Nahum 1
1 Une révélation sur Ninive. Le livre de la vision de Nahoum l'Elkoshite.
THE BURDEN of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
2 Yahvé est un Dieu jaloux et vengeur. Yahvé se venge et il est plein de colère. Yahvé se venge de ses adversaires, et il entretient sa colère contre ses ennemis.
The LORD is a jealous and avenging God, the LORD avengeth and is full of wrath; the LORD taketh vengeance on His adversaries, and He reserveth wrath for His enemies.
3 Yahvé est lent à la colère et grand en puissance, et il ne laisse pas le coupable impuni. Yahvé agit dans le tourbillon et dans la tempête, et les nuages sont la poussière de ses pieds.
The LORD is long-suffering, and great in power, and will by no means clear the guilty; the LORD, in the whirlwind and in the storm is His way, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.
4 Il repousse la mer et la met à sec, il assèche tous les fleuves. Le Basan et le Carmel dépérissent. La fleur du Liban dépérit.
He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers; Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
5 Devant lui, les montagnes tremblent, et les collines se fondent. La terre tremble en sa présence, Le monde et tous ceux qui l'habitent.
The mountains quake at Him, and the hills melt; and the earth is upheaved at His presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.
6 Qui peut résister à sa colère? Qui peut supporter l'ardeur de sa colère? Sa colère se répand comme un feu, et les rochers se brisent sous ses coups.
Who can stand before His indignation? And who can abide in the fierceness of His anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder before Him.
7 Yahvé est bon, il est une forteresse au jour de la détresse, et il connaît ceux qui se réfugient en lui.
The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that take refuge in Him.
8 Mais, par une inondation débordante, il détruira sa demeure, et il poursuivra ses ennemis dans les ténèbres.
But with an overrunning flood He will make a full end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue His enemies.
9 Que complotez-vous contre Yahvé? Il l'anéantira. L'affliction ne se lèvera pas une seconde fois.
What do ye devise against the LORD? He will make a full end; trouble shall not rise up the second time.
10 Car, empêtrés comme des épines, ivres comme de leur boisson, ils sont consumés comme du chaume sec.
For though they be like tangled thorns, and be drunken according to their drink, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry.
11 Il en est sorti de vous un qui médite le mal contre Yahvé, qui conseille la méchanceté.
Out of thee came he forth, that deviseth evil against the LORD, that counselleth wickedness.
12 Yahvé dit: « Même s'ils sont en pleine force et aussi nombreux, ils seront abattus et disparaîtront. Je t'ai humilié, mais je ne t'humilierai plus.
Thus saith the LORD: Though they be in full strength, and likewise many, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away; and though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
13 Maintenant, je briserai son joug de dessus toi, et je romprai tes liens. »
And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
14 Yahvé a donné un ordre à ton sujet: « Aucun descendant ne portera plus ton nom. De la maison de vos dieux, j'exterminerai l'image gravée et l'image en fusion. Je ferai votre tombeau, car vous êtes vils. »
And the LORD hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown; out of the house of thy god will I cut off the graven image and the molten image; I will make thy grave; for thou art become worthless.
15 Voici, sur les montagnes, les pieds de celui qui apporte de bonnes nouvelles, qui publie la paix! Garde tes fêtes, Juda! Accomplis tes vœux, car le méchant ne passera plus par toi. Il est exterminé.
Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that announceth peace! Keep thy feasts, O Judah, perform thy vows; for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
