à Jérusalem, où je compris le mal qu'Eliashib avait fait à Tobija, en lui préparant une chambre dans les parvis de la maison de Dieu.
and I come to Jerusalem, and understand concerning the evil that Eliashib has done for Tobiah, to make to him a chamber in the courts of the house of God,
8 Cela m'a beaucoup peiné. C'est pourquoi j'ai jeté hors de la chambre tous les effets personnels de Tobija.
and it is very displeasing to me, and I cast all the vessels of the house of Tobiah outside, out of the chamber,
9 Puis j'ai donné des ordres, et on a nettoyé les chambres. J'y apportai les vases de la maison de Dieu, avec les offrandes de repas et l'encens de nouveau.
and I command, and they cleanse the chambers, and I bring back there the vessels of the house of God with the present and the frankincense.
10 Je m'aperçus que les parts des Lévites ne leur avaient pas été données, de sorte que les Lévites et les chantres, qui faisaient le travail, s'étaient enfuis chacun dans son champ.
And I know that the portions of the Levites have not been given, and they flee each to his field—the Levites and the singers, doing the work.
11 Alors je contestai avec les chefs, et je dis: « Pourquoi la maison de Dieu est-elle abandonnée? » Je les rassemblai et les remis à leur place.
And I strive with the prefects, and say, “Why has the house of God been forsaken?” And I gather them, and set them on their station;
12 Alors tout Juda apporta aux trésors la dîme du blé, du vin nouveau et de l'huile.
and all Judah has brought in the tithe of the grain, and of the new wine, and of the oil, to the treasuries.
13 J'établis comme trésoriers des trésors le sacrificateur Schélémia, le scribe Tsadok, et Pedaja, l'un des Lévites; Hanan, fils de Zaccur, fils de Matthania, était à côté d'eux, car ils étaient considérés comme fidèles, et leur tâche était de distribuer à leurs frères.
And I appoint treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and Pedaiah of the Levites; and by their hand [is] Hanan son of Zaccur, son of Mattaniah, for they have been reckoned steadfast, and on them [it is] to give a portion to their brothers.
14 Souviens-toi de moi, mon Dieu, à propos de ceci, et n'efface pas mes bonnes actions que j'ai faites pour la maison de mon Dieu et pour ses observances.
Be mindful of me, O my God, for this, and do not blot out my kind acts that I have done, for the house of my God, and for its charges.
15 En ce temps-là, j'ai vu en Juda des hommes qui foulaient des pressoirs le jour du sabbat, qui apportaient des gerbes et chargeaient des ânes de vin, de raisins, de figues et de toutes sortes de fardeaux qu'ils apportaient à Jérusalem le jour du sabbat; et j'ai rendu témoignage contre eux le jour où ils vendaient des aliments.
In those days I have seen in Judah those treading wine-vats on Sabbath, and bringing in the sheaves, and loading on the donkeys, and also, wine, grapes, and figs, and every burden, indeed, they are bringing into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, and I testify in the day of their selling provision.
16 Il y avait là aussi des hommes de Tyr, qui apportaient du poisson et toutes sortes de marchandises, et vendaient le jour du sabbat aux enfants de Juda et à Jérusalem.
And the Tyrians have dwelt in it, bringing in fish, and every ware, and selling on Sabbath to the sons of Judah and in Jerusalem.
17 Alors je contestai avec les nobles de Juda, et je leur dis: « Quelle est cette mauvaise action que vous faites, et qui consiste à profaner le jour du sabbat?
And I strive with the nobles of Judah, and say to them, “What [is] this evil thing that you are doing, and defiling the Sabbath day?
18 Vos pères n'ont-ils pas fait cela, et notre Dieu n'a-t-il pas fait venir tout ce mal sur nous et sur cette ville? Mais vous attirez encore plus de colère sur Israël en profanant le sabbat. »
Thus did not your fathers do? And our God brings in on us all this evil, and on this city, and you are adding fierceness on Israel, to defile the Sabbath.”
