Matthieu 21
1 Lorsqu'ils approchèrent de Jérusalem et arrivèrent à Bethsphage, sur la montagne des Oliviers, Jésus envoya deux disciples,
When they were come near Jerusalem and had arrived at Bethphage and the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of the disciples on in front,
2 en leur disant: « Allez dans le village qui est en face de vous, et vous trouverez aussitôt une ânesse attachée, et un ânon avec elle. Détachez-les et amenez-les-moi.
saying to them, "Go to the village you see facing you, and as you enter it you will find a she-ass tied up and a foal with her. Untie her and bring them to me.
3 Si quelqu'un vous dit quelque chose, vous répondrez: 'Le Seigneur a besoin d'eux', et aussitôt il les enverra. »
And if any one says anything to you, say, 'The Master needs them,' and he will at once send them."
4 Tout cela a été fait afin que s'accomplisse ce qui avait été annoncé par le prophète, en disant,
This took place in order that the Prophet's prediction might be fulfilled:
5 « Dis à la fille de Sion, Voici votre Roi qui vient à vous, humble, et monté sur un âne, sur un ânon, le petit d'une ânesse. »
"Tell the Daughter of Zion, 'See, thy King is coming to thee, gentle, and yet mounted on an ass, even on a colt the foal of a beast of burden.'"
6 Les disciples allèrent et firent ce que Jésus leur avait ordonné.
So the disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them:
7 Ils amenèrent l'âne et l'ânon, mirent leurs vêtements sur eux, et Jésus s'assit dessus.
they brought the she-ass and the foal, and threw their outer garments on them. So He sat on them;
8 Une très grande foule étendit ses vêtements sur la route. D'autres coupèrent des branches d'arbres et les étendirent sur la route.
and most of the crowd kept spreading their garments along the road, while others cut branches from the trees and carpeted the road with them,
9 La foule qui marchait devant lui, et ceux qui le suivaient, ne cessaient de crier: « Hosanna au fils de David! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur! Hosanna au plus haut des cieux! »
and the multitudes--some of the people preceding Him and some following--sang aloud, "God save the Son of David! Blessings on Him who comes in the Lord's name! God in the highest Heavens save Him!"
10 Lorsqu'il arriva à Jérusalem, toute la ville s'agita, en disant: « Qui est celui-ci? »
When He thus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was thrown into commotion, every one inquiring, "Who is this?"
11 Les foules disaient: « C'est le prophète Jésus, de Nazareth en Galilée. »
"This is Jesus, the Prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee," replied the crowds.
12 Jésus entra dans le temple de Dieu, chassa tous ceux qui vendaient et achetaient dans le temple, et renversa les tables des changeurs et les sièges de ceux qui vendaient les colombes.
Entering the Temple, Jesus drove out all who were buying and selling there, and overturned the money-changers' tables and the seats of the pigeon-dealers.
13 Il leur dit: « Il est écrit: « Ma maison sera appelée maison de prière", mais vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs! »
"It is written," He said, "'My House shall be called the House of Prayer', but you are making it a robbers' cave."
14 Les boiteux et les aveugles s'approchaient de lui dans le temple, et il les guérissait.
And the blind and the lame came to Him in the Temple, and He cured them.
15 Mais les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, voyant les prodiges qu'il faisait, et les enfants qui criaient dans le temple et disaient: « Hosanna au fils de David », s'indignèrent,
But when the High Priests and the Scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done and the children who were crying aloud in the Temple, "God save the Son of David," they were filled with indignation.
16 et lui dirent: « Entends-tu ce qu'ils disent? » Jésus leur dit: « Oui. N'avez-vous jamais lu: « C'est de la bouche des enfants et des nourrissons que tu as fait sortir la louange? »"
"Do you hear," they asked Him, "what these children are saying?" "Yes," He replied; "have you never read, 'Out of the mouths of infants and of babes at the breast Thou hast brought forth the praise which is due'?"
