Matthieu 22
1 Jésus prit la parole et leur parla de nouveau en paraboles, et dit:
And Jesus answering, again spoke to them in allegories, saying,
2 Le royaume des cieux est semblable à un roi qui fit des noces pour son fils.
“The kingdom of the heavens was likened to a man, a king, who made wedding feasts for his son,
3 Il envoya ses serviteurs appeler les invités aux noces, mais ils ne voulurent pas venir.
and he sent forth his servants to call those having been called to the wedding feasts, and they were not willing to come.
4 Il envoya de nouveau d'autres serviteurs, en disant: « Dites à ceux qui sont invités: « Voici, j'ai préparé mon repas. Mon bétail et mes bêtes grasses sont tués, et tout est prêt. Venez au festin de noces ».
Again he sent forth other servants, saying, Say to those who have been called: Behold, I prepared my early meal, my oxen and the fatlings have been killed, and all things [are] ready, come to the wedding feasts;
5 Mais ils s'en moquèrent et s'en allèrent chacun de leur côté, l'un dans sa ferme, l'autre dans sa marchandise;
and they, having disregarded [it], went away, one to his own field, and the other to his merchandise;
6 et les autres s'emparèrent de ses serviteurs, les traitèrent de façon indigne et les tuèrent.
and the rest, having laid hold on his servants, mistreated and slew [them].
7 Lorsque le roi entendit cela, il se mit en colère, envoya ses armées, fit périr ces meurtriers et brûla leur ville.
And the king having heard, was angry, and having sent forth his soldiers, he destroyed those murderers, and their city he set on fire;
8 « Alors il dit à ses serviteurs: 'Les noces sont prêtes, mais ceux qui ont été invités n'en étaient pas dignes.
then he says to his servants, The wedding feast indeed is ready, and those called were not worthy,
9 Allez donc aux carrefours des routes, et invitez à ces noces tous ceux que vous trouverez.
be going, then, on to the cross-ways, and as many as you may find, call to the wedding feasts.
10 Ces serviteurs allèrent sur les routes et rassemblèrent tous ceux qu'ils trouvèrent, bons et mauvais. Les noces furent remplies d'invités.
And those servants, having gone forth to the ways, gathered all, as many as they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was filled with those reclining.
11 Mais lorsque le roi entra pour voir les invités, il vit là un homme qui n'avait pas de vêtements de noces,
And the king having come in to view those reclining, saw there a man not clothed with wedding clothes,
12 et il lui dit: « Mon ami, comment es-tu entré ici sans vêtements de noces? » Il resta muet.
and he says to him, Friend, how did you come in here, not having wedding clothes? And he was speechless.
13 Alors le roi dit aux serviteurs: « Liez-lui les pieds et les mains, emmenez-le et jetez-le dans les ténèbres du dehors. C'est là qu'il y aura des pleurs et des grincements de dents ».
Then the king said to the servants, Having bound his feet and hands, take him up and cast forth into the outer darkness, there will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth;
14 Car il y a beaucoup d'appelés, mais peu d'élus. »
for many are called, and few chosen.”
15 Alors les pharisiens allèrent se concerter pour savoir comment ils pourraient le piéger dans son discours.
Then the Pharisees having gone, took counsel how they might ensnare Him in words,
16 Ils lui envoyèrent leurs disciples, ainsi que les Hérodiens, en disant: « Maître, nous savons que tu es honnête et que tu enseignes la voie de Dieu en vérité, quels que soient ceux que tu enseignes, car tu n'as de parti pris pour personne.
and they send to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we have known that You are true, and the way of God in truth You teach, and You are not caring for anyone, for You do not look to the face of men;
17 Dis-nous donc ce que tu penses. Est-il licite de payer l'impôt à César, ou non? »
tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar or not?”
18 Mais Jésus, ayant perçu leur méchanceté, dit: « Pourquoi me tentez-vous, hypocrites?
And Jesus having known their wickedness, said, “Why do you tempt Me, hypocrites?
19 Montrez-moi l'argent des impôts. » Ils lui ont apporté un denier.
Show Me the tribute-coin.” And they brought to Him a denarius;
20 Il leur demanda: « A qui appartient cette image et cette inscription? »
and He says to them, “Whose [is] this image and the inscription?”