19 Lorsque les portes de Jérusalem commencèrent à s'obscurcir avant le sabbat, j'ordonnai de fermer les portes et de ne les ouvrir qu'après le sabbat. Je confiai la surveillance des portes à quelques-uns de mes serviteurs, afin qu'aucun fardeau ne soit introduit le jour du sabbat.
And it comes to pass, when the gates of Jerusalem have been dark before the Sabbath, that I command, and the doors are shut, and I command that they do not open them until after the Sabbath; and of my servants I have stationed at the gates; there does not come in a burden on the Sabbath day.
20 Les marchands et les vendeurs de toutes sortes de marchandises campaient donc une ou deux fois devant Jérusalem.
And they lodge—the merchants and sellers of all ware—at the outside of Jerusalem, once or twice,
21 Je leur rendis alors témoignage et leur dis: « Pourquoi restez-vous autour de la muraille? Si vous le faites encore, je mettrai la main sur vous. » À partir de ce moment-là, ils ne vinrent plus le jour du sabbat.
and I testify against them, and say to them, “Why are you lodging in front of the wall? If you repeat [it], I put forth a hand on you”; from that time they have not come in on the Sabbath.
22 J'ai ordonné aux Lévites de se purifier et de venir garder les portes, afin de sanctifier le jour du sabbat. Souviens-toi de moi pour cela aussi, mon Dieu, et épargne-moi selon la grandeur de ta bonté.
And I command to the Levites that they be cleansed, and coming in, keeping the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Also, this, remember for me, O my God, and have pity on me, according to the abundance of Your kindness.
23 En ce temps-là, je vis aussi des Juifs qui avaient épousé des femmes d'Asdod, d'Ammon et de Moab;
Also, in those days, I have seen the Jews [who] have settled women of Ashdod, of Ammon, of Moab.
24 et leurs enfants parlaient à demi dans la langue d'Asdod, et ne pouvaient parler dans la langue des Juifs, mais selon la langue de chaque peuple.
And of their sons, half are speaking Ashdoditish—and are not knowing to speak Jewish—and according to the language of people and people.
25 Je les disputai, je les maudis, je frappai quelques-uns d'entre eux, j'arrachai leurs cheveux, et je leur fis jurer par Dieu: Vous ne donnerez pas vos filles à leurs fils, et vous ne prendrez pas leurs filles pour vos fils ou pour vous-mêmes.
And I strive with them, and declare them vile, and strike certain of them, and pluck off their hair, and cause them to swear by God, “You do not give your daughters to their sons, nor do you take of their daughters to your sons, and to yourselves.
26 Salomon, roi d'Israël, n'a-t-il pas péché par ces choses? Pourtant, parmi les nombreuses nations, il n'y avait pas de roi comme lui, et il était aimé de son Dieu, et Dieu l'a établi roi sur tout Israël. Mais les femmes étrangères l'ont fait pécher, lui aussi.
By these did not Solomon king of Israel sin? And among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was beloved by his God, and God makes him king over all Israel—even him [whom] the strange women caused to sin.
27 Allons-nous donc vous écouter pour faire tout ce grand mal, pour transgresser notre Dieu en épousant des femmes étrangères? ".
And do we listen to you to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God, to settle strange women?”
28 L'un des fils de Jojada, fils d'Eliashib, le grand prêtre, était gendre de Sanballat, le Horonite; c'est pourquoi je l'ai chassé de moi.
And [one] of the sons of Joiada son of Eliashib the high priest, [is] son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite, and I cause him to flee from off me.
29 Souviens-toi d'eux, mon Dieu, car ils ont souillé le sacerdoce et l'alliance du sacerdoce et des Lévites.
Be mindful of them, O my God, for the redeemed of the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.
30 C'est ainsi que je les ai purifiés de tout étranger et que j'ai établi des fonctions pour les prêtres et les lévites, chacun dans son travail;
And I have cleansed them from every stranger, and appoint charges to priests and to Levites, each in his work,
31 ainsi que pour l'offrande de bois, aux temps fixés, et pour les prémices. Souviens-toi de moi, mon Dieu, pour le bien.
and for the wood-offering at appointed times, and for first-fruits. Be mindful of me, O my God, for good.
