Matthieu 8
1 Lorsqu'il descendit de la montagne, de grandes foules le suivirent.
When he had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him.
2 Voici qu'un lépreux s'approcha de lui et l'adora, disant: « Seigneur, si tu le veux, tu peux me rendre pur. »
And behold, there came a leper and worshiped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
3 Jésus étendit la main et le toucha, en disant: « Je le veux. Sois purifié. » Aussitôt, sa lèpre fut purifiée.
And Jesus put forth [his] hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
4 Jésus lui dit: « Garde-toi de le dire à personne; mais va te montrer au prêtre, et offre le don que Moïse a prescrit, en témoignage pour eux. »
And Jesus saith to him, See thou tell no man; but go, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.
5 Lorsqu'il arriva à Capharnaüm, un centurion vint lui demander du secours,
And when Jesus had entered into Capernaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him,
6 en disant: « Seigneur, mon serviteur est couché dans la maison, paralysé et gravement tourmenté. »
And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick with the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 Jésus lui dit: « Je vais venir et le guérir. »
And Jesus saith to him, I will come and heal him.
8 Le centurion répondit: « Seigneur, je ne suis pas digne que tu viennes sous mon toit. Dis seulement un mot, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant will be healed.
9 Car moi aussi, je suis un homme d'autorité, ayant sous mes ordres des soldats. Je dis à celui-ci: « Va », et il va; je dis à celui-là: « Viens », et il vient; je dis à mon serviteur: « Fais ceci », et il le fait. »
For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this [man], Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth [it].
10 Lorsque Jésus l'entendit, il s'étonna et dit à ceux qui le suivaient: « En vérité, je vous le dis, je n'ai pas trouvé une si grande foi, pas même en Israël.
When Jesus heard [it], he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say to you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
11 Je vous le dis, beaucoup viendront de l'Orient et de l'Occident et s'assiéront avec Abraham, Isaac et Jacob dans le Royaume des cieux,
And I say to you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
12 mais les enfants du Royaume seront jetés dans les ténèbres du dehors. Il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents. »
But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
13 Jésus dit au centurion: « Va, laisse-toi faire. Qu'il soit fait pour toi ce que tu as cru. » Son serviteur fut guéri à l'heure même.
And Jesus said to the centurion, Depart; and as thou hast believed, so be it done to thee. And his servant was healed in the same hour.
14 Lorsque Jésus entra dans la maison de Pierre, il vit la mère de sa femme couchée et atteinte de fièvre.
And when Jesus had come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick with a fever.
15 Il lui toucha la main, et la fièvre la quitta. Alors elle se leva et le servit.
And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered to them.
16 Le soir venu, on lui amena plusieurs personnes possédées de démons. Il chassa les esprits par une parole et guérit tous les malades,
When the evening was come, they brought to him many that were possessed with demons: and he cast out the spirits with [his] word, and healed all that were sick;
17 afin que s'accomplît ce qui avait été annoncé par le prophète Ésaïe: « Il a pris nos infirmités et porté nos maladies. »
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, He himself took our infirmities, and bore [our] sicknesses.
18 Or, voyant une grande foule autour de lui, Jésus donna l'ordre de passer à l'autre rive.
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart to the other side.
19 Un scribe s'approcha et lui dit: « Maître, je te suivrai partout où tu iras. »
And a certain scribe came, and said to him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
20 Jésus lui dit: « Les renards ont des trous et les oiseaux du ciel des nids, mais le Fils de l'homme n'a nulle part où reposer sa tête. »
And Jesus saith to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air [have] nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay [his] head.
21 Un autre de ses disciples lui dit: « Seigneur, permets-moi d'aller d'abord ensevelir mon père. »
And another of his disciples said to him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
22 Mais Jésus lui dit: « Suis-moi, et laisse les morts enterrer leurs propres morts. »
But Jesus said to him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
23 Il monta dans une barque, et ses disciples le suivirent.
And when he had entered into a boat, his disciples followed him.
24 Voici qu'une violente tempête s'éleva sur la mer, au point que la barque fut couverte par les vagues; mais il dormait.
And behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
25 Les disciples s'approchèrent de lui et le réveillèrent, en disant: « Sauve-nous, Seigneur! Nous sommes en train de mourir! »
And his disciples came to [him], and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
26 Il leur dit: « Pourquoi êtes-vous craintifs, ô gens de peu de foi? » Puis il se leva, menaça le vent et la mer, et il y eut un grand calme.
And he saith to them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
27 Les hommes s'étonnaient et disaient: « Quelle sorte d'homme est-ce là, pour que même le vent et la mer lui obéissent? »
But the men marveled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
28 Lorsqu'il arriva de l'autre côté, dans le pays des Gergéséniens, deux personnes possédées de démons le rencontrèrent là, sortant des tombeaux, extrêmement féroces, de sorte que personne ne pouvait passer par là.
And when he had come to the other side, into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with demons, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way.
29 Et voici qu'elles s'écriaient: « Qu'avons-nous à faire avec toi, Jésus, Fils de Dieu? Es-tu venu ici pour nous tourmenter avant le temps? »
And behold, they cried out, saying, What have we [to do] with thee, Jesus, [thou] Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
30 Or, il y avait loin d'eux un troupeau de porcs nombreux qui paissaient.
And there was a good way off from them a herd of many swine, feeding.
31 Les démons le supplièrent, disant: « Si tu nous chasses, permets-nous de nous en aller dans le troupeau de porcs. »
So the demons besought him, saying, If thou expellest us, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine.
32 Il leur dit: « Allez! » Ils sortirent et entrèrent dans le troupeau de porcs; et voici que tout le troupeau de porcs se précipita du haut de la falaise dans la mer et mourut dans l'eau.
And he said to them, Go. And when they had come out, they went into the herd of swine: and behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters.
33 Ceux qui les avaient nourris s'enfuirent et s'en allèrent dans la ville, racontant tout, y compris ce qui était arrivé à ceux qui étaient possédés de démons.
And they that kept them, fled, and went into the city, and told every thing; and what had befallen to the possessed with demons.
34 Et voici que toute la ville sortit à la rencontre de Jésus. Quand ils le virent, ils le supplièrent de s'éloigner de leurs frontières.
And behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their borders.
