Marc 8
1 En ces jours-là, comme il y avait une très grande foule et qu'ils n'avaient rien à manger, Jésus appela ses disciples et leur dit:
About that time, when there was again a great crowd of people who had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him, and said,
2 « J'ai pitié de la foule, parce qu'elle est restée trois jours avec moi et qu'elle n'a rien à manger.
‘My heart is moved at the sight of all these people, for they have already been with me three days and they have nothing to eat;
3 Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, ils s'évanouiront en chemin, car certains d'entre eux ont fait un long voyage. »
and if I send them away to their homes hungry, they will break down on the way; and some of them have come a long distance.’
4 Ses disciples lui répondirent: « D'où pourrait-on rassasier ces gens de pain, ici, dans un lieu désert? »
‘Where will it be possible,’ his disciples answered, ‘to get sufficient bread for these people in this lonely place?’
5 Il leur demanda: « Combien de pains avez-vous? » Ils ont dit: « Sept. »
‘How many loaves have you?’ he asked. ‘Seven,’ they answered.
6 Il ordonna à la foule de s'asseoir par terre, et il prit les sept pains. Après avoir rendu grâces, il les rompit et les donna à ses disciples pour qu'ils les servent, et ils servirent la foule.
Jesus told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves, and, after saying the thanksgiving, broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve out; and they served them out to the crowd.
7 Ils avaient aussi quelques petits poissons. Après les avoir bénis, il leur dit de les servir aussi.
They had also a few small fish; and, after he had said the blessing, he told the disciples to serve out these as well.
8 Ils mangèrent et furent rassasiés. Ils emportèrent sept paniers des morceaux qui restaient.
The people had sufficient to eat, and they picked up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left.
9 Ceux qui avaient mangé étaient environ quatre mille. Puis il les renvoya.
There were about four thousand people. Then Jesus dismissed them.
10 Aussitôt, il monta dans la barque avec ses disciples et arriva dans la région de Dalmanutha.
Immediately afterwards, getting into the boat with his disciples, Jesus went to the district of Dalmanutha.
11 Les pharisiens sortirent et se mirent à l'interroger, cherchant à obtenir de lui un signe du ciel et l'éprouvant.
Here the Pharisees came out, and began to argue with Jesus, asking him for some sign from the heavens, to test him.
12 Il soupira profondément en son esprit et dit: « Pourquoi cette génération cherche-t-elle un signe? En vérité, je vous le dis, aucun signe ne sera donné à cette génération. »
Sighing deeply, Jesus said, ‘Why does this generation ask for a sign? I tell you, no sign will be given it.’
13 Il les quitta, et, montant de nouveau dans la barque, il partit pour l'autre rive.
So he left them to themselves, and, getting into the boat again, went away to the opposite shore.
14 Ils avaient oublié de prendre du pain, et ils n'avaient pas plus d'un pain avec eux dans la barque.
Now the disciples had forgotten to take any bread with them, one loaf being all that they had in the boat.
15 Il les avertit en disant: « Prenez garde: gardez-vous du levain des pharisiens et du levain d'Hérode. »
So Jesus gave them this warning. ‘Take care,’ he said, ‘beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.’
16 Ils raisonnaient entre eux, disant: « C'est parce que nous n'avons pas de pain. »
They began talking to one another about their being short of bread;
17 Jésus, s'en apercevant, leur dit: « Pourquoi pensez-vous que c'est parce que vous n'avez pas de pain? Ne voyez-vous pas encore, ne comprenez-vous pas? Votre cœur est-il encore endurci?
and, noticing this, Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you talking about your being short of bread? Don’t you yet see or understand? Are your minds still so slow or comprehension?
18 Ayant des yeux, ne voyez-vous pas? Vous avez des oreilles, n'entendez-vous pas? Ne vous souvenez-vous pas?
Though you have eyes, do you not see? And though you have ears, do you not hear? Don’t you remember,
19 Quand j'ai rompu les cinq pains pour les cinq mille, combien de paniers pleins de morceaux avez-vous emportés? » Ils lui ont dit: « Douze. »
when I broke up the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets of broken pieces you picked up?’ ‘Twelve,’ they said.
