Luc 9
1 Il convoqua les douze et leur donna le pouvoir de vaincre tous les démons et de guérir les maladies.
And getting the twelve together, he gave them power and authority over all evil spirits and over diseases, to make them well.
2 Il les envoya prêcher le Royaume de Dieu et guérir les malades.
And he sent them out to be preachers of the kingdom of God, and to make well those who were ill.
3 Il leur dit: « Ne prenez rien pour votre voyage: ni bâton, ni portefeuille, ni pain, ni argent. N'ayez pas deux tuniques chacun.
And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, no stick or bag or bread or money, and do not take two coats.
4 Dans quelque maison que vous entriez, restez-y, et sortez de là.
And if you go into a house, let that house be your resting-place till you go away.
5 Tous ceux qui ne vous recevront pas, en sortant de cette ville, secouez même la poussière de vos pieds, en témoignage contre eux. »
And if any people will not take you in, when you go away from that town, put off its dust from your feet for a witness against them.
6 Ils partirent et parcoururent les villages, prêchant la Bonne Nouvelle et guérissant partout.
And they went away, journeying through all the towns, preaching the good news and making people free from diseases in all places.
7 Hérode, le tétrarque, apprit tout ce qu'il avait fait, et il fut très troublé, parce que les uns disaient que Jean était ressuscité des morts,
Now Herod the king had news of all these things: and he was in doubt, because it was said by some people that John had come back from the dead;
8 les autres qu'Élie était apparu, et d'autres encore qu'un des anciens prophètes était ressuscité.
And by some, that Elijah had come; and by others, that one of the old prophets had come back to life.
9 Hérode dit: « J'ai décapité Jean, mais qui est celui-ci, dont j'entends dire tant de choses? » Il chercha à le voir.
And Herod said, I put John to death: but who is this, of whom such stories are given to me? And he had a desire to see him.
10 Les apôtres, à leur retour, lui racontèrent ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il les prit et se retira à l'écart, dans un endroit désert, dans une ville appelée Bethsaïda.
And the twelve, when they came back, gave him an account of what they had done. And he took them with him and went away from the people to a town named Beth-saida.
11 Mais la foule, s'en apercevant, le suivit. Il les accueillit, leur parla du Royaume de Dieu, et il guérit ceux qui avaient besoin d'être guéris.
But the people, getting news of it, went after him: and he was pleased to see them, and gave them teaching about the kingdom of God, and made those well who were in need of it.
12 Le jour commençait à baisser; les douze vinrent lui dire: « Renvoie la foule, afin qu'elle aille dans les villages et les fermes d'alentour, qu'elle se loge et se procure de la nourriture, car nous sommes ici dans un lieu désert. »
And the day went on; and the twelve came to him and said, Send these people away so that they may go into the towns and the country round about and get resting-places and food for themselves, for we are in a waste place.
13 Mais il leur dit: « Vous leur donnez à manger. » Ils dirent: « Nous n'avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins que nous n'allions acheter de la nourriture pour tous ces gens. »
But he said, Give them food yourselves. And they said, We have only five cakes of bread and two fishes, if we do not go and get food for all these people.
14 Car ils étaient environ cinq mille hommes. Il dit à ses disciples: « Faites-les s'asseoir par groupes d'environ cinquante chacun. »
For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them be seated in groups, about fifty to a group.
15 Ils firent ainsi, et les firent tous s'asseoir.
And they did so, and made them all be seated.
16 Il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, et, levant les yeux au ciel, il les bénit, les rompit et les donna aux disciples pour qu'ils les présentent à la foule.
And he took the five cakes of bread and the two fishes and, looking up to heaven, he said words of blessing over them, and when they had been broken, he gave them to the disciples to give to the people.
17 Ils mangèrent et furent tous rassasiés. Ils ramassèrent les douze paniers de morceaux qui restaient.
And they all took the food and had enough; and they took up of the broken bits which were over, twelve baskets full.
18 Comme il priait seul, les disciples étaient près de lui, et il leur demanda: « Qui les foules disent-elles que je suis? »
And it came about that when he was in prayer, by himself, and the disciples were with him, he put a question to them, saying, Who do the people say I am?
19 Ils répondirent: « Jean le Baptiseur, mais d'autres disent: Élie, et d'autres encore, qu'un des anciens prophètes est ressuscité. »
And they, answering, said, John the Baptist; but others say Elijah; and others, that one of the old prophets has come back.
20 Il leur dit: « Mais qui dites-vous que je suis? » Pierre répondit: « Le Christ de Dieu. »
And he said, But who do you say that I am? And Peter, answering, said, The Christ of God.
