Matthieu 15
1 Alors des pharisiens et des scribes vinrent de Jérusalem vers Jésus, en disant:
THEN came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem, saying,
2 « Pourquoi tes disciples désobéissent-ils à la tradition des anciens? Car ils ne se lavent pas les mains quand ils mangent du pain. »
Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread?
3 Il leur répondit: Pourquoi, vous aussi, désobéissez-vous au commandement de Dieu, à cause de votre tradition?
And he answering said to them, And why do you transgress the command of God, by your tradition?
4 Car Dieu a ordonné: « Honore ton père et ta mère", et: « Que celui qui parle mal de son père ou de sa mère soit mis à mort ».
For God commanded, saying “Honour thy father and thy mother:” and, He that curseth father or mother, let him surely die.
5 Mais vous dites: « Celui qui dira à son père ou à sa mère: « L'aide que vous auriez pu obtenir de moi est un don consacré à Dieu »,
But ye say, If any man declare to his father or mother, This is a devoted gift, which else might have been employed by me for thy advantage;
6 n'honorera ni son père ni sa mère. Vous avez rendu nul le commandement de Dieu à cause de votre tradition.
then he shall not with it honour his father and mother: so have ye vacated the command of God by your tradition.
7 Hypocrites! Ésaïe a bien prophétisé sur vous, en disant,
Ye hypocrites, well hath Isaiah prophesied concerning you, saying,
8 Ces gens-là s'approchent de moi avec leur bouche, et m'honorent de leurs lèvres; mais leur cœur est loin de moi.
This people draweth nigh to me with their mouths, and honoureth me with the lips, but their heart is far distant from me.
9 Et ils m'adorent en vain, d'enseigner comme doctrine des règles faites par les hommes''.
But in vain do they worship me, teaching doctrines the commandments of men.
10 Il convoqua la foule, et lui dit: « Écoutez, et comprenez.
And he called to him the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
11 Ce qui entre dans la bouche ne souille pas l'homme; mais ce qui sort de la bouche, cela souille l'homme. »
not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but what cometh out of the mouth, that defileth the man.
12 Alors les disciples s'approchèrent et lui dirent: « Sais-tu que les pharisiens ont été scandalisés en entendant cette parole? »
Then his disciples approaching, said to him, Knowest thou how offended the Pharisees were at hearing that speech?
13 Mais il répondit: « Toute plante que mon Père céleste n'a pas plantée sera déracinée.
Then he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up.
14 Laissez-les tranquilles. Ce sont des aveugles qui guident des aveugles. Si l'aveugle guide l'aveugle, tous deux tomberont dans une fosse. »
Leave them to themselves: they are blind leaders of the blind. But if the blind lead the blind, they will both fall into the pit.
15 Pierre lui répondit: « Explique-nous la parabole. »
Then Peter answering said unto him, Explain to us this parable.
16 Alors Jésus dit: « Vous aussi, vous ne comprenez pas encore?
And Jesus said, Are ye also to this time destitute of intelligence?
17 Ne comprenez-vous pas que ce qui entre dans la bouche passe dans le ventre et sort ensuite du corps?
Do ye not observe, that every thing which entereth into the mouth passeth into the belly, and is ejected into the vault?
18 Mais les choses qui sortent de la bouche sortent du cœur, et elles souillent l'homme.
But the things which go forth out of the mouth, come out of the heart, and they are the things which defile a man:
19 Car c'est du cœur que viennent les mauvaises pensées, les meurtres, les adultères, les péchés sexuels, les vols, les faux témoignages, les blasphèmes.
for out of the heart proceed wicked reasonings, murders, adulteries, whoredoms, thefts, false testimonies, blasphemies:
20 Ce sont là des choses qui souillent l'homme; mais manger avec des mains non lavées ne souille pas l'homme. »
these are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashed hands doth not defile a man.