17 Il les quitta, sortit de la ville et se rendit à Béthanie, où il campa.
So He left them and went out of the city to Bethany and passed the night there.
18 Le matin, comme il retournait à la ville, il eut faim.
Early in the morning as He was on His way to return to the city He was hungry,
19 Voyant un figuier au bord du chemin, il s'en approcha et n'y trouva que des feuilles. Il lui dit: « Qu'il n'y ait pas de fruit de toi pour toujours! ». Aussitôt, le figuier se dessèche. (aiōn g165)
and seeing a fig-tree on the road-side He went up to it, but found nothing on it but leaves. "On you," He said, "no fruit shall ever again grow." And immediately the fig-tree withered away. (aiōn g165)
20 Les disciples, voyant cela, s'étonnèrent et dirent: « Comment le figuier a-t-il pu se dessécher aussitôt? »
When the disciples saw it they exclaimed in astonishment, "How instantaneously the fig-tree has withered away!"
21 Jésus leur répondit: « Je vous le dis en vérité, si vous avez la foi et ne doutez pas, non seulement vous ferez ce qui a été fait au figuier, mais même si vous disiez à cette montagne: « Prends-toi et jette-toi dans la mer », cela se ferait.
"I solemnly tell you," said Jesus, "that if you have an unwavering faith, you shall not only perform such a miracle as this of the fig-tree, but that even if you say to this mountain, 'Be thou lifted up and hurled into the sea,' it shall be done;
22 Tout ce que vous demanderez dans la prière, en croyant, vous le recevrez. »
and everything, whatever it be, that you ask for in your prayers, if you have faith, you shall obtain."
23 Comme il était entré dans le temple, les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple s'approchèrent de lui pendant qu'il enseignait, et dirent: « Par quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses? Qui t'a donné cette autorité? »
He entered the Temple; and while He was teaching, the High Priests and the Elders of the people came to Him and asked Him, "By what authority are you doing these things? and who gave you this authority?"
24 Jésus leur répondit: « Je vous poserai aussi une question; si vous me la répondez, je vous dirai de même par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
"And I also have a question to ask you," replied Jesus, "and if you answer me, I in turn will tell you by what authority I do these things.
25 Le baptême de Jean, d'où venait-il? Du ciel ou des hommes? » Ils raisonnaient ainsi entre eux: « Si nous disons: « Du ciel », il nous demandera: « Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas cru en lui? »
John's Baptism, whence was it? --had it a heavenly or a human origin?" So they debated the matter among themselves. "If we say 'a heavenly origin,'" they argued, "he will say, 'Why then did you not believe him?'
26 Mais si nous disons: « Des hommes », nous craignons la foule, car tous tiennent Jean pour un prophète. »
and if we say 'a human origin' we have the people to fear, for they all hold John to have been a Prophet."
27 Ils répondirent à Jésus: « Nous ne savons pas. » Il leur dit aussi: « Je ne vous dirai pas non plus par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
So they answered Jesus, "We do not know." "Nor do I tell you," He replied, "by what authority I do these things."
28 Mais qu'en pensez-vous? Un homme avait deux fils. Il vint trouver le premier et lui dit: « Mon fils, va travailler aujourd'hui dans ma vigne.
"But give me your judgement. There was a man who had two sons. He came to the elder of them, and said, "'My son, go and work in the vineyard to-day.'
29 Il répondit: « Je ne veux pas », mais il changea d'avis après coup et y alla.
"'I will not,' he replied. "But afterwards he was sorry, and went.
30 Il vint au second, et lui dit la même chose. Il répondit: « Je m'en vais, monsieur », mais il n'y alla pas.
He came to the second and spoke in the same manner. His answer was, "'I will go, Sir.' "But he did not go.
31 Lequel des deux a fait la volonté de son père? » Ils lui dirent: « Le premier. » Jésus leur dit: « Je vous le dis en vérité, les publicains et les prostituées entrent avant vous dans le Royaume de Dieu.