21 Ils lui ont dit: « A César. » Puis il leur dit: « Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu. »
They say to Him, “Caesar’s”; then He says to them, “Render therefore the things of Caesar to Caesar, and the things of God to God”;
22 Quand ils l'entendirent, ils furent dans l'étonnement, le quittèrent et s'en allèrent.
and having heard they wondered, and having left Him they went away.
23 Ce jour-là, des sadducéens (ceux qui disent qu'il n'y a pas de résurrection) vinrent le trouver. Ils l'interrogèrent,
In that day there came near to Him Sadducees who are saying there is not a resurrection, and they questioned Him, saying,
24 en disant: Maître, Moïse a dit: Si un homme meurt sans avoir d'enfants, son frère épousera sa femme et suscitera une descendance à son frère.
“Teacher, Moses said if anyone may die having no children, his brother will marry his wife, and will raise up seed to his brother.
25 Or, il y avait parmi nous sept frères. Le premier se maria et mourut, et, n'ayant pas de descendance, il laissa sa femme à son frère.
And there were with us seven brothers, and the first having married died, and having no seed, he left his wife to his brother;
26 De même, le second, et le troisième, jusqu'au septième.
in like manner also the second, and the third, to the seventh,
27 Après eux tous, la femme est morte.
and last of all the woman also died;
28 A la résurrection donc, de qui sera-t-elle la femme des sept? Car ils l'ont tous eue. »
therefore in the resurrection, of which of the seven will she be wife—for all had her?”
29 Mais Jésus leur répondit: « Vous êtes dans l'erreur, vous ne connaissez pas les Écritures, ni la puissance de Dieu.
And Jesus answering said to them, “You go astray, not knowing the Writings, nor the power of God;
30 Car, dans la résurrection, ils ne se marient ni ne sont donnés en mariage, mais ils sont comme les anges de Dieu dans le ciel.
for in the resurrection they do not marry, nor are they given in marriage, but are as messengers of God in Heaven.
31 Pour ce qui est de la résurrection des morts, n'avez-vous pas lu ce que Dieu vous a dit, en disant:
And concerning the resurrection of the dead, did you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying,
32 « Je suis le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob »? Dieu n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants. »
I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not a God of dead men, but of living.”
33 Lorsque la foule l'entendit, elle fut étonnée de son enseignement.
And having heard, the multitudes were astonished at His teaching;
34 Mais les pharisiens, ayant appris qu'il avait réduit au silence les sadducéens, se rassemblèrent.
and the Pharisees, having heard that He silenced the Sadducees, were gathered together to Him;
35 L'un d'eux, juriste, lui posa une question pour l'éprouver.
and one of them, a lawyer, questioned, tempting Him, and saying,
36 « Maître, quel est le plus grand commandement de la loi? »
“Teacher, which [is] the great command in the Law?”
37 Jésus lui dit: « Tu aimeras le Seigneur ton Dieu de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme et de toute ta pensée ».
And Jesus said to him, “You will love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your understanding—
38 Tel est le premier et le plus grand des commandements.
this is a first and great command;
39 Un second commandement semblable est celui-ci: « Tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même ».
and the second [is] like to it: You will love your neighbor as yourself;
40 Toute la loi et les prophètes dépendent de ces deux commandements. »
on these—the two commands—all the Law and the Prophets hang.”
41 Comme les pharisiens étaient réunis, Jésus leur posa une question,
And the Pharisees having been gathered together, Jesus questioned them,
42 en disant: « Que pensez-vous du Christ? De qui est-il le fils? » Ils lui ont dit: « De David. »
saying, “What do you think concerning the Christ? Of whom is He Son?” They say to Him, “Of David.”
43 Il leur dit: « Comment donc David, dans l'Esprit, l'appelle-t-il Seigneur, en disant,
He says to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him Lord, saying,
44 « Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur, s'asseoir à ma droite, jusqu'à ce que je fasse de tes ennemis un marchepied pour tes pieds »?
The LORD said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, Until I may make Your enemies Your footstool?
45 « Si donc David l'appelle Seigneur, comment est-il son fils? »
If then David calls Him Lord, how is He his son?”
46 Personne ne put lui répondre un mot, et personne n'osa plus lui poser de questions à partir de ce jour-là.
And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did any dare question Him from that day [on].