21 Mais il les avertit et leur ordonna de ne le dire à personne,
But he gave them special orders, not to say this to any man;
22 en disant: « Il faut que le Fils de l'homme souffre beaucoup, qu'il soit rejeté par les anciens, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, qu'il soit tué, et qu'il ressuscite le troisième jour. »
Saying, The Son of man will undergo much and be put on one side by the rulers and the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and be put to death, and on the third day he will come back to life.
23 Il dit à tous: « Si quelqu'un veut venir après moi, qu'il renonce à lui-même, qu'il se charge de sa croix, et qu'il me suive.
And he said to them all, If any man has a desire to come after me, let him give up all, and take up his cross every day, and come after me.
24 Car quiconque veut sauver sa vie la perdra, mais quiconque perdra sa vie à cause de moi la sauvera.
For whoever has a desire to keep his life will have it taken from him, but whoever gives up his life because of me, will keep it.
25 En effet, que sert à un homme de gagner le monde entier, s'il se perd ou se renie lui-même?
For what profit will a man have if he gets all the world, but undergoes loss or destruction himself?
26 Car quiconque aura honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l'homme aura honte de lui, quand il viendra dans sa gloire, et dans la gloire du Père et des saints anges.
For if any man has a feeling of shame because of me or of my words, the Son of man will have shame because of him when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.
27 Mais je vous dis la vérité: parmi ceux qui se tiennent ici, il en est qui ne goûteront nullement à la mort avant d'avoir vu le Royaume de Dieu. »
But truly I say to you, Some of those who are here now will have no taste of death till they see the kingdom of God.
28 Environ huit jours après ces paroles, il prit avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et monta sur la montagne pour prier.
And about eight days after he had said these things, he took Peter and John and James with him and went up into the mountain for prayer.
29 Pendant qu'il priait, l'aspect de son visage se modifia, et ses vêtements devinrent blancs et éblouissants.
And while he was in prayer, his face was changed and his clothing became white and shining.
30 Et voici que deux hommes s'entretenaient avec lui, qui étaient Moïse et Élie,
And two men, Moses and Elijah, were talking with him;
31 lesquels apparurent dans la gloire et parlèrent de son départ, qu'il allait accomplir à Jérusalem.
Who were seen in glory and were talking of his death which was about to take place in Jerusalem.
32 Or Pierre et ceux qui étaient avec lui étaient accablés de sommeil; mais, lorsqu'ils furent pleinement réveillés, ils virent sa gloire et les deux hommes qui se tenaient avec lui.
Now Peter and those who were with him were overcome with sleep: but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men who were with him.
33 Comme ils se séparaient de lui, Pierre dit à Jésus: « Maître, il est bon pour nous d'être ici. Faisons trois tentes: une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Élie », sans savoir ce qu'il disait.
And when they were about to go away from him, Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah: having no knowledge of what he was saying.
34 Comme il disait cela, une nuée vint les couvrir, et ils eurent peur en entrant dans la nuée.
And while he said these things, the shade of a cloud came over them, and they were full of fear when they went into the cloud.
35 Une voix sortit de la nuée, disant: « Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé. Écoutez-le! »
And there was a voice from the cloud saying, This is my Son, the man of my selection; give ear to him.
36 Lorsque la voix se fit entendre, Jésus fut trouvé seul. Ils gardèrent le silence, et ne racontèrent à personne, en ce temps-là, ce qu'ils avaient vu.
And after the voice was gone they saw that Jesus was by himself. And they kept quiet, and said nothing at that time to anyone of the things which they had seen.
37 Le lendemain, lorsqu'ils descendirent de la montagne, une grande foule vint à sa rencontre.
And on the day after, when they came down from the mountain, a great band of people came to him.
38 Et voici qu'un homme de la foule s'écrie: « Maître, je te prie de regarder mon fils, car c'est mon unique enfant.
And a man from among them, crying out, said, Master, I make a request to you, give a thought to my son, for he is my only child:
39 Voici qu'un esprit le saisit, qu'il crie soudain, qu'il le convulse au point de le faire écumer, et qu'à peine sorti de lui, il le meurtrit gravement.
And see, a spirit takes him, and suddenly he gives a cry, twisted in pain and streaming at the lips, and when it goes away from him at last, he is marked as from blows.
40 J'ai supplié tes disciples de le chasser, et ils n'ont pas pu. »
And I made a request to your disciples to send it out of him, but they were not able to do it.
41 Jésus répondit: « Génération incrédule et perverse, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous et vous supporterai-je? Amène ton fils ici. »
And Jesus said, O generation without faith and false in heart, how long will I have to be with you and put up with you? let your son come here.
