1 Quelques jours après, il entra de nouveau à Capernaüm, et l'on apprit qu'il était chez lui.
And again he entered into Capernaum, after [some] days; and it was understood that he was in the house.
2 Aussitôt, plusieurs se rassemblèrent, au point qu'il n'y avait plus de place, pas même autour de la porte; et il leur adressa la parole.
And forthwith many were assembled, so that there was no room to receive [them], no not so much as about the door: and he preached the word to them.
3 Quatre personnes vinrent, lui portant un paralytique.
And they come to him, bringing one sick with the palsy, who was borne by four.
4 Comme ils ne pouvaient s'approcher de lui à cause de la foule, ils enlevèrent le toit où il se trouvait. Après l'avoir brisé, ils descendirent la natte sur laquelle était couché le paralytique.
And when they could not come nigh to him by reason of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken [it] up, they let down the bed on which the sick with the palsy lay.
5 Jésus, voyant leur foi, dit au paralytique: « Mon fils, tes péchés te sont pardonnés. »
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the sick with the palsy, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.
6 Mais quelques-uns des scribes, assis là, raisonnaient dans leur cœur:
But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
7 « Pourquoi cet homme profère-t-il de tels blasphèmes? Qui peut pardonner les péchés, sinon Dieu seul? »
Why doth this [man] thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
8 Aussitôt, Jésus, voyant dans son esprit qu'ils raisonnaient ainsi en eux-mêmes, leur dit: « Pourquoi raisonnez-vous ainsi dans vos cœurs?
And immediately, when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said to them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
9 Lequel est le plus facile, de dire au paralytique: Tes péchés sont pardonnés, ou de lui dire: Lève-toi, prends ton lit et marche?
Which is easier, to say to the sick with the palsy, [Thy] sins are forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
10 Mais, afin que vous sachiez que le Fils de l'homme a sur la terre le pouvoir de pardonner les péchés, il dit au paralytique:
But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, he saith to the sick with the palsy,
11 Je te le dis, lève-toi, prends ton lit et va dans ta maison.
I say to thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go into thy house.
12 Il se leva, prit aussitôt le tapis et sortit devant eux tous, de sorte qu'ils furent tous stupéfaits et glorifièrent Dieu, en disant: « Nous n'avons jamais rien vu de tel! »
And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; so that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
13 Il sortit de nouveau au bord de la mer. Toute la foule venait à lui, et il les enseignait.
And he went forth again by the sea -[side]; and all the multitude resorted to him, and he taught them.
14 Comme il passait, il vit Lévi, fils d'Alphée, assis au bureau des impôts. Il lui dit: « Suis-moi. » Et il se leva et le suivit.
And as he passed by, he saw Levi the [son] of Alpheus, sitting at the receipt of custom, and said to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
15 Il était à table dans sa maison, et beaucoup de publicains et de pécheurs étaient assis avec Jésus et ses disciples, car ils étaient nombreux, et ils le suivaient.
And it came to pass, that as Jesus sat at table in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also together with Jesus and his disciples; for there were many, and they followed him.
16 Les scribes et les pharisiens, voyant qu'il mangeait avec les pécheurs et les publicains, dirent à ses disciples: « Pourquoi mange-t-il et boit-il avec les publicains et les pécheurs? »
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eating with publicans and sinners, they said to his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners.
17 Ayant entendu cela, Jésus leur dit: « Ceux qui sont en bonne santé n'ont pas besoin de médecin, mais ceux qui sont malades. Je suis venu non pas pour appeler les justes, mais les pécheurs à la repentance. »
When Jesus heard [it], he saith to them, They that are in health, have no need of a physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.
18 Les disciples de Jean et les pharisiens étaient en train de jeûner, et ils vinrent lui demander: « Pourquoi les disciples de Jean et les disciples des pharisiens jeûnent-ils, mais tes disciples ne jeûnent pas? »
And the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees, used to fast: and they come, and say to him, Why do the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?
19 Jésus leur dit: « Les mariés peuvent-ils jeûner tant que l'époux est avec eux? Tant qu'ils ont l'époux avec eux, ils ne peuvent pas jeûner.
And Jesus said to them, Can the children of the bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.
20 Mais les jours viendront où l'époux leur sera enlevé, et alors ils jeûneront en ce jour-là.
But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then they will fast in those days.
21 Personne ne coud une pièce de tissu non trempé sur un vieux vêtement, sinon la pièce se rétracte et le nouveau se détache du vieux, et le trou est pire.
No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment: else the new piece that filled it up, taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
22 Personne ne met du vin nouveau dans de vieilles outres, sinon le vin nouveau fait éclater les outres, et le vin se répand, et les outres sont détruites; mais on met du vin nouveau dans des outres neuves. »
And no man putteth new wine into old bottles, else the new wine doth burst the bottles, and the wine is spilled, and the bottles will be marred: but new wine must be put into new bottles.
23 Il traversait les champs de blé, le jour du sabbat, et ses disciples se mirent à arracher les épis.
And it came to pass, that he went through the corn-fields on the sabbath; and his disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn.
24 Les pharisiens lui dirent: « Voici, pourquoi font-ils ce qui n'est pas permis le jour du sabbat? »
And the Pharisees said to him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath that which is not lawful?
25 Il leur dit: « N'avez-vous jamais lu ce que fit David, quand il était dans le besoin et qu'il avait faim, et ceux qui étaient avec lui?
And he said to them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he and they that were with him?
26 Comment il entra dans la maison de Dieu au moment où Abiathar, le grand prêtre, mangea le pain de proposition, qu'il n'est pas permis de manger, sauf pour les prêtres, et en donna aussi à ceux qui étaient avec lui? »
How he went into the house of God, in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the show-bread, which it is not lawful to eat, but for the priests, and gave also to them who were with him?
27 Il leur dit: « Le sabbat a été fait pour l'homme, et non l'homme pour le sabbat.
And he said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
28 C'est pourquoi le Fils de l'homme est maître même du sabbat. »
Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