20 « Lorsque les sept pains ont nourri les quatre mille personnes, combien de paniers pleins de morceaux avez-vous emportés? » Ils lui ont dit: « Sept. »
‘And when the seven for the four thousand, how many basketfuls of broken pieces did you pick up?’ ‘Seven,’ they said.
21 Il leur demanda: « Vous ne comprenez pas encore? »
‘Don’t you understand now?’ he repeated.
22 Il arriva à Bethsaïda. On lui amena un aveugle, et on le pria de le toucher.
They came to Bethsaida. There some people brought a blind man to Jesus, and begged him to touch him.
23 Il saisit l'aveugle par la main, et le fit sortir du village. Après lui avoir craché sur les yeux et lui avoir imposé les mains, il lui demanda s'il voyait quelque chose.
Taking the blind man’s hand, Jesus led him to the outskirts of the village, and, when he had put saliva on the man’s eyes, he placed his hands on him, and asked him, ‘Do you see anything?’
24 Il leva les yeux et dit: « Je vois des hommes, mais je les vois comme des arbres qui marchent. »
The man looked up, and said, ‘I see the people, for, as they walk about, they look to me like trees.’
25 Puis, de nouveau, il posa ses mains sur ses yeux. Il regarda attentivement, et, rétabli, il vit clairement tout le monde.
Then Jesus again placed his hands on the man’s eyes; and the man saw clearly, his sight was restored, and he saw everything with perfect distinctness.
26 Il le renvoya dans sa maison, en disant: « N'entre pas dans le village et ne le dis à personne dans le village. »
Jesus sent him to his home, and said, ‘Do not go even into the village.’
27 Jésus se rendit, avec ses disciples, dans les villages de Césarée de Philippe. En chemin, il demanda à ses disciples: « Qui dit-on que je suis? »
Afterwards Jesus and his disciples went into the villages round Caesarea Philippi; and on the way he asked his disciples this question – ‘Who do people say that I am?’
28 Ils lui dirent: « Jean le Baptiseur, d'autres disent Élie, mais d'autres encore, un des prophètes. »
‘John the Baptist,’ they answered, ‘but others say Elijah, while others say one of the prophets.’
29 Il leur dit: « Mais qui dites-vous que je suis? » Pierre a répondu: « Tu es le Christ. »
‘But you,’ he asked, ‘who do you say that I am?’ To this Peter replied, ‘You are the Christ.’
30 Il leur ordonna de ne parler de lui à personne.
At which Jesus charged them not to say this about him to anyone.
31 Il se mit à leur enseigner que le Fils de l'homme devait souffrir beaucoup, être rejeté par les anciens, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, être tué, et ressusciter après trois jours.
Then he began to teach them that the Son of Man must undergo much suffering, and that he must be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law, and be put to death, and rise again after three days.
32 Il leur parlait ouvertement. Pierre le prit et se mit à le réprimander.
He said all this quite openly. But Peter took Jesus aside, and began to rebuke him.
33 Mais lui, se retournant et voyant ses disciples, réprimanda Pierre, et dit: « Écarte-toi de moi, Satan! Car tu as en vue non les choses de Dieu, mais les choses des hommes. »
Jesus, however, turning round and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter. ‘Out of my sight, Satan!’ he exclaimed. ‘For you look at things, not as God does, but as people do.’
34 Il appela la foule avec ses disciples et leur dit: « Que celui qui veut venir après moi renonce à lui-même, se charge de sa croix et me suive.
Calling the people and his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘If anyone wishes to walk in my steps, they must renounce self, take up their cross, and follow me.
35 En effet, quiconque veut sauver sa vie la perdra; et quiconque perdra sa vie à cause de moi et de la Bonne Nouvelle la sauvera.
For whoever wishes to save their life will lose it, and whoever, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, will lose their life will save it.
36 En effet, que sert à un homme de gagner le monde entier et de perdre sa vie?
What good is it to a person to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
37 Car que donnera l'homme en échange de sa vie?
For what could a person give that is of equal value with their life?
38 Car quiconque aura honte de moi et de mes paroles dans cette génération adultère et pécheresse, le Fils de l'homme aussi aura honte de lui quand il viendra dans la gloire de son Père avec les saints anges. »
Whoever is ashamed of me and of my teaching, in this unfaithful and wicked generation, of them will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.’