21 Jésus sortit de là et se retira dans la région de Tyr et de Sidon.
And going forth thence, Jesus retired into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 Voici qu'une femme cananéenne sortit de ces frontières et s'écria: « Aie pitié de moi, Seigneur, fils de David! Ma fille est gravement possédée par un démon! »
And lo! a woman of Canaan coming out of these coasts, cried aloud, saying to him, Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David: my daughter is a grievous demoniac.
23 Mais il ne lui répondit pas un mot. Ses disciples vinrent le supplier, en disant: « Renvoie-la, car elle crie après nous. »
But he replied not a word to her. Then his disciples came and intreated him, saying, Send her away; for she is crying aloud after us.
24 Mais il répondit: « Je n'ai été envoyé qu'aux brebis perdues de la maison d'Israël. »
But he said in reply, I am not sent, save only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Mais elle vint et l'adora, disant: « Seigneur, aide-moi. »
Then she came, and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me!
26 Mais il répondit: « Il ne convient pas de prendre le pain des enfants et de le jeter aux chiens. »
But he answering said, It is not proper to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.
27 Mais elle répondit: « Oui, Seigneur, mais même les chiens mangent les miettes qui tombent de la table de leurs maîtres. »
And she said, True, Lord: yet even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master’s table.
28 Alors Jésus lui répondit: « Femme, grande est ta foi! Qu'il te soit fait comme tu le désires. » Et sa fille fut guérie dès cette heure-là.
Then Jesus answering said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith! be it unto thee even as thou desirest. And her daughter was cured from that hour.
29 Jésus partit de là et s'approcha de la mer de Galilée; il monta sur la montagne et s'y assit.
And departing thence, Jesus went to the sea-side of Galilee; and ascending a mountain, he sat down there.
30 De grandes foules vinrent à lui, ayant avec elles des boiteux, des aveugles, des muets, des estropiés et beaucoup d'autres, et elles les déposèrent à ses pieds. Il les guérit,
And great multitudes came to him, bringing with them the lame, blind, dumb, cripples, and many others, and cast them down at the feet of Jesus; and he cured them all:
31 de sorte que la foule était dans l'admiration en voyant le muet parler, le blessé guérir, le boiteux marcher et l'aveugle voir, et elle glorifiait le Dieu d'Israël.
insomuch that the multitude marvelled when they saw the dumb speaking, the cripples sound, the lame walking, and the blind restored to sight: and they glorified the God of Israel.
32 Jésus convoqua ses disciples et leur dit: « J'ai pitié de la foule, car cela fait trois jours qu'ils restent avec moi et ils n'ont rien à manger. Je ne veux pas les renvoyer à jeun, car ils pourraient s'évanouir en chemin. »
Then Jesus calling his disciples, said, I have compassion on the multitude, for they have now continued with me three days, and have not any thing to eat: and send them away fasting I will not, lest they faint on the road.
33 Les disciples lui dirent: « Où pourrions-nous trouver autant de pains dans un lieu désert pour rassasier une si grande multitude? »
And his disciples said unto him, Whence can we in the wilderness have loaves enough to satisfy the cravings of so great a multitude?
34 Jésus leur dit: « Combien de pains avez-vous? » Ils ont dit: « Sept, et quelques petits poissons. »
And Jesus said unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few small fishes.
35 Il ordonna à la foule de s'asseoir par terre,
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
36 et il prit les sept pains et les poissons. Il rendit grâces, les rompit, les donna aux disciples, et les disciples à la foule.
And taking the seven loaves and the fishes, he gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
37 Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés. Ils emportèrent sept corbeilles pleines des morceaux qui restaient.
And they did all eat, and were filled: and took up a superabundance of fragments seven baskets full.
38 Ceux qui mangèrent étaient quatre mille hommes, sans compter les femmes et les enfants.
And they that had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children.
39 Puis il renvoya la foule, monta dans la barque et arriva dans le territoire de Magdala.
And dismissing the multitudes he went on board a vessel, and came into the coasts of Magdala.