42 Comme il s'approchait encore, le démon le jeta à terre et le convulsa violemment. Mais Jésus menaça l'esprit impur, guérit le garçon et le rendit à son père.
And while he was coming, he was pushed violently down and twisted by the evil spirit. But Jesus gave sharp orders to the unclean spirit, and made the boy well, and gave him back to his father.
43 Ils étaient tous étonnés de la majesté de Dieu. Comme tous s'émerveillaient de toutes les choses que Jésus faisait, il dit à ses disciples:
And they were full of wonder at the great power of God. But while they were all wondering at all the things which he did, he said to his disciples,
44 « Laissez pénétrer ces paroles dans vos oreilles, car le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux mains des hommes. »
Let these words go deep into your ears, for the Son of man will be given up into the hands of men.
45 Mais ils ne comprirent pas cette parole. Elle leur était cachée, afin qu'ils ne la perçoivent pas, et ils avaient peur de l'interroger sur cette parole.
But this saying was not clear to them and its sense was kept secret from them so that they were not able to see it: and they had fear of questioning him about it.
46 Une dispute s'éleva parmi eux pour savoir lequel d'entre eux était le plus grand.
Now there was a discussion among them about which of them would be the greatest.
47 Jésus, connaissant le raisonnement de leurs cœurs, prit un petit enfant, le plaça à ses côtés,
But when Jesus saw the reasoning of their hearts, he took a small child and put him by his side,
48 et leur dit: « Quiconque reçoit ce petit enfant en mon nom me reçoit. Et celui qui me reçoit reçoit celui qui m'a envoyé. Car celui qui est le plus petit parmi vous tous, celui-là sera grand. »
And said to them, Whoever gives honour to this child in my name, gives honour to me: and whoever gives honour to me, gives honour to him who sent me: for whoever is least among you all, that man is great.
49 Jean répondit: « Maître, nous avons vu quelqu'un qui chasse les démons en ton nom, et nous le lui avons interdit, parce qu'il ne nous suit pas. »
And John, answering, said, Master, we saw a man driving out evil spirits in your name, and we did not let him do it, because he was not one of us.
50 Jésus lui dit: « Ne l'empêche pas, car celui qui n'est pas contre nous est pour nous. »
But Jesus said to him, Let him do it, for he who is not against you is for you.
51 Comme les jours où il devait être enlevé étaient proches, il se disposa à aller à Jérusalem
And it came about that when the days were near for him to be taken up, his face was turned to go to Jerusalem,
52 et envoya des messagers devant lui. Ils allèrent et entrèrent dans un village des Samaritains, afin de se préparer à le recevoir.
And he sent men before: and they came to a small town of Samaria to make ready for him.
53 Ils ne le reçurent pas, parce qu'il voyageait le visage tourné vers Jérusalem.
But they would not have him there, because he was clearly going to Jerusalem.
54 Voyant cela, ses disciples, Jacques et Jean, dirent: « Seigneur, veux-tu que nous ordonnions au feu de descendre du ciel et de les détruire, comme l'a fait Élie? »
And when his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, Lord, may we send fire from heaven and put an end to them?
55 Mais il se retourna et les réprimanda: « Vous ne savez pas de quel esprit vous êtes.
But turning round he said sharp words to them.
56 Car le Fils de l'homme n'est pas venu pour détruire la vie des hommes, mais pour les sauver. » Ils se rendirent dans un autre village.
And they went to another small town.
57 Comme ils continuaient leur chemin, un homme lui dit: « Je veux te suivre partout où tu iras, Seigneur. »
And when they were on the way, a certain man said to him, I will come after you wherever you go.
58 Jésus lui dit: « Les renards ont des trous et les oiseaux du ciel des nids, mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposer sa tête. »
And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have resting-places, but the Son of man has nowhere to put his head.
59 Il dit à un autre: « Suis-moi! » Mais il a dit: « Seigneur, permets-moi d'aller d'abord enterrer mon père. »
And he said to another, Come after me. But he said, Lord, let me first go and give the last honours to my father.
60 Mais Jésus lui dit: « Laisse les morts enterrer leurs propres morts, mais toi, va annoncer le Royaume de Dieu. »
But he said to him, Let the dead take care of their dead; it is for you to go and give news of the kingdom of God.
61 Un autre dit aussi: « Je veux te suivre, Seigneur, mais permets-moi d'abord de dire au revoir à ceux qui sont chez moi. »
And another man said, I will come with you, Lord, but first let me say a last good-day to those who are at my house.
62 Mais Jésus lui dit: « Personne, ayant mis la main à la charrue et regardant en arrière, n'est apte au Royaume de Dieu. »
But Jesus said, No man, having put his hand to the plough and looking back, is good enough for the kingdom of God.
