Matthieu 5
1 Voyant la foule, il monta sur la montagne. Lorsqu'il se fut assis, ses disciples vinrent à lui.
THEN seeing the multitudes, he went up into the mountain: and seating himself, his disciples came to him:
2 Il ouvrit la bouche et les enseigna, en disant,
and opening his mouth, he taught them, saying,
3 « Heureux les pauvres en esprit, car le Royaume des cieux est à eux.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for their’s is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Heureux ceux qui pleurent, car ils seront réconfortés.
Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5 Heureux les doux, car ils hériteront de la terre.
Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6 Heureux ceux qui ont faim et soif de la justice, car ils seront remplis.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be fed to the full.
7 Heureux les miséricordieux, car ils obtiendront la miséricorde.
Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.
8 Heureux ceux qui ont le cœur pur, car ils verront Dieu.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9 Heureux les artisans de la paix! car ils seront appelés enfants de Dieu.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Heureux ceux qui ont été persécutés pour la justice, car le Royaume des cieux est à eux.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake: for their’s is the kingdom in heaven.
11 Heureux serez-vous lorsque, à cause de moi, on vous outragera, on vous persécutera et on dira faussement toute sorte de mal contre vous.
Blessed are ye, when they shall revile and persecute you, and lying, speak every thing evil against you for my sake.
12 Réjouissez-vous, et soyez dans l'allégresse, car votre récompense sera grande dans les cieux. Car c'est ainsi qu'on a persécuté les prophètes qui ont été avant vous.
Rejoice and exult; for plenteous is your reward in the heavens: for just so they persecuted the prophets who went before you.
13 « Vous êtes le sel de la terre; mais si le sel a perdu sa saveur, avec quoi le salera-t-on? Il n'est alors bon à rien, sinon à être jeté dehors et foulé aux pieds des hommes.
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt become insipid, with what can it be salted? it is of no farther use for any purpose, but to be cast out, and trodden under foot of men.
14 Vous êtes la lumière du monde. Une ville située sur une colline ne peut être cachée.
Ye are the light of the world. A city cannot be hid that is situated on an eminence.
15 On n'allume pas non plus une lampe pour la mettre sous un panier à mesurer, mais sur un support, et elle brille pour tous ceux qui sont dans la maison.
Neither do men burn a lamp, and set it under a bushel, but on its stand; and it sheds light on all that are in the house.
16 De même, que votre lumière brille devant les hommes, afin qu'ils voient vos bonnes œuvres et glorifient votre Père qui est dans les cieux.
Just so let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in the heavens.
17 « Ne croyez pas que je sois venu détruire la loi ou les prophètes. Je ne suis pas venu pour détruire, mais pour accomplir.
Think not that I am come to destroy the law and the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.
18 Car, en vérité, je vous le dis, tant que le ciel et la terre ne passeront pas, il ne disparaîtra pas de la loi une seule petite lettre ou un seul petit trait de plume, jusqu'à ce que tout soit accompli.
For I tell you assuredly, that till heaven and earth pass away, not one iota, or the smallest stroke of a letter, shall pass from the law, until all things shall be accomplished.
19 C'est pourquoi, quiconque transgressera l'un de ces plus petits commandements et enseignera à d'autres à le faire, sera appelé le plus petit dans le Royaume des Cieux; mais quiconque les mettra en pratique et les enseignera sera appelé grand dans le Royaume des Cieux.
Whosoever therefore shall break one of the least of these commandments, and teach men so, he shall be accounted the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall practise, and teach them, he shall be reckoned great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 Car je vous le dis, si votre justice ne dépasse pas celle des scribes et des pharisiens, vous n'entrerez pas dans le Royaume des cieux.
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness abounds more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit aux anciens: « Tu ne commettras pas de meurtre", et « Celui qui commet un meurtre sera exposé au jugement ».
Ye have heard that it was said to the men of antient times, “Thou shalt do no murder;” and whosoever shall commit murder, shall be liable to the judgment:
22 Mais moi, je vous dis que quiconque se met en colère contre son frère sans raison sera en danger de jugement. Celui qui dit à son frère: « Raca!" risque le conseil. Celui qui dira: « Tu es fou », risquera le feu de la géhenne. (Geenna g1067)
but I say unto you, That every man who is angry with his brother without cause, shall be liable to the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be liable to the sanhedrim: but whosever shall say, Thou fool, shall be liable to be cast into hell fire. (Geenna g1067)
23 « Si donc tu présentes ton offrande à l'autel, et que là tu te souviennes que ton frère a quelque chose contre toi,
If therefore thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
24 laisse là ton offrande devant l'autel, et va-t'en. Réconcilie-toi d'abord avec ton frère, puis viens offrir ton offrande.
leave there thy gift before the altar, and go: first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
25 Mets-toi rapidement d'accord avec ton adversaire pendant que tu es avec lui en chemin, de peur que le procureur ne te livre au juge, que le juge ne te livre à l'officier, et que tu ne sois jeté en prison.