Which of the two did as his father desired?" "The first," they said. "I solemnly tell you,' replied Jesus, "that the tax-gatherers and the notorious sinners are entering the Kingdom of God in front of you.
32 Car Jean est venu à vous dans la voie de la justice, et vous ne l'avez pas cru; mais les publicains et les prostituées l'ont cru. Quand vous l'avez vu, vous ne vous êtes même pas repentis après coup, afin de le croire.
For John came to you observing all sorts of ritual, and you put no faith in him: the tax-gatherers and the notorious sinners did put faith in him, and you, though you saw this example set you, were not even afterwards sorry so as to believe him.
33 « Écoutez une autre parabole. Il y avait un homme, maître de maison, qui planta une vigne, l'entoura d'une haie, y creusa un pressoir, construisit une tour, l'afferma à des fermiers et partit pour un autre pays.
"Listen to another parable. There was a householder who planted a vineyard, made a fence round it, dug a wine-tank in it, and built a strong lodge; then let the place to vine-dressers, and went abroad.
34 Lorsque la saison des fruits approchait, il envoyait ses serviteurs chez les fermiers pour recevoir ses fruits.
When vintage-time approached, he sent his servants to the vine-dressers to receive his share of the grapes;
35 Les fermiers prirent ses serviteurs, en battirent un, en tuèrent un autre et en lapidèrent un autre.
but the vine-dressers seized the servants, and one they cruelly beat, one they killed, one they pelted with stones.
36 Il envoya de nouveau d'autres serviteurs, plus nombreux que les premiers, et ils les traitèrent de la même manière.
Again he sent another party of servants more numerous than the first; and these they treated in the same manner.
37 Ensuite, il leur envoya son fils, en disant: « Ils respecteront mon fils.
Later still he sent to them his son, saying, "'They will respect my son.'
38 Mais les paysans, voyant le fils, dirent entre eux: « C'est l'héritier. Venez, tuons-le et saisissons son héritage.
"But the vine-dressers, when they saw the son, said to one another, "'Here is the heir: come, let us kill him and get his inheritance.'
39 Ils le prirent donc et le jetèrent hors de la vigne, puis le tuèrent.
"So they seized him, dragged him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
40 Quand donc le maître de la vigne viendra, que fera-t-il à ces fermiers? »
When then the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vine-dressers?"
41 Ils lui dirent: « Il détruira misérablement ces misérables, et louera la vigne à d'autres fermiers qui lui donneront les fruits en leur saison. »
"He will put the wretches to a wretched death," was the reply, "and will entrust the vineyard to other vine-dressers who will render the produce to him at the vintage season."
42 Jésus leur dit: « N'avez-vous jamais lu dans les Écritures, « La pierre que les bâtisseurs ont rejetée a été nommé à la tête du coin. Cela venait du Seigneur. C'est merveilleux à nos yeux »?
"Have you never read in the Scriptures," said Jesus, "'The Stone which the builders rejected has been made the Cornerstone: this Cornerstone came from the Lord, and is wonderful in our eyes'?
43 « C'est pourquoi je vous le dis, le Royaume de Dieu vous sera enlevé et sera donné à une nation qui produit son fruit.
"That, I tell you, is the reason why the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and given to a nation that will exhibit the power of it.
44 Celui qui tombera sur cette pierre sera brisé en morceaux, mais celui sur qui elle tombera, elle le dispersera comme de la poussière. »
He who falls on this stone will be severely hurt; but he on whom it falls will be utterly crushed."
45 Les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens, ayant entendu ses paraboles, comprirent qu'il parlait d'eux.
After listening to His parables the High Priests and the Pharisees perceived that He was speaking about them;
46 Lorsqu'ils cherchaient à se saisir de lui, ils craignaient la foule, parce qu'elle le considérait comme un prophète.
but though they were eager to lay hands upon Him, they were afraid of the people, for by them He was regarded as a Prophet.