Be disposed to agree with thy prosecutor speedily, whilst thou art in the way with him to the bar; lest the prosecutor deliver thee up to the judge, and the judge commit thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
26 En tout cas, je te le dis, tu ne sortiras pas de là avant d'avoir payé le dernier sou.
Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt in no wise come out from thence, till thou hast paid the last farthing.
27 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit: " Tu ne commettras pas d'adultère »;
Ye have heard that it was said to those of old, “Thou shalt not commit adultery:”
28 mais moi, je vous dis que quiconque regarde une femme pour la convoiter a déjà commis un adultère avec elle dans son cœur.
but I say unto you, That every one who looketh upon a woman to lust after her, hath already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 Si ton œil droit te fait trébucher, arrache-le et jette-le loin de toi. Car il est plus avantageux pour toi qu'un seul de tes membres périsse que ton corps tout entier soit jeté dans la géhenne. (Geenna g1067)
If then thine eye, the right, leads thee to offend, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is highly for thy advantage, that one of thy members be destroyed, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
30 Si ta main droite te fait trébucher, coupe-la et jette-la loin de toi. Car il est plus avantageux pour toi que l'un de tes membres périsse, que tout ton corps soit jeté dans la géhenne. (Geenna g1067)
And if thy right hand leads thee to offend, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is highly thy interest that one of thy members should be destroyed, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
31 Il a aussi été dit: « Si quelqu'un répudie sa femme, qu'il lui donne une lettre de divorce ».
It hath been said indeed, That whosoever will put away his wife, let him give her a bill of divorce:
32 Mais moi, je vous dis que si quelqu'un répudie sa femme, sauf pour cause d'immoralité sexuelle, il la rend adultère, et que si quelqu'un l'épouse alors qu'elle est répudiée, il commet un adultère.
But I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except on account of whoredom, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.
33 « Vous avez encore entendu qu'il a été dit aux anciens: Tu ne feras pas de faux serments, mais tu accompliras tes serments envers le Seigneur.
Again ye have heard that it was said to those of old, “Thou shalt not perjure thyself, but shalt perform to the Lord thine oaths:”
34 Mais moi, je vous dis de ne pas jurer du tout: ni par le ciel, car c'est le trône de Dieu;
But I say to thee, Swear not at all; neither by the heaven; for it is the throne of God:
35 ni par la terre, car c'est le marchepied de ses pieds; ni par Jérusalem, car c'est la ville du grand Roi.
nor by the earth; for it is the footstool of his feet: nor by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King:
36 Tu ne jureras pas non plus par ta tête, car on ne peut rendre un cheveu blanc ou noir.
neither shalt thou swear by thy head, for thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37 Mais que ton « oui » soit « oui » et que ton « non » soit « non ». Tout ce qui est plus que cela appartient au malin.
But let your discourse be, Yea, yea; No, no: for all addition to these is from the wicked one.
38 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit: 'Œil pour œil, dent pour dent'.
Ye have heard that it was said, “Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth:”
39 Mais moi, je vous dis de ne pas résister à celui qui fait le mal; mais si quelqu'un te frappe sur la joue droite, tends-lui aussi l'autre.
but I say unto you, Resist not an injurious act; but whosoever shall smite thee on the right cheek, turn to him also the other.
40 Si quelqu'un te poursuit pour te prendre ton manteau, laisse-lui aussi ton manteau.
And if a man will prosecute thee, and take thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 Si quelqu'un te force à faire un kilomètre, fais-en deux avec lui.
And whosoever shall press thee for one mile, go with him two.
42 Donne à celui qui te demande, et ne repousse pas celui qui veut t'emprunter.
Give to him that asketh thee; and from him who wants to borrow of thee, turn not away.
43 Vous avez appris qu'il a été dit: « Tu aimeras ton prochain et tu haïras ton ennemi ».
Ye have heard that it hath been said, “Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.”
44 Mais moi, je vous dis: aimez vos ennemis, bénissez ceux qui vous maudissent, faites du bien à ceux qui vous haïssent, et priez pour ceux qui vous maltraitent et vous persécutent,
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who treat you insolently, and persecute you;
45 afin que vous soyez les enfants de votre Père qui est dans les cieux. Car il fait lever son soleil sur les méchants et sur les bons, et il fait tomber la pluie sur les justes et sur les injustes.
that ye may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he causeth his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and tendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 Car si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quelle récompense aurez-vous? Les collecteurs d'impôts eux-mêmes ne font-ils pas de même?
For if ye love those who love you, what reward have you? do not even the publicans the same thing?
47 Si vous vous contentez de saluer vos amis, que faites-vous de plus que les autres? Les collecteurs d'impôts n' en font-ils pas autant?
And if ye embrace your brethren only, what do ye extraordinary? do not even the publicans so?
48 C'est pourquoi vous devez être parfaits, comme votre Père qui est dans les cieux est parfait.
Be ye therefore perfect, as your Father who is in heaven is perfect.
